One of the clearest and most concise painting articles I've read, thank you very much for sharing it. Loved that he illustrated the examples with real photos and supplemented with paint examples as well, thanks Olim!

well done most people seem to over complicate this process great tutorial, I've seen the name of the technique alone put people off. good job!

How much practice does this take to perfect?

@thedarkavenger Ill let you know when I get there! It may take years and years to perfect and although I've got pretty good there are some painters who's work I can look and I see just how imperfect my own is. But to give you an idea of how long it takes to get good, I find siting down and trying anew technique and keep trying again and again, after 5 hours or so you can grasp the basics as in it looks right. Then after that the learning is less how to blend but it's instead knowing where the place those colours to make the model look good, and that's something you can get get good at over a number of month.

Here's a thread that was from when I was learning nmm (and also learning glazing at the same time) where you can see my learning proccess: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/538358.page

I've been doing a pseudoblending technique which is time consuming as feth.

I'm just curious to see how long it takes to complete on say, a dragon prince model.

Immediate bookmark. Sent it to my non-painter wife for her use as well. This is a great guide. Simple instructions and I love your diagrams, they are a huge help.

Most of the time blending will be quite time consuming but there are a lot of shortcuts for table top minis, as for how long it takes, well this reaver probably around 2 hours has been spent on the blending so far, whilst closer to 20 hours were spent on the feathering, wet blending and glazing on my golden demon entry. The amount of time it takes increases exponentially with how smooth or complicated the blending is to be.

Wow, that was like getting 20 videos in 5 minutes! Thanks for a really well done, clear coverage (pun intended) of blending!

Blending, especially wet blending and feathering can take huge amounts of time. On the other hand careful blending will achieve results that even an airbrushed model will be jealous of.

Very nice article mate well done .

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

Loved the read. It's great to have a number of different techniques to tackle a challenge and I'll be eager to try some of these out, especially the one for ambient lighting.
