Hey guys,

After 22 years of being into 40k and Warhammer we are finally getting a dedicated GW store in our town. Although I will only use the store for FW items and direct orders does anyone know if GW do open day events? Its due to open on the 13th so would be interesting to pop in if they are likley to have anything on.

How is the density of GW shops in UK?
Here in Germany we have about one shop in each larger city but not at the country side.

Guess this could mean the end for krackers , hope they can survive off the non gw stuff , I know a lot of people think there is gw's everywhere in the uk but this is the first in somerset and given our smaller island state and higher pop density we don't travel as far to shop espically in the south. Gw's are only in cities and larger towns

Is this another one opened up here a successful LGS then?

GW's are pretty dense over here - there's one in pretty much any size of city (Aberdeen, York, etc) and larger towns that aren't very close to cities (Ayr). Most large shopping centres will have had one at some point too.

As for events; they'll have some sort of launch event on, you might even be able to get a free badge, but it'll likely just be some organised games and baloons. They haven't done store opening deals in years.

Do Krackers sell GW nowadays then? It's probably 15 years since I set foot in the Taunton one (still down that narrow path just off the main shopping area?) but I always remember the, doing CCGs, comics and movie collectibles more than GW.

Last time I went was in a quest for SW CCG singles because the local Decipher sanctioned tourneys were held in Taunton and they had a good community up there.

I have been a customer of Tony's for 22 years, and will continue to do so I plan on only using GW for FW deliveries and the stuff Krackers can't get.

I have noticed over the last few months he has really been increasing bolt action and flames of war stock and is also getting warmachine in too.

I think he could probably get by on the amount of Xwing stuff I buy lol.

For the guys who are not aware, this GW will be the first in our county, at the moment the only two stores near by are over an hour away from taunton.

What I do hope is GW try and work with the gaming clubs in town.

Good luck to the local FLGS. I've worked in an Independent with a local GW in the same town and it wasn't pretty, to the point where the store owner ended up stopping selling.

In all honestly, if GW only comprises 15% of their sales then hopefully they will have enough to fall back on. Otherwise they need to be prepared for late and incomplete deliveries of new products, and sales reps that suddenly become more unhelpful than they were in the past.

That has been GW's strategy for decades. See which independents are selling a lot of GW stuff, then open a shop nearby and take the trade away from them.

I have a deep and unashamed love for Krackers, spent far too much of my youth in Bath Place and ate load of cheeseburgers from the little shop that used to be a few doors down.

Spent many hours chatting with Herman when he ran it... oh to be young again.

I'm sure Krackers will continue, from what I gather they -- like a lot of stores -- have shifted away from GW a fair bit.

When I worked in Taunton the only thing that was there was sex shops and a snooker hall so a new GW store would be brilliant.

That's how GW works; they locate the biggest concentration of people not having the sex and facilitate another past time for them. This is Great News!

Quite possibly in the unit that is now GW!
