So I just got the starter set with my brother and I've read through the quick start rules and have a couple Qs. Please don't get angry if the answer is right there, I'm new so I don't fully understand everything yet. My 2 Qs were as follows: When a war jack takes damage, you roll a D6. If it takes damage again, do you roll a new D6 or continue the damage from your D6 last turn? It also says what happens if a charge fails, and says you can't premeasuring for shooting. It does not seem like there would ever be an instance of a failed charge if you can premeasure, unless it is the same for shooting. Is this the case? Thanks for the help.

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

Hey, its fine, we all start somewhere, and Privateer Press have an odd habit of adding important things into other paragraphs.

1. Yes, you roll separately for each instance of damage. The idea is that each shot will hit different things, etc.

2. No premeasuring. You get your control range measurement I believe, but everything else is evaluate.

These help.
1. When making any measurement, you cannot measure past the maximum range of the attack, ability, spell, or effect for which you are measuring.
2. You can measure the control area of your models at any time for any reason. Specifically, you can measure the distance from a model to any point within its control area at any time.

These are the most useful.

Hope that helps.

If the D6 you're talking about is to determine which column takes damage, you roll a new D6 for each attack that hits, So if I hit with attack #1 and roll a 3 for the column, I hit column 3. When I hit with another attack, I roll a D6 again and hit whatever column that is.

Also you can technically never premeasure anything, ever, under normal circumstances. But you CAN measure your caster's control area at any time, and use that to your advantage.

EDIT: too slow!

A note on measuring - there are a few things that you are allowed to measure for various reasons.

Firstly, as mentioned you can measure from your caster's base to any point in their Control Area - you can do this at any time (even half way through a move, or in your opponents turn), for any reason. You can even use this to estimate other models movements/ranges.

In the same way, you can also measure the Melee Range of any of your models at any time, for any reason. That's usually 1/2 an inch from the base of most models, or 2" for reach models.

Most other things you can only measure when they're relevant - for instance, you can only measure shooting after declaring the shot, only measure a units Command Range between the Leader and Troopers during their activation, and so on. I hope that helps

Just note:

You can measure your warcaster/warlocks control area at any time.

You can measure a models Melee range only during their activation. But you can do that any time during that activation.

You can also measure the Cmd distance between a model and its unit leader during that units activation.

Any measurement you make, you have to share that information with your opponent.

Where does it say that charges can't be premeasure? (I'm not doubting, just want to be able to cite it to my opponent)

Page 46 and 47 of Prime. You must declare your charge target before making the movement and you can only measure for movement during the movement part itself.

So keeping a warcaster near people you want to charge is a tactic because by measuring their area of control, you can measure the charge

Yes, that is a possible tactic.

But keeping your warcaster that close to the enemy might open him up to assassination, or prevent him from dominating an objective, so more often then not you won't have that luxury.

Alternatively, you can have a warcaster with a very large control radius (high FOCUS/FURY).

Just as a note, this is incorrect. As I mentioned, melee range of your models can be measured at any time you wish, in or out of activation. P50 of Prime, and infernal confirmation http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?91025-Measuring-Melee-range-on-non-casual-games

It doesn't come up that much, but it's a useful thing to know, especially with reach infantry
