Hey all! I'm new to 40k and just started. I went with dark angels and grabbed a codex w couple purchases. I have 3 boxes of terminators/knights, 1 box of company veterans. 3 black knights, belial, and a dark talon. I'm not sure what to equip belial w, and of I should build some knights or all terminators. If anyone can gimme a hand and make a mock list it would be greatly appreciated. This is my first army so I'm excited and eager to build asap. Thank you!

Welcome and i'd say good choice for starting with DA.

firstly i'm guessing you want a DW list right? where are you going to start playing 40k? at your FLGS or with mates?
do you know what your opponents take ? flyer heavy? massed infantry? vehicle heavy?

secondly I've found our Vets to be a bit rubbery as opposed to vanilla marines sternguard.

Belial's builds pretty simple, TH&SS or Sword of Silence and storm bolter. so you get either a 2+/3++ or a 2+/4++ really it depends on the opponent and your preference.

My personal Termie build is a 5 man squad with 1 TH&SS and an AC perfect for pretty much any occasion. This squad will cost around 245pts x 2 and there's your basic troops done.

So here's the basic choice :

Belial Sword and storm bolter ( he's re rolling one missed to hit, and wounding anything bar vehicles and walkers on 2+ )
2x5 DW termies with a TH&SS and AC in each

Now remember you need to start with at least 1/2 your army on the field ( you can have half your army deep-striking rounding up so if you had 7 units 4 could deepstrike)
Here are your other choices for elites or fast attack:
5 DW knights with Perfidious relic ( T5 when in base to base contact also get to use smite attack one per game S10 AP2 just utter death to MC and characters) or
10 man company Vets with assorted gear or
3 black knights and the dark talon ... personally i'd go with this i mean you've got the speed with these units and you can survive with jinks then you can drop the hammer down straight on your enemy with the termies and belial.

Another option is to run the vets as a standard tac squad take the black knights and take the DW Knights as Belial's unit I've done this before and its fairly strong.
So you'd end up with:
Belial
5x DW termies TH&SS, AC
10x Tac squad with ML with flakk and a melta.
5x DW Knights with Relic
3x Black Knights

with this you have 14pts spare for Tac sergeant upgrades.

So yeah any other help needed let me know.

Dark Vengeance models are available for cheap on Ebay. The Tactical Squads can be had for around $10 iirc. The Librarian and Company Master are great deals as well. Bonus: All units from the Dark Vengeance set can be assembled without glue.

If someone has room for you on their Christmas list get a Ravenwing Battleforce. It was the best one around but GW just pulled it. It comes with 3 Ravenwing upgrade sprues in addition to the Speeder and Bikes.

With some bits from ebay, you should be able to squeeze out another Black Knight from that box. They are my favorite DA unit.

Veterans make great Tactical Sergeants. Veteran squads can have some uses at higher points levels, but at 1k you are better off using the bits to make other units look better imo.

Personally I prefer the Nephilim to the Dark Talon, but both are horrible at the moment. Hopefully they get better rules next time.

Interrogator Chaplin has covered the Deathwing sufficiently.

Good luck!

deathwing terminator sgt's can change their loadouts. the rules specifically say that only a terminator may swap out weapons if he trades in his storm bolter and powerfist for X. meaning no lightning claws, no chainfist, no thunderhammer and storm shield. its a verbage error and little more as certain editions of our codex (based on language and digital or hardcopy) they have made this correction but in english they have not.

veterans can be employed one of two ways, one you load em for bear with enough combi- metla's/flamers/plasmas that they could blast whatever it is your trying to kill with them into the next galaxy, buy them a drop pod and use them as a sucidie squad. alternatively you turn them into a poor mans wolf guard terminator by buying them all storm shields and a power axe/maul (25ppm) then t1 them into a nice assault vehicle like a land raider. our veterans are quite versatile as a result doing what terminators want to do only better as terminators cant back 5 flame templates for 170 points or start on the battlefield from a non DWV for under 250 points.

imo nobody gives our veterans enough credit; they are argueably one of the better elite slot choices wearing marine power armor if for no other reason than they can do a variety of jobs really well. if i could; id field nothing but them (if i could keep it BF)

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

Nope, still says Power Fist. Since it took them months to realize they had editied the new 7th edition stuff into an out of date version of the FAQ, I wouldn't expect this to change anytime soon.

Perhaps to get to the heart of the TH/SS question. I rather enjoy fielding a squad of TH/SS with a missile launcher. Though I believe your sarge is stuck with his normal 5++. Not bad to field him in front to soak up not ap2 wounds, if you are expecting them.

Fluxxy101, are you aware of Dakka Banner?

HQ:
Librarian, power field generator
Company command squad, STANDARD OF Dakka (Devastation)

Haminators, cml, HURRicane bolters on a LR!
Haminators, cml, HURRicane bolters on a LR!

Heavy Support:
LR, with hurricane bolters to carry hq and their PFG and DAKKA BANNER

You will out put 72 bolter shots from 3 LR!

U might need Belial to unlock termi as troops. If no Termi troops then just use the Heavy Slots for 3 LR. and get 2 scout squads as troops.

Note that the PFG Errata is back (http://www.blacklibrary.com/Downloads/Product/PDF/Warhammer-40k/7th-faq/Dark_Angels_v1.1_Oct14.pdf), so if you want a bubbled LR, stick the HQ on a bike (you can still take a regular Command Squad) and hide behind the LR. Make it a Techmarine for extra lolz.

Still, your suggestion of trip-raider + dakka banner is fairly far from what the OP has.

This restriction was removed in the change from 6th to 7th - since you have a way to get models on the board turn 1 (Deathwing Assault) you can avoid automatically losing (i.e. not having any models on the board at the end of a game turn), so if you want to reserve everything you can.

The da dex is so weak. Triple banner ed LR list with a techmarine on a bike might be cute. Any drop pod list will likely have a field day with you. Knights and eldar should handily take care of you too. But check your meta and roll with it
