I'm considering getting into Warmachine/Hordes. I'm not 100% sure if I'm gonna stick to 40k or try out Hordes. I really like the monsters/creature armies that Hordes has (not as much a fan of Warmachine models).

Anyways, I found someone who has these models for sell secondhand. Wondering what would price range would be considered a steal vs fair deal/average secondhand pricing? IF I can get a really good deal/steal vs Standard retail (i.e. $100 or less is Steal? 125-150 is average second hand, 200 is retail?)

If I can get an idea of what's a super good deal, I might just pick up them and just try out Trollbloods..

MSRP for that lot is about $300ish but it's not what I'd call a well-organized starting force; if you can get that lot for under $200 it's a solid deal, but you'd have to expect to need to buy some extra models to make it work right.

So, if I bought them @ $85-125, we'll say, that would be a steal (i.e. If my wife got mad, or I decided I wasn't going to play Hordes/Trolls, I could easily resell them for the same value and perhaps even make a profit).

i'm only asking because if it's a steal and I could turn around and sell it, I think I'm going to get it. If not, I might hold off until I know I want to play this army/game.

You can usually sell secondhand models for 50% retail if they are complete, undamaged, and not misassembled plastic or resin.

I was bidding on those items in an Ebay auction. All assembled, but unpainted. I was winning with a bid of $115 over $103 until the last 2 min, then immediately before it ended got outbid and it went for 117.50. REALLY wish I had bid higher, like probably $130 at least. Damn, I'm still kinda pissed.

Still debating how much I should offer 300 since feels like a hefty price if I'm not 100% sure how much I'm gonna like this game, but after letting the last deal slip through my fingers, I really don't want to miss another.
So what price range would be "once in a blue moon, too good to pass up" vs the average "solid deal, but not exceptional?"

MSRP on that one is closer to $1,000, actually. $300 is highway robbery.

If you're really interested in buying used, head over to the dakka swap shop or ther Privateer press section of batertown and post something along the lines of "I'm looking to buy a starter Trollblood army and am willing to pay about 50% of retail." Maybe add something like "I'm just looking for the basics right now so I'm not really looking for anything crazy like a Calandra Theme force with nothing but light warbeasts."

Wheel and deal a bit and you can probably get free shipping and a few freebee models thrown in as well.

I wouldn't drop 300 on a game you don't know if you like. It doesn't matter how good the deal is.
