I'm planning on what will be my first real tournament in a few months and would appreciate some help on building a list. The tournament has some list restrictions and the ability to change your list slightly.

"The Point value will be 1750 and the period will be late war June-August ’44. You are allowed two versions of your army list that can differ by up to 300 points. You and your opponent will reveal which list you will use after the mission and attacker/defender have been determined. Both lists have to be the same type (e.g. the change can’t turn your Infantry Company into Fortified Company). If you wish to use a list that grants your Company Always Attack keyword, you must reveal it to your opponent first. Allowed Books: Atlantik Wall, Overlord, Grey Wolf, Red Bear. If you wish to run a list from Road to Rome or Fortress Italy, please contact the organizer"

My current thought is a Herman Goering Panzer Co.

HQ - 2x Pz4
Pz Plt 1 - 4x Pz4
Pz Plt 2 - 4x P4
Pz Plt 3 - 3x P3M 1x P3N
HG Assault Gun Plt - 4x StuH
HG Hvy Pzspah Plt - 2x 8-rad
Nebelwerfers- 2x Werfers
Total: 1750pts

With the option to trade the panzer 3 platoon with a FJ (1st Div) platoon with command faust. Both platoons are 285 points. I don't have any heavy AT and not really sure how the list restrictions are going to change the lists people bring. I have heard rumours that some of the people going like fortified companies. There won't be many German heavies but also allied high AT assets will be restricted. I'm a new player so I'm not really worried about winning but I would like to take a competitive list. My other thought was to take some Panthers to try and take advantage of the lower allied AT but that doesn't help with arty or dug in infantry.

I've seen players have success with Pzr4 Companies and I think the list is solid.

I think you'll find the FJ platoon more useful than the Pz3 Platoon. If you're attacking infantry you'll need them to force your opponent off the objective. If you end up on the defense they can hold an objective.

Does your list have the option for air support? I'm a big fan of it and always take it if I can.

Limited or Sporadic Ju 87D, Bf 109E or FW 190F.

Personally I prefer a more 'combined arms' approach, but depending on your local meta YMMV.

what does it mean by lists can differ by up to 300pts? Does it mean at least 1450pts have to be the same between both lists?

Onto the list, only real major issues I see at the moment are dealing with heavier tanks, and perhaps taking another nebelwerfer to beef up that tiny platoon a bit.

Panzer IV's and StuH's can do well against mediums, but a King Tiger, IS 2, or other similarly heavy tank would practically be immune from the front to this list and depending on what else the other guy has he could make you pay dearly for side shots.

Potential option for that could be air support, 88's (I know that list has options to all sorts of flavors of 88's) Panthers, or perhaps pioneers. I'm not as familiar with the Italian books so I can't think of anything more specific off the top of my head.

Yes that's what it means, 1450 has to stay the same.

I'd like to be able to fit some sporadic air support in there but i don't know what I would remove.

I played a game against a Tankovy player last weekend who had 3 ISU-152's and 3 IS's and I was able to keep one of the platoons smoked for most of the game and get around the flank on the other but, with other higher ROF opponents I agree that I would be in trouble.

Honestly, in Atlantik Wall, Overlord, GW, and RB, you don't get many cost savings for the KT/IS-2/or other truely beefy tanks. Given those limitations, and the 1750 pts, I think the likelihood of seeing them is low.

I think it would be easier to help if we knew what you were looking to do with the 1450 and how to float the 300. I agree that the third PZ platoon appears to be your weak link, but I also think that the StuH could be problematic. Its great when facing infantry, but if you go up against Tankovy, it isn't as useful.
