Hello!
I was interested in purchasing the Open Fire box set, but it looks like it is no longer in distribution. Nothing at official site, Warweb, Warstore, amazon, etc.. I looked around for some kind of official announcement but could not find one. I am still interested in picking up a copy, does anyone know what the deal is? I am assuming that it is being discontinued, but I was surprised to not be able to find any news about it.

I have the open fire set if you'd like it. We could work out a deal I'm sure. My group never really got into it.

Maybe they're updating the plastic tanks in the box.

According to this page: http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3543 Open Fire! is currently out of stock, likely awaiting updated models as George suggests.

It's unlikely to have been completely discontinued, so if you're able to wait then you can probably grab some newer sculpts; otherwise, trying Ebay or some of the more obscure online retailers is your best bet.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yeah, it's one of their highest demand products. I don't see them killing it off without a replacement immediately available.

The tank models in Open Fire absolutely suck, so hopefully they're updating it with the new models (I don't think it's a coincidence that both the StuG and Sherman V were recently released as plastic boxed sets).

Yep my guess is that we will see a new version of Open Fire released sometime in the next few months. Not a brand new edition or anything but one with the newer and better plastic tanks replacing the abominations found in the first release.

I have two of the open fire tanks I picked up on ebay and I personally avoided the open fire box after seeing how badly they went together. If they are improving the contents however I would reconsider.

Hopefully they finish sculpting the airborne as well. IIRC, the soldier with the bazooka and one of the sergeants have large sections that didn't get cut properly into the mould.

If they re-packed it with the new kits, I might actually buy another copy...

While it should surprise me that this is out of stock just before Christmas it doesn't. BF's stock department couldn't eat a bacon sandwich without fething it up. It did get me to thinking that perhaps it has been quietly discontinued in order to relaunch it with another period, maybe a much needed relaunch for mid war.

Unfortunately, I suspect Mid-War isn't quite ready for relaunch yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if they shifted away from the Market-Garden for a new box.

Actually Open Fire has been out of stock for several months now, but I agree that Christmastime is when you want your gateway products available.

Absolutely. It was my intention to speculate that next summer would be the time it will be relaunched.

I hope theyre going to change the american paratroopers into brits.doubt it but My friend wants a BRITISH force not allied, and it would be far easier to convince him to split the box if he actually wanted what he got.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of that either personally they should either change the para's for brits or change the fireflys for more standard shermans. Hopefully in future started boxes they have one side vs the other, Germans vs British, Italians vs Russians, Americans vs Japanese. Doesn't really matter which just something that gives value to two people who want two opposing nations.

also wanted a british force which the Shermans and Fireflys would have been great for but I had no need for American Paratroopers. I decided to go down the PSC route for the basis of my force in the end. Got 5 shermans, 5 Cromwells and an Infantry box for about £50 with ebay pricing. Sure its less total stuff than Open fire but I didn't want the paratroopers I prefer PSC's tanks and I didn't want the Germans either so it was worth the cost for me.

If you can split the box with someone (And find a place still selling it) its a good way to get the shermans though (fit issues asside) and an even better deal for the Germans.
