Staring up a Black Legion army without using the supplement since I have heard bad things about it. Basically wanting to run Abaddon and thats the main reason behind it. I tend to try to stay close to the lore when I build an army, so I will be sticking with regular CSM rather than cult marines. My main opponent plays Grey Knights, and he has a large collectio so he mixes it up each time. Typically he uses a lot of Paladins and the teleporting guys. PLease let me know what you think of this list and how to tweak it against a grey knight army.

Abaddon the Despoiler

Fabius Bile

20 Chaos Space Marines, Bolt Pistol & CCW, Mark of Khorne, Icon of Wrath, x2 Flamers, and Veterans of the long war. Aspiring champion has a power axe.

35 Chaos cultists with 3 Flamers.

Heldrake with Baleflamer (or do I need that Hades Autocannon?).

5 Havocs with 4 Autocannons.

Aegis Defense Line with Quadgun.

The idea is that the Havocs bunker down behind the Aegis and fire their high strength shots down the field. Each HQ joins a blob of marines and runs at the enemy. I am thinking that the enhanced warriors should be the Khorne guys as I think that makes them strength 6 on the charge? The cultists try to sit on an objective and use flamers to make it unappealing to charge them. The Heldrake should be able to do its thing and just roast marines. I have seen them be very effective in the youtube videos I have wtached. I know that my anti-tank is poor, but I know he uses the dreadknight or walker thingy more so than landraiders and tanks. Is this list viable at all?

I would split the cultists into 2 units of 15.

OK, so break up the cultists in what I assuming is the option of grabbing another objective? I was just reading over another chaos army list and this was the topic of conversation. So 15 is survivable enough on the table top to hold objectives, and having two of them will offer me more from a tactical standpoint? Any other advice?

Use a Sorceror instead of Fabius Bile... Add some survivability to your marines as they foot slog it.

I agree, you should probably replace Fabius Bile with a Sorcerer. If then you gave him biomancy he could buff the marines that are foot slogging. Increase their chances of survival. If given Malific, although risky, you could summon daemons to act as decoys, or even part of your army.

There's no turning back... Triumph or oblivion.

If I were going to run abbadon here is what I would do. Please note this is my opinion and probably not that of the greater dakka community...

1st - Abbadon in a land raider with a "boon brother". What is a boon brother? A mastery level 3 sorcerer with tzeench mark and spell familiar. The idea is he uses his power to bestow a boon every single turn to abbadon(be can get more if he starts winning challenges). He should also go for santic deamon powers to try to buff his squads +1 invulnerable.

2nd - pick a unit to go in the land raider to go with these two guys. I personally like the idea of mutilators although I'm sure I'll be skewered online for saying so. I also like chaos terminators as a second choice.

3rd - take Be'lakor as a deamon ally. This guy is just a beast plain and simple, but most importantly he will make you land raider invisible while giving Be'lakor a huge line of sight blocker to hide behind.

With all that, maybe round out with some spawn to try to cause some fear tests or bikes as a fast unit to mop up other smaller threats that don't justify a charge from Be'lakor or your Death Star.

And obviously if you can squeeze in a hell turkey that never hurts.

Abbadon cannot become spawn or deamon prince so I say a use the boon table.

Split the Cultist, 15 in a squad. Make a sqaud of CSM Chosen, still troops and more weapons. Take some transports, to get across faster. MORE DAKKA!
