The official roleplaying game for DUST Tactics & Warfare has a pre-order on at http://www.modiphius.com/dust-adventures and we've unveiled the cover for the book. If you pre-order the core book in print before the end of the month, you also get the pdf for the core book, and the pdf of the Operation: Apocalypse campaign in PDF for free. It will include rules for converting your characters to Tactics and Warfare tabletop figures and vice versa, and campaigns will include suggested tabletop scenarios, though minis are not required for the rpg.

Lamest cover art I've seen on a wargaming publication, no soul, just sex appeal.

Wow, that mechanic-girl-resting-a-wrench-on-her-shoulder-and-bearing-midriff really gets around...

Uninspiring.

Yeah, seeing this cover it makes me realize why people generalize wargamers as a bunch of sex-starved neckbeards.

Just, why?

EDIT: I'm sure the product itself is interesting, it's just the cover is so damn cliche.

Not really.

Wolsung's version has a red wrench:

Whereas Bombshell's version has a red wrench.

Clearly they're different miniatures. Dust's version will probably have a red wrench.

Oh I'm sure it does, just doesn't seem to scream "adventure" to me. Looks like a couple of people got bored fixing a tank and decided to watch some wildlife feth.

Actually we toned down the over sexualised imagery by making her more of a contemporary girl - but had to stick with the same outfit obviously as that is the character.

Re: art - That's how Paolo Parente rolls I suppose. This isn't the worst of it in all honesty, his Dust comic is so much more worse it easily surpasses the cheesecake of the tabletop game and goes into fetish.

@modiphius: Question regarding the art of this one, will there be new art? I saw the preview page that showed off the characters you could be and those designs are all years and years old by now, so will it mostly be recycling old art or will it feature newly commissioned stuff as well?

FWIW, i like the artwork. despite the bared middriff (which any of you that have worn a welding jumper know damn well why she's got a small tshirt on. gak gets hot, particularly if you're not in AC), it's not oversexualized, she's not wearing her welding jumper AND 9" porn stilettos, and the chest is in proportion with the rest of the girl - her hair's also in a pragmatic pony tail rather than a glamor shot that looks like it took 12 cans of Aqua Net.

I like it. She's still cute, but not oversexualized. Calling this oversexualization is reving up the Social Justice Warrior mobile a little pre-emptively. It's not like it's a Juan Diaz sculpt.

It's not that I think it's oversexualized (trust me, the Kingdom: Death stuff makes this look like child's play), it just seems inconsistent with the other stuff I've seen from DUST. You have this WWII-mecha feel going, with a 1950's style, and then you have the girl with the trendy glasses and the tiny shirt. I just feel the two characters shown are so juxtaposed against each other and the tank in the background.

I understand, and I hope I didn't come off as too dickish with my comments. I'm sure it's not really all that important, it was just a detail that stuck out to me immediately.

You simply notice the 2 characters shown are really juxtaposed towards each other as well as the container without anyone's knowledge.

I quite like the cover - its quite melancholy - like they are watching a city burn - its not very action orientated and its a lot less cheesecake than other stuff they do!

but then I do like cheesecake

Considering that this is Paolo Parente I am surprised that it wasn't more sexist. However good a DUST game would otherwise be, the sexism makes it a no go for me.

I don't mind the smexy mechanic gal, but I don't see why they don't show a mech. The tank in the background looks pretty generic, if you don't already know the game you'd assume it's a normal rolling on treads type tank and not a diesel punk walking mech in a world of Nazi gorillas and commie zombies.

Just saying.

The million dollar question is to ask if the game is going to stay around longer then ten minutes this time around.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Uh? Dust Tactics (and Warfare) is still around? what do you mean?

Talking about the "offensive" cover aside.

I would rather be interested in information on the system and how much fluff is in it.

Probably started with Kaylee from Firefly. There have been a number of Kickstarters with Kaylee and other Serenity crew homages: Sedition Wars, Blackwater Gulch and Wild West Exodus to name a few.

Seeing as the official forums are full of complaints of unfulfilled shipments, zero response from Battlefront aside from meaningless sporadic updates, and now people just posting links to fraud reporting due to the complete lack of professionalism from a company that took half a million dollars from backers for "expedited distribution of finished models" and has yet to send those models after nearly a year, I don't honestly see how you can argue they are "still around" in any meaningful way other than to take people's money and provide them nothing.

I know the company writing this book was contracted out, but my advice to anyone looking at Dust as a brand, but specifically where it relates to Battlefront Studios, is to stay far away. I sold my army off and cut my losses awhile back, as BF is going to run the Dust brand into the ground and/or out of business.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games
