I hear that Tau haters mostly hate because of the Riptide (discussed in the other thread) or Broadsides (discussed here).

This thread is about collecting data to see just how many are used and how they are equipped.

Please vote and then post your build(s) from your last game.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I usually use one unit of three Broadsides, each armed with HYMP and no other upgrades.

I use a single 3 man team of Broadsides all equipped with HRRs and the team leader with a target lock so he can engage a 2nd target.

They usually sit back and blast anything 60" away that resembles a vehicle or monstrous creature.

I give them tl-plasma rifles so they can take shots at deepstriking terminators who otherwise a tau gunline doesnt have a counter to except weight of fire

2 squads of 2 Broadsides armed with HRR and either tl-plasmas or skyfire upgrade.
Mainly because I like the look of HRR.

of course, the reason I use 3 was because I had 2 original old xv88s but then found the new kit so awesome that I had to buy it. Makes for a good looking team leader!

One team of three with HRR (I'm too cheap to buy the new models). Also, we allow them to take sub-munitions for 5 pts. (S6, small blast).

It never ends well

Meh. I'm not scared of Riptides. Beware the sweeping advance Tau players!

0. Then again I freely admit that I don't play Tau like the rest of the world plays Tau...

Here's my last list I used (1250 pt tournament)

Spoiler:

ethereal

2x battlesuits, ewo, 2x missile pod
1x battlesuit, ewo, 2x fusion blaster
1x battlesuit, ewo, 2x fusion blaster

11x fire warrior, devilfish, dpods
12x fire warrior, devilfish, dpods

Barricuda, 2x seeker missile, dpod
4x pathfinders
4x pathfinders

Hammerhead, longstrike, railgun with subs, dpod, sensor spines
Sky Ray, dpod, blacksun filter
It was only the lack of availability that stopped me from using Tetras instead of Pathfinders too.

No interest in using Broadsides or the Riptide. Broadsides are way too slow now the gyros are gone and the Riptide...well... I hate having models around that can't do well without support. I prefer to have good models that get better with support, rather than ok models that get amazing with support (the amount of markerlights a riptide needs to do anything other than be a brick is kinda absurd).

I might be the only Tau player I know that cheers a little when people use their entire army to kill my pathfinders turn 1-2, because that means they aren't shooting the models that can actually do damage.

Oh BROADSIDES! Whoops. I was tired last night. Very effective unit. I don't play Tau, but broadsides are always my first target when facing them. You'd better bring more because 1 unit is dead on my first turn.

I used to only bring one unit of three but after getting a nice trade deal with a friend I've got two full units and I've been able to bring them in the FSC. I have never run the HRR because I built mine in 6th when vehicles were more likely to explode but the sheer amount of fire power these units put out with Tank Hunters on top of that ensures that most light vehicles do not see my end of the board. I also like to kit them out with a couple Early Warning Overrides and a Target lock so that I can pick and choose how to deal with enemy reserves without losing out too much.
48 Missiles a turn half of which ignore cover while the other half have great strength is surely a scary concept for even the most adept players I believe. However this puts a rather large target on the unit. These things are priority targets for any high str, low ap, large blast type attacks and usually end up getting eaten by these which is why I also like to include some drones in the unit - purely to help separate the unit to avoid mass casualties from those attacks.

Also - I usually roll on Strategic Traits hoping for The Conqueror of Cities WL trait - this one beautifully synergizes with Farsight Enclaves as our jump suits no longer have to worry about DT and they recieve a 3+ cover in ruins (where applicable.) Absolutely brilliant for Tau/FE.

When I run them, I run a squad of 2 with HRR just cause the HRR is cool lol. I started playing 40k years ago an my first comment to a GW employee about why I want tau as my first army was, I just want to sit back and blast stuff with railguns lol. In smaller games I also run a single broadside, or two, or even two single broadsides in small games like 750 points.

I stopped using broadsides because I feelt they where too powerfull. My unit of 3 Missile Broadsides with Missile Drones would exterminate 1 enemy unit per turn and made my opponents very frustrated. So I stopped using them as it wasent fun for either one of us. Though, I have since then kind of stopped playing Tau compleately..

I never understood why people bother with missile drones. The only thing they are good at is when they are guided by friendly markerlights, but in all other cases their bS2 just doesnt cut it, IMO,.

I run two 3 man units of broadsides with High Yield Missile pods with Smart Missile Systems in the Fire base cadre formation. Riptides are hated but the broadsides bring the pain. I love my tank hunter, PE SM guys.
