It gets dark so early theres no natural light left to paint in.
Its too cold outside to spray coat models.
Its hard to paint with icey cold fingers.
No ones up for a game unless your house is nicely toasty (although the beer fridge must still be cold).
To get good photos you have to use lamps etc, which never work as well.
In really bad weather, shipping gets delayed and its impossible to make it to the flgs.
Every army gets grumpy except the Space Wolves.

Stupid winter months.....

You might want to turn the heat on if your fingers are too cold to paint.

Well in Canada, its winter 10 months of the year, with the other two being construction season. I have to paint my models while walking up hills, in two feet of snow. My sled dog team sometimes has to sleep inside my igloo it gets so cold. It gets so cold in fact that you can't use paint in the winter; we have to scrounge for coloured rocks, grind them into a paste and rub them on using our mittens.

Its so cold in fact, that my Molson Canadian almost taste good!

Dewd, as someone who lives a few miles north of you: that's how it always is.

(And lamps do work better because they're there when you nee... they're just there.)

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

What madness is this, winter is the busiest time for me with wargaming, perfect time of the year for staying in and rolling some dice.

Not that I'm painting enough anyway, even with perfect weather.

As far to the east you can get without being in Canada.

You could come over the pond and shovel the 12" of snow we got night before last. It's a balmy 25 F out and the wind is whipping.

I'd rather be inside painting and playing games.

That's what I think! You have a far more convenient excuse for not going outside and doing other things

Winter sucks in Germany anyway.
I have a daylight lamp that allows me to paint at any daytime.

Winter Is bad for gaming: its ski season, bitches!!!

Off to the slopes tomorrow, actually. Then painting a GUO as a tournament prize for my friend's local tournament.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

How does it influence your war gaming?

Winter removes the outdoor excuses for going to the beach or something that "might" trump gaming (gasp!).

It is also easier to have eyes on our models than be distracted by underdressed people in summer.

Basements suck in general all seasons (my area is there) so lighting it to tanning booth levels is always good practice for eyestrain free painting.

Keeping paint and models indoors, sprint into the garage / lean-to / igloo, spray, wait 10-15 min and drag all the stuff back inside: done.

Many other hobbies (darn buddies with motorbikes!) are grounded during the winter months so it is easier to grab friends to play.

A directed space heater and fingerless gloves (or latex / butyl gloves) may assist in the cold hands issue.

The yule-log video played on a tablet may give a psychological warming element to your workspace:
Spoiler:

There, no excuses!
It does not suck!
You just have more models than you can conceivably get done in your lifetime!
Winter has forced you to sit at home and stare at all that hobby stuff you were going to get around to doing.
Seize the moment! This is an opportunity!

The key to winter hobbying is that you need your stuff primed and ready to go before winter hits. Then, just curl up under a high-powered lamp and paint all winter long.

Sadly I have so little light once im back from College there is so little light left I can only paint two nights of the week.

Still, Its not all bad - more excuses to play - if any where needed

Dark winter nights are when I get most of my painting done. It's down time on the farm after harvest and before spent lambing madness starts. Get your work done during the day and get in beside a roaring fire at night! Will someone buy that man a good bulb and a few sticks for the fire!!??

I'm loving summer at the moment. Nice and warm but plenty of thunderstorms. I can step outside into ankle deep water while still being perfectly comfortable in shorts

The dry days where you just sweat your ass off a less fun though.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I don't mind it too much. I think its the perfect time of year to stay indoors and get some gaming in. But I agree about the lack of natural light and optimal priming weather being a drag. Also, you get to look forward to getting a new kit or two during the holidays!

All this talk of not being able to prime, am I doing myself in by airbrushing primer in the office then?

Winter?

I have heard of this....winter.

All we get here are occasional 'cold' fronts, but they don't actually get that cold and they don't last more than a few days.

This might be a shot in the dark, but as a fellow Irishman, I think Ratius may have a mild form of Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Ireland is a VERY bleak country, especially around this time of year. The entire sky is perpetually overcast, like a giant white sheet that prevents almost any sunlight from reaching us.

Drink a load of orange juice and eat a load of tuna, then get back to me. It actually lifted my mood a bit!

Are you guys kidding? I love painting and gaming in the winter. The house my wife and I have just bought has a summer house tucked away at the end of the garden. It's insulated and double glazed, it's on the mains and it's plenty big enough for a couple of 4x4 gaming tables, a desk or workbench to work on and my woofer keeps me company, curled up under my chair...

Throw in a beer fridge stocked with real ale and some vino, a couple of massive bean bags and an internet ready TV, and I can beaver away for hours!
