Finishing up on some other projects, spending time watching some inspiring Ork blogs/ projects and making time to clean my shop got me pulling out the boxes of Orks I've been collecting and not doing anything with. All in all base pts come out to 4100. Not sure that the combination of models and units are that competitive, but they do look like fun to play.
So first things first. I needed a theme. If you search for Orks on the’ Dakka’ gallery, you’ll find an amazing Ork painted with white skin tones. Not sure who painted it and I have no expectations on being able to reproduce it, Still it was a cool enough concept that made me want to push my meager painting skills and go for something unconventional. So grey/ white or Albino Orks was born.

Next were thoughts about the overall look. What Clan to do... if any? Bad moon are popular. So that’s out. Deathskulls are out as well as it would totally break my ‘Albino’ theme. I’ll probably do an Ork band on its own and keep with the unconventional. So I’ll have to think about the secondary colors. Namely for the inf. For the overall metals ( thusly vehicles ), I’m going with a ‘Scrap’ concept. So I’ll be basing them in a rust theme. Red oxide, light rust highlights and some ‘ironbreaker’ drybrushing.
For the makeup I wanted to have a lot of options, Obviously I’ll need to have ‘Da Boys’ . Necessary in any standard FOC. But I wanted to be able to field a well rounded Ork force. I’ll have the options for a Warlord or 2 but I’ll center my Army on a Big Mek whom for lack of a better name I’ll call ‘Da Ghost Mek’. I’ll base his color off a genetic mutation (either by nature or my some Painboy experiment). A Mek banished from normal Ork society for …‘looking like he’s bad luck’. One of the side effects of his mutation is his inability to see color. So I’ll give him yellow eyes.

I’m going to place his Warband on a Rok that has drifted in the darkest space. His fungus producing more of his genetic band in the years of isolation. For the vehicles I’m planning on adding very little color with my rust oxide color. As Painting things just isn’t that important to someone who can’t see color. I’ll add spot color to break up the models and will go with white and red as the major choices. White should adorn most of the faceplates as a representation of the ‘Albino’ theme. My Grots will keep with this theme.
I’ll be working on a test model for the skin tone as well as the red oxide color of the vehicles.
In the beginning I’ll be doing all the painting in measured steps. All Prime, All Base, all skin tones ect. Till I get further into the individual models.

So what’s on the list.
1 Deff Dread (weapon options) - Complete
Morkanaught - Complete.
1x20 Slugga Mob with Nob - Complete
1 runtheard with grots Complete
1 DakkaJet - Complete
Truck - Complete

I'm liking the pale green skin tone. Works well with the bright red.

A few thoughts at this early stage:
The Mek's eyes, you said red. But aren't Ork eyes usually red? Other options are green, as a mixture of red and green make black, therefore representing the inability to see colour. Or, I would have done them black to show a lack of colour, literally.

Spot colours to go with red... green you can't use due to the green tinge of the skin, so blue or yellow... blue may be too close to the green skin, so yellow?

Just thoughts.

I agree with Dr H. Albinism is typically associated with a lack of eye pigment as well as skin pigment. You should do something different with the eyes.

A very pale yellow might be good... it would be creepy as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. Thou the 'green' tint is actually a grey not green. I'll try some yellow and see how it looks. I'm working on 20 slugga boy faces currently. Trying to get the skin technique down. Lot of opportunity to test it out. Yello might not have enough contrast with the pale skin. Green might be better as a tie in to the 'greenskin' genetics. Maybe green with a dot of yellow in the center or maybe reversed. ( note sur I can pull that off thou). Black on the other had would be the easyist to paint, but somewhat boring.

I have a lot built (at least to the point that it'll need to be painted prior to final assembly) and I hope to use some combination of them in a game against YB SW's soon. Git has given me some good list suggestions so I focus on some of these first.

Thanks Cleatus. I'll see about getting some pics of some of the base coated vehicles so you can see where I'm going with them.

Less crop'd picture.

Always good to have your keen insight!

Weekend of painting.. ( if my shop doesn't run out of propane ) I'll take some pics of some of the stuff primed and based. Looking at playing a 1850 SW vs, these guys on Monday! It all won't be painted but should be able to field!

Stalk away my friend!

Ok, as promised.. Here is some of the progress I made this weekend. First .. Base coating of some of the vehicles.
Truck

Battlewagon

A Deff Dread. Finished… I magnetized the weapon load out for 4 CC weapons, 2 Plasma, 2 shootas, and 2 rockets. Shown with Kustom Mega Blasta.

Dakka jet. I modified this with what I thout was a generic fighter. It is set up to be a Dakka jet or a Blitza Bomber. The next flyer will be set up as a Dakka jet or a Burna Bomber. So I have options.

Now the Center of my army. Mork and Gork.. A lot of work to do on these. I’m also going for a better arm positions, by rounding of the arm Hex slots.

Also three Gretchen run Mek Guns frames

Start of the Inf.

Six of the 9 Kans. About 4 have magnetized weapon load outs

Stompa Base coated. I’m going to add some panels in Marine colors indicating used part of vehicles. Probably UltraMarines. this should make a good contrast with all the red oxide color.

In the meantime I've worked on the final Inf. Look and painted some detail for 2 of the 3 Mek Guns in prep for my game tonight against YB's Space wolfs. Brought Camera this time Hopefully I get some pics.

My army for tonight will be ...
Big mek w/Kff
Weird boy - for humor
10 sluggas w truck & Nob
10 slugga & Nob
10 Shootas & Nob
5 MegaNobs with BW
Gork w 3 Meks & 2 burnas
Mork w/ 3 Meks & 2 burnas
Dakka jet
2 Mek Guns with Tractor

DA plan.. Part 1 - not looking for a win. just will try to get a 'feel' on how these units play. Part 2 - have something fun happen with my WB!!

Wow... Already you've got some great progress! That didnt take you much time at all.

The albino angle is a really interesting take on ork skin. I'm REALLY liking the overall rusty basecoat you've given to the vehicles. The white details on them are a bit stark, but I think that might actually work to your favor- Bright white skin on the orks, bright white accents on the mechs

Thanks MT and the good Dr. H.

I was thinking the white face on the Dread is in keeping with the white albino Face of my Big Mek. Thus its more of a Clan symbol. Even the Naughts and eventually the Stompa will have the same Albino face. Ties the Clan together.

The overall rust color will get muted a bit down with a nice ' Meph. Oil wash.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will do.. Decided to go with 'Yellow' eyes. The do look a bit creepy and much better than the normal red. I think the white skin will 1. be unique and 2. with the darker rust color draw the eye towards the figure. So far I'm happy with the overall look.

My original build was very Mek'y. Dreads and a Kan Wall with min Inf. but I never stop at a certain buils , I have to have alot of options when I build a list so it's my curse.

OT.. Your Guy is almost finished. I need to fix a couple of mistakes. I try to do my best work on the GMS's. Do you want me to post or do you want to do that? And I'm sure your guy is great.

Thanks... I don't think I've ever seen these 4 words used together.. Glad you approve!

Moving along. lost my game last night.. 14 to 11. Good game. We played a different version of the scenerios. Roll for a Eternal war mission with Maelstrom cards as secondary. So you get points for cards and in this game for kills. Unfortunitly I just couldn't finish off the Grey hunter squads. At the end there was still 3 squads; thou they only had 2-3 guys remaining. YB fielded a TWolf Deathstar that chewed through everything it hit. Managed to wittle at them but my shooting was horrible and his saves were good. As soon as I check out the few pic I took and upload off the camera, I'll see about posting a few game shots. Not a battle report , but a synopisis.

Worked on the Mek guns a bit and got 2 most of the way done. I also finished a single Ork. Spent a lot of time on what the upper and lower colors should be . I'm leaving all the Armor the rust color. the upper clothing will be red and the pants black. More Goff looking but with the white skin it seems to be not so obvious and I think it works.

Lastly the Morkanaught fell out of the bag when I was loading the car on the way home breaking a few peices, so I'll have to pull it out and access the damages. Initial assessment looks like nothing major.

Again thanks all.. more to come.

Thanks GreatChimp.. I hope to get more details done this weekend.

Plan is to finish the SW I put off to start this then finish up the Mek guns ( just cause they are already in progress ). Then work on more inf. since these will take the longest time. We'll see where my mind is come Sat.

Finished building the remaining 3 more Kans last night. I'll put off doing any more on them till I get my additional weapons bits so I can magnitize the lot... Namely grotzooka's
