Hello,

So I have a mix of stuff here after losing quite a few games, which is expected as a new player, but it is nice to win sometimes as well. After a fun 1K T&T last week I was V impressed with the power of hero walls (going on to win the game partly due to its survivability).

Tonight (GMT) I will play the following based around the concept of semi-optimised Hero wall KotR - flank support errants with dispel damsel - distraction/defence bowman +Men at Arms and treb - and YOLO/chaff kill Pegasusususes:

+ Lords (234pts) +

Bretonnian Lord (234pts) [Barded Bretonnian Warhorse, Knights Vow, Shield]
Magic Items and Virtues [AB - Gromril Great Helm, BRB - Potion of Foolhardiness, BRB - Sword of Swift Slaying, Virtue of Heroism (1st)]

+ Heroes (375pts) +

Damsel of the Lady (140pts) [Bretonnian Warhorse, Lore of Beasts, Wizard Level 2]
Magic Items [BRB - Dispel Scroll]

Paladin (111pts) [Barded Bretonnian Warhorse, Knights Vow, Shield]
Magic Items and Virtues [BRB - Dawnstone, BRB - Enchanted Shield]

Paladin (Army Battle Standard Bearer) (124pts) [Barded Bretonnian Warhorse, Knights Vow]
Magic Items [AB - Armour of Agilulf, BRB - Luckstone, BRB - Sword of Might]

+ Core (636pts) +

Knights Errant (241pts) [Champion, 11x Knight Errant, Musician, Standard Bearer]

Knights of the Realm (240pts) [Champion, 9x Knight of the Realm, Musician, Standard Bearer]

Men-at-arms (95pts) [19x Man-at-arms, Pole-arm]

Peasant Bowmen (60pts) [10x Peasant Bowman]

+ Rare (90pts) +

Field Trebuchet (90pts) [Peasant, Peasant, Peasant]

+ Special (165pts) +

Pegasus Knights (165pts) [Champion, 3x Pegasus Knight]

Before any one says anything another treb is on its way (dear god are they expensive these days) though any other feed back would be more than welcome - such as - are peasants a waste of time compared with more cavalry? Hero load out ok? Magic defence good enough at this level? I have paid no attention to banners is this an issue?

I'll report back on I fair v Lizardmen

Peace.

Well in the end this turned into a T&T game as my opponent couldn't make it. Tactically I was being silly (as it was T&T) and charging everything and as a result ended up in the middle (the other two players I dont think shot at each other or had a close combat against each other for the duration).

Non-the-less - the hero wall bus was just beastly (smashing through some big trolls and then trying to fight down 36 or so wysan S4 T5 gors. I think I won nearly every combat (and this went on for like 4 turns) as I was still +1 rerolling almost everything on my slightly tougher T4 heroes.

Only after a further 2 turns of flank ogres? (they were big) did things crumble. Doom flyers had made the other bus and the M at A panic about in the backfield for most of the game. The M & A were a bit of a silly choice as I wasn’t doing them properly. My 3 pegs roamed about kicking in the heads of wolf riders, a big chariot and some tiny goblin skirmish archers before getting killed by a goblin flappy machine.

I did by no means win but I’m eager for a next game –in general enjoyed my good leadership and survivability. Future move will be less peasants more ‘another treb’

I don't think 20 Men-At-Arms are going to do much. More Bowmen? Or Yeomen?

Seems pretty solid. Nothing to crazy or new going on in there, but I've got a suggestion or two:

- Can you get the Errantry Banner on those Knights Errant?

- How about the Wyrmlance? If possible, on a model that'll swing before as many of the others as possible. I've seen a Paladin do it with a Potion of Speed (since the Lord can use his mundane lance in the 1st round, you'll still go before him...if I'm remembering that correctly), or just giving it to the Lord.

- more characters? I'm looking at Wizards, specifically. Getting a Prophetess in there would do wonders; bubble Savage Beasts, anyone? Also, the Silver Mirror.
With Brets, I feel like they can go small and elite with pretty substantial success, compared to other armies. Or, maybe it's that they sort of have to. A lot of their stuff is overpriced, and all of it's outdated, so getting as much power into as small an area as possible is a good idea, regardless of how much more you're paying for it.

*Yes – even with the 50+ with Quennels Damsel Im less than fully wowed by men at arms – maybe some people can get the rank n flank to work – but I cannot. Smal 10 men bowman tend to kill their points in ½ the fights and be an ok distraction in the other ½ - but I have allocated their points space for mo treb.
** I could get the E Banner– the merits of the same I suppose are situational but it seems like a solid addition

*** I’m not sure I am desperate to have a super quick strike wymlancer – I mean Id rather give that to my 1+ might sword guy or a 1+ attack sword guy – the real value hear I feel may be in a Peg Palladin wym fire jokster (I heard a rumour about how this was used in a recent tournament as a mini dragon – luckstone or similar to compensate for cannons)

****Yes well At 1.5 points level I find myself un-eager to include both Prophetess and Hero Wall – Savage Beasts Bubble is good but a gamble while hero wall is a safer bet which adds survivability and higher leadership (I dislike how pointy hat women don’t have LD 9). I actually used to run around with a proph instead throwing asteroids at people – but there are just a lot of armies out there better at magic than brets and I would not enjoy that every 4th game or so my knight bus would get sucked into a vortex.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment!

(will run similar again thursday and report back)

If you dropped the men at arms you could get another trebuchet, might as well take advantage of the stuff that we benefits brets from having a really old army book. Trebuchets are definately that.

Men-at-Arms are good with Wildform.

The Prophetess wouldn't be replacing the Hero Wall, she could just be in addition to it.
And her 4+ to Dispel and such makes her a further defense.
But yeah, it's not essential, especially at this level.

Yeah I might throw in a prophetess and get rid of the peasants - alturnativly I might try and squeeze in an extra cheeky 5 man errant team as flank protection for my 2 main busses for an almost 0 backfeild approach.
