Title.

A few days ago, I was playing against Tau with IG allies with my nids.
Thanks to the stupid, BS FMC rules, both my Flyrants were deleted first turn by Executioner and Fire Warrior shots.
I moved up, killed 3 vets, 4 Wyrdvane Psykers, and 2 Fire Warriors.
Turn 2, Wyrdvanes cast enfeeble on Tervigon, instagibbed by Hammerhead railgun. A Battlesuit Star dropped down and cooked my Venomthrope and Zoanthrope. I conceded turn 2 because my Synapse was dead. Most boring game I ever played. The opponent never moved anything except to get the FW teams to camp a building.
I spent most of the game half-comatose. I only reacted to remove my models from the board when shooting started.

I hate 7th edition.
Unbound is stupid. Allies are stupid. FMCs starting the game in Gliding mode is bad. Not being able to charge from Outflank or Deep Strike is bad. Overwatch is bad. STR10 AP1 with a range greater than 18" is broken.

Am I naive for not expecting this to turn into a 40k sucks whinefest?

My worst 40k moment was just a train of awful luck in mid-6th ed in a doubles game which my friend and I have dubbed "the game which never happened" (of course it's not a very apt name because we bring it up whenever people complain about their luck). Anyway, my friend and I went into GW to get in a 2v2 game (we had about 1000-1500pts each). Unfortunately only one person was willing to play, so he wrote up a quick list using 5th ed Guard. This created our first problem - my friend and I were using 2 separate, unfocused FOCs, whereas he was able to use a single FOC to minimize troop and HQ taxes. On top of that, he ran a bunch of plasma Russes, Vendettas and Basilisks (back when they were still worth consideration).

Anyway, I was running a large unit of Terminators with my Wolf Lord and got the outflank trait, so I decided to use that to put pressure their backfield and hopefully take out the Basilisks. I had also taken some Wolf Scouts for this exact purpose. Unfortunately, from turn 1, everything that could go wrong did. Marines were failing saves like they were Termagaunts (and they failed almost every pinning and morale check in the process), my friend and I couldn't hit a single thing, we'd pour all of our heavy weapons fire into the Russes but couldn't even glance them, etc. To make matters worse, our opponent was getting above-average luck so he was just exacerbating our own miserable luck. And on top of all that, I failed reserve rolls for my Warlord twice, and when he finally came in the unit killed absolutely nothing. During my opponent's turn, they fired on us with Guardsmen, and I rolled an obscene number of 1s. Triple ones kill my Warlord just like that, and the other Termies get killed in short order as well.

Literally, the only bit of luck I had all game was that my Rune Priest was caught in the open in front of a plasma Russ and took 3 wounds. I said " it, I'm going to ground", and then proceeded to roll 3 6's for my cover saves. Our opponent was dumbfounded, so it was a bit of a moral victory. Of course, he died horribly next turn, but he kept us from getting tabled - all the fire that went into him kept my friends' company commander from getting shot, leaving him as the lone survivor (fun fact: that company commander has NEVER been killed, ever).

So yeah... that game was unspeakably awful. I curse the Dice Gods for it to this day (and in spite, worship the Dice Daemons instead).

The dark behind the eyes.

The worst one I can remember offhand was my first game with DE in 5th, against a mechanised GK list.

By about turn 2, I'd lost virtually all my transports and most of my anti-vehicle weapons. I think I'd managed to inflict a single hull point on a psyfulman dreadnought.

By turn 3, every transport I owned was obliterated - along with most of their contents. My only remaining anti-vehicle weapons were blasters in squads of trueborn - who would have to spend a turn footslogging across no-man's land before they could get in range. With my opponent's transports still intact, I called it there.

One of my worst moments was my very first few 40k games.

Me and my buddy coming from Fantasy decided to start playing 40k and shared a 3d edition startbox.
I got 20 dark eldar warriors with 18x (none poison) splinter rifles and 2x (assault 4 bolters) slinter cannons.
He had 10x marines (bolters, flamer, missile launcher) and a landspeeder with a heavy bolter.

It didnt really matter what I did, I lost every game. And in the end I decided to play Chaos Space Marines instead.

Another one for me - trying to take down a damn stormwolf.

3 times now, I've been in a 2v2 and we've both fired every available weapon at the thing on the turn it arrived. Meltaguns, plasmaguns with Ignores Cover, Multilasers, Dark lances, Various guns on a Chaos Flier (can't remember their names), Blasters, Lascannons, Devourers with Brainleech Worms, etc. etc. In those 3 games, I think the most we managed was a glancing hit.

The damn thing just won't die.

Since 7th ed started, my Overlord on his pimp mobile has only died in one game, in which he stood up 4 times later on, and was alive at the end of the game. However, very recently, I conceded turn 2 after all my vehicles save fliers were dead, and the end of turn 1 my Overlord failed 2/3 invuln saves against melta, and failed 2/3 2+ saves against punching Stealth suits in CC. Only time he has died and stayed dead....

You should consider cross-referencing pg 68 with pg 135.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

For me, my worst 40K 'moment' has been the whole time since I started picking up Space Marine models (hear me out - this is probably not what you think it's going to be).

I just started back around March, couple months before 7th dropped. In that time, I have completed assembling/painting exactly ONE model. Reason: Between my parents going out of town (vacations, helping my sister renovate/sell her house, help her move to Montana) - and me ending up critter-sitting their three cats, and where do said cats stay? In my basement, where my modeling station is - met time out of town myself, work, my son, and any number of other free-time killers, there's either no time or no good environment to paint/assemble in!

Damn you GW for sucking me in right when my life decides I can least prepare for gaming!

My worst moment was realizing that Nurgle Damon princes can Break dance jink on the ground for a 2+ cover save at all times and fun times necron CCB shenanigans in a friendly game.

Though the later got canceled out by my best moment when 2 of my lemons survived a CCB charge, then i proceeded to double ram St10 and blew it up.

You can start it in reserves and either have it enter in Swooping or Gliding mode, or if you Deep Strike it in, it arrives in Swooping Mode.

Ideally, you want to Block Line of Sight to it first turn and then have it Swoop up to cause damage.

And that, friends, is why you carry your models in an opague box and never show your opponent your list.

My worst 40k moment was the day I built my first Sisters of Battle Exorcist.

See, when I play video games, I enjoy progression. I enjoy seeing my characters in MMORPGs go from crappy leveling gear to the best gear I can get my hands on. I enjoy seeing those experience point bars fill up and up. I'm even willing to forego the use of equipment which would make my character more powerful and level up faster, purely so that I can upgrade the less-powerful gear in those equipment slots, because having a third of all the equipment I acquire be totally useless because I already have the best I can get is a real de-motivator for me. (i.e. I choose to level slower if it means I can enjoy more gear progression as I go along)

And I guess it carried over to tabletop miniatures wargaming, because when I built that Exorcist and thought to myself, "Alright, got my Exorcist, what's next?" I couldn't come up with any ideas for my next acquisition. I had everything I would ever want to use in a game. I had a variety of special and heavy weapons, a variety of Superiors and special models like Hospitallers, a Dialogus, some Simulacrum-bearers. I had Seraphim, I had Repentia, I had Penitent Engines, a few Immolator chassis that could convert between Rhinos and Immolators with a simple turret swap, a pair of Canonesses with different equipment. I had a Battle Conclave, a Priest, Jacobus, Celestine and a large number of Bolter-equipped Sisters.

There was nothing left to get, that would fill a hole. All that was left was possibly fleshing it out, with multiples or variants of what I already had, very little of which I would ever use.

And that's the day that my interest in Warhammer 40k truly died. It died then and there three years ago, because there was nothing meaningful left to acquire.

Since then, my hobbying has revolved largely around special projects, rather than building an army. I got some Skinks and some Guardsmen to make some scaley (as in furry, but with scales) IG models to mix in with my normal Cadians. I built some character models of my and my Internet friends' roleplaying characters. I made a squad of Scout Bikers with Bretonnian lances to make bike jousters. I swapped out my Assault Marines' plasma pistols with flamers from the Centurion kit (they're shorter-barreled than normal flamers, which seems appropriate for assault troops, and they fit just fine on normal bolter arms) I got some Centurions when they came out, some Sternguard and a couple of Land Speeders too. But it just wasn't the same.

My gaming's been largely non-existent. Whereas I was playing a game every week before I got that Exorcist, afterwards it rapidly dropped off and nowadays I can't even remember when the last time I played a game was.
