I listen to allow of podcasts and I wanted to email one of the hosts of The Eternal Warriors but got an error so I tried to go to their homepage theeternalwarriors.com and the site doesn't exist anymore.

Has this podcast been shut down or shut down on their own?

Yes, thankfully they are gone. They are a bunch of fething D-bags who dug themselves into such a massive hole of negativity and bad press that they had no choice, but to shut everything down and fade-to-black.

Not following 40k podcasts, this sounds interesting. Elaborate, please

A new day, a new time zone.

Is there anything to elaborate on? I always enjoyed it, especially since they ventured onto other games like Dreadball and generally seemed to be one of the less negative GW centric podcasts out there.

Of course, I only listened to the podcast and didn't follow anything else, so who knows what was happening behind the scenes.

Reference their podcast before they renamed it; what you find should prove to be very enlightening.

All I see for "Dice Like Thunder" is a bunch of references to changing the name for no apparent reason. Are you ever going to post a useful explanation of what happened, or are you just going to keep posting "lol, I know about internet drama and you don't"?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Not trying to string you along. I do not have inside information.

I had listened to these guys since the beginning when they were under the DLT name. They started off well enough, one of the best 40K podcasts out there, but in the end they were the cause of their own dimise. Their extreme negativity towards the very thing that made them popular (Games Workshop & Warhammer 40,000) didn't sit well with their fan base. There was outcry and lash back from their fans, but it didn't matter. Their downward spiral of extreme negativity was so bad they had to kill the DLT name and start anew. It's comparable to how Comcast changed it's name to Xfinity.

My belief is that even under the guise of a new name it was only a mater of time before their true personalities shinned through and they found themselves in the same situation.

You were wrong, then, because it was a great podcast to listen to right up to the last one before they stopped updating.

Oh, so they were honest about 40k/GW?

In the end, tensions build within the group and "things got said, that couldn't be taken back" and the podcast ended.

Chris (C-Swizzy) still occasionally pops up on Screaming Heretic since his mrs is also on that 'cast (and they are friends with "the Jen".).

I didn't mind them - but my love for 40k had turned to like and was turning to dislike as time went on - in parallel with theirs - only I didn't turn to WM/H to fill the void like they did for a while. They called it as THEY saw it. They weren't shills, and if they actually liked the game, it did show.

I did find Dreadball - and a mate got me into it, but after getting myself a team, he had to change universities to get his courses which meant moving interstate - so that stalled out.

So basically they probably said how 40k was overpriced and/or had crap rules and/or GW is a bully, and the Faithful felt the need to rise up to defend their God Emperor against the heretics who would dare speak out against the Imperial Cult. And they shall know no fear. Burn the witch. Kill the mutant. Purge the heretic.

Got it.

Thought for the day: An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.

I dunno though, sometimes you just have to wonder how long it'll take before people realize it's not that everyone's just naturally negative or douchey, but that GW themselves are doing things to breed that negativity and effectively turning their own fans against them. But until then, no, it couldn't possibly be GW doing anything wrong, we're the problem.

I like this, especially since they embarked onto additional video games such as Dreadball and generally appeared to be one of many significantly less negative GW centric podcasts out there.

I'm not sure people are under that delusion. I'd say there are lots of people who are critical when GW do something stupid. And then there are just people who are negative and love to complain about things. The second sort aren't just misunderstood. If they run a podcast called 'The Eternal Warriors', focused on 40k but only ever complaining about it, you have to wonder why they bother!

And of course, we also have the same problem the other way around. I really enjoy the Independent Characters, who are generally pro-GW (though disagree/are critical at times) but they take a lot of flak for being 'shills' or 'fanboys' or 'white knights'.

That's because I AM a fanboy. I love 40k. If you don't care for 40k - my show is probably the wrong one for you.

Also - there are MANY posts in this thread in regards to The Eternal Warriors that are just flat out WRONG. Let's not create drama where there is none.

Basically they changed from Dice Like Thunder to The Eternal Warriors because when Mac Martin left the show and went to work for Fantasy Flight Games at the time - his name was directly tied to DLT and it was better for him and the company to disassociate themselves from a media podcast (and likely probably one that was critical of GW from time to time in particular since they had licensing deals with GW).

TEW (The Eternal Warriors) went on for some time, and yes, they became increasingly negative towards GW and 40k in general. That is their prerogative. There was a falling out with one host in regards to some personal (and private) issues. And that individual left the show. The show continues for quite some time after that until basically real life has taken over and the guys on the show (who are all still friends I might add), have just been unable to schedule time and prioritize the show over family and other obligations.

Creating a Podcast takes a lot of work (for people who are unaware). Creating a quality Podcast takes a TON of work (I consider mine - The Independent Characters - to be a quality Podcast).

So that's really it for these guys. Nothing to see here. It's just boring old real life got in the way of some fun. If you didn't care for them. Great. If you did. Awesome.

I had personally stopped listening because it was such the polar opposite of my take on 40k that it just didn't resonate with me anymore. But I will say that I appreciated that they put out FREE content for anyone who wanted to listen to it.

Yeah, me too. I tried for a while, but it's pretty much exactly what I DON'T think, and seemed like a very 'closed group'. Nowadays, I listen to The Overlords (which is also a bit of a closed group, but one I'm part of so thats fine!!), Frontline, and your good self

Let's not be too hasty there Carl, I generally don't care for 40k as a game, but I listen to every episode of the Independent Characters because it's such a good podcast, and some of my favorite episodes are when you talk about things that can function outside of the 40k hobby as well (like Campaign Redux and Mission Design to name a few).

Side Note: There was some audio hiccups in Episode 114, idk if anyone has mentioned it to you yet.

yeah I heard the gap I left in 114. Problem with editing when you are tired.... Thanks for the heads up though! I prefer to think of it as a peak behind the curtain as I struggle to remember the name of the Stormraven....

Fair enough on your comments though. But generally we stay very 40k focused and don't tend to zero in on the things we DON'T like but focus on what we DO like. That said I may have been pretty critical of some things in the upcoming 115 (well critical for ME).

A new day, a new time zone.

That's one of the reasons why 'the Independent Characters' and 'the Overlords' are two of the 40K podcasts I listen to. Each episode comes across as, 'here's how we've been having fun with this game we like' which is fun to listen to, and always gets me in the mood to build and paint.

When I want to get into everything that's wrong with GW, I just read Dakka. ^_^

I'm fine with the ICs staying very 40k focused. I have my own issues with 40k and it's always nice to hear people really excited about a game. If it wasn't for your podcast I'd probsbly have given up on the game long ago.

I'm still waiting on my copy of Talon of Horus to finish episode 113...

On our show, we've generally tried to stay positive, although we're not afraid to be constructively critical. In fact, we sometimes get complaints if we veer too far into NegativityLand, and that's fine. Honestly, I'd much rather listen to a positive show (like the ICs - love ya, Carl!) than a negative one. I had to stop listening to the Eternal Warriors, because for me, the negativity got to the point where it got in the way of my enjoyment of the show. Not saying that they're bad for it - just that it wasn't right for me.

Generally, I defer to the wisdom of Dustin, one of the hosts on our sister show, UnderDiscussion: "I'm not funny enough to be negative on the Internet."

Couldn't agree more with this statement. Love them or hate them - they had an audience that was loyal and really liked the material they were putting out. I have found there is pretty much an audience, of varying size, for any content out there.

I know (most) of these guys personally and they are a great group of people. Doesn't mean we see eye to eye on everything.

Seriously? They were trashing the very thing that made them popular. It's people like DLT/TEW... people with a wide reach of influence that can seed negativity (and they certainly did) and destroy a community. So, yes, that's a 'bad' on them.

Just two comments from this very short thread alone...

To a point I think you are right. However, I wasn't going to say it since everyone expects it from me specifically. The reality is though - that people who still liked 40k stopped listening to them awhile ago.

A new day, a new time zone.

They were still doing what seemed like the right thing to my ear though (although I realize the last episode was long enough back that I don't distinctly remember examples of their GW negativity), which was make a podcast I liked listening to, and make me want to check out the stuff they were talking about. At least somehow I was able to resist buying Dreadball, despite how prominent it's position at the FLGS was. Although I was only listening to them for a short while, so didn't have much to compare to for how they might've changed.

I'd say that's the mark of a good podcast, which is why my ears always perk up when The Independent Characters and Overlords come up on rotation. I was listening to IC #112 or so while making the long drive down for Christmas, and by about the halfway point, had a Hulk-voice chanting in the back of my head, 'Must build! Must play!'

I think it's important to enjoy what you're talking about. That's why we're taking a bit of a 40k hiatus on The Heroic 28s. 40k is just not something we're having fun with any more. One of our friends probably said it best.

"I'd much rather listen to [you] talk about Malifaux than pretend to be excited about 40k."
