Hello all,

I have decided to, instead of buying another normal Rip Tide, to go with a forge world model. I really like the Y'Vahra model, the style is just down right awesome. In another recent post I was told that it kicks major butt. But (see what I did there?) the R'Varna was not discussed. I like the R'Varna's long range weapons - but in ascetics the Y'Vahra still is ahead in my mind. For table top games, however; which of the two would you recommend?

Also I am still confused about whether or not Forge World is allowed in FLGs. Some sites say yes, some say nay. Can anyone confirm?

Y'vahra is better. The R'varna is decent against hordes and light vehicles when it gets markerlight support, but so is the rest of your army. The Y'vahra is pretty good against everything. Of course, the Y'vahra has some drawbacks with fewer wounds and very short range, but you can learn to use it in very devastating ways.

You'll have to ask the staff at your FLGS. As incredible as it may sound, what some dude said on Dakka carries very little weight in the real world, with its trees, weather, women, personal interactions and whatnot.

Be very cautious of buying the newest FW riptide. The rules for it are still marked experimental, and likely to change when the final version comes out, just like it did for the other riptide.

Certainly, buy it if you think it looks cool, but don't buy it because of the rules as those are bound to change.

Not buying for the rules entirely, I think that the model is stellar. What are the odds of losing its leap/ability to go to reserves? Because I think that is sick.

This is a little off topic but Ive been toying around with making a Giant Stompy Robot list and was wondering if any of the FW Riptide suits can be an HQ choice? This seems a thread rife with Riptide variant knowledge.

So far the only source of Stompy Robot HQ I find is the Wraithseer and Imperial Knight.

There are no FW variants, however; O'Vesa from FSE is a HQ Character At least that is my understanding but I am known to make mistakes from time to time. In my next game against I am going to try and make him my HQ and have him role for WS 5

O'vesa is technically HQ, but practically slotless as he is part of farsight's bodyguards.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

That was my first thought. The Y'Vahra is cool and powerful right now, but it may not always be. The codex Riptide has a stable ruleset, and is also a very powerful model.

I will say, though, the Y'Vahra is so much more interesting to play with than the other Riptide variants. It's mechanisms promote risk/reward gameplay much more than the others (which encourage very conservative play).

But its so pretty..... What are the chances it will become crap when it looks that awesome? Give it to me out of 10.

Eh, I dunno... maybe a 25% chance it will be over-nerfed? It will probably still be fine (the R'Varna got nerfed, but it's still quite strong).

Its all really a question of what you want the riptide to do.

"Up close and personal annialation" is the Y'Vahra thing, "Ranged bombardment" is the R'Varna thing and "Tactical shooting" is the base riptide thing.

I use both, they compliment each other well with the R'varna able to decimate hoards, tough units like bikes, stack wounds on MC's and take out light tanks from the back field while the Y'Varah can walk over any and all heavy armor with its Ion discharge cannon and completely destroy all units with its double shot AP2 flamer. In more competitive games I tend to use the Y'Varah with Stims and the R'Varna naked together with 2 other Riptides, one with HBC,EWO and VT and the other with Ion and EWO (secondary weapons to taste) That way you have pretty much all the options you need for an very well rounded TAC army.

That cant of been cheap! I hate the conversion rates for canadian i to pounds :( ideally id like to have 3 of each riptide model so i could be "that guy." Sadly goig to have to collect them slowly. Does your Y'Varha survive until the end of a match or is it down by turn 3?
