Subject: Black Rain UPDATE PROTOYPES (APR 26th 2015)
Why is the world map drawn from the north pole? Have Earth's continents visibly changed by 2080? If so, then a more common orientation might better illustrate that.
The faction's theme was shown in rather unnatural proportions of the body: longer limbs, wide hips, and a very thin waist.
That made me chuckle. I don't disapprove, but I'm very curious to see what the other units in the UNAS look like.

Thank you.
Honestly we have tons to show. More 3d renders, concept art, paintings, music videos, game play aids like unit cards and rules. Much much more to come.
Our goal is to get feedback and build some steam for the Kickstarter. We'd like to begin building ties with the gaming community at large. All of us at Shockwork are seasoned gamers and hobbyist. we understand the need to build a community and listen to that communities opinions.

Well, you guys are off to a good start in my opinion. Your model render looks great, the lore is interesting, and a build up time before launching any crowdfunding attempt sounds like a good idea.
Like, Jehan, I think Kali looks good. I'm looking forward to more of your work.
Why is the world map drawn from the north pole? Have Earth's continents visibly changed by 2080? If so, then a more common orientation might better illustrate that.
Why is it such a shocker? I mean, most Earth maps we use seem to use the north Atlantic as its main orientation, kinda based on the idea that North America and Europe are the center of the world. Now we often see alternative maps, like the Pacific oriented world map. Perhaps the geopolitical reality has changed that much that the center of power isn't the US/Europe/East Asia anymore, or perhaps they have all become equal power.
I think the map's orientation is more of a political thing, rather than some geographical or axial thing.
That's pretty much why I was asking; because most maps we currently use (here in the USA) have a different orientation. I'm just curious if there's any specific reason that was done - like your example of it being political in the Black Rain universe - or if it was simply cool looking.
Well, I'm interested. I think this could make a really cool setting for a miniature game. I'm getting Metal Gear Solid/Deus Ex vibes from this, which could open up possibilities to some really cool and bizarre-looking models.
Yeah, I see "artificial muscle and bone" in that lore somewhere. Would really love to see some cool mechs come out of this, like the Gekkos from MGS4, or something like Metal Gear RAY even? Soldiers like Federova from DX:HR, with the weird digitigrade legs and other kinds of bizarre augments, which Kali already strongly reminds me of with the elongated proportions and multiple limbs. I'm actually really excited for this.
Now, a burning question on my mind; is this going to Kickstarter or are you funding this yourselves? I feel like I already know the answer but I'm getting kinda tired of Kickstarters and all the pains that go with that, main one being constant delays. Not that it's a deal breaker or anything.
Also, in case anyone didn't notice:
Shockwork Studio is devoted to creating highly detailed multipart plastic styrene miniature that give modeling fans and hobbyist a plethora of customizable parts.
"Proper" plastic? Maybe?

Why high heels?
I'm really fond of the design, except for the heels. In my opinion, it ruins the whole aesthetic, because why on earth would a cybernetically enhanced spec-ops killer wear heels?
Please, reconsider this design choice, for the sake of the project. Stuff like this can quickly undermine the integrity of an idea and even the whole setting. Gratuitous heels, butts, breasts and hips, while aesthetically pleasing to some, should probably have no place on female fighters who should be taken half-serious. Also, while I in no way say that no model ever should have a pronounced chest, the female body offers a lot more forms than just the... voluptous one miniatures portray most of the time, so please, for the sake of me spending money on your product, consider that
If you'd deliver on such a front you'd at least win a customer in myself.

Eh, i know what you're saying, but it's not like they're stiletto heels. Remember, this is still sci-fi catering to gamers, and while the overall design is a little sexy, it's not oversexed beyond comprehension like some stuff out there. A touch of heel sure isn't the most pragmatic thing ever, but at least its a flat cleft heel boot, and not a 9 inch porn stiletto.
If you're looking for completely pragmatic designs... i think you might get disappointed from any company. They need it to be a little sexy. It draws the eye, which opens wallets.
Edit: BTW, gorgeous model. I really like it. Love the Bubble Gum Crisis feel.

Korraz, yeah, she's a spec-op killer with a cybernetic body. And part of that body are these feet (it's not shoes even, more of a body part itself) And yes, sorry, but she's suppose to be sexy. That's the part of her that we would like to explain later when we'll talk about the story behind her. Another thing is that UNAS society is like that, women there use these kind of augumentations to look more femine, and tempting. That's the part of their consumerism as a nation.
So Kali has a very UNAS body features, with combat features. So sorry, but I don't think we'll change the design, as it is a faction theme.
To make you more happy, that mini is the only barbie girl in the whole range;]
One tip: try to get some high quality prints out first. I know it will cost you a bit, however it can really give you an edge during a Kickstarter campaign. The problem with just renders is that they don't say that much about how a model will look like in real life.
So the entire focus is on Earth, no aliens or other wolds, did I get that right?
Be interested to see if you could produce these in hard plastic.
you are correct the entire game is set only on earth Kessler syndrome has made it impossible to leave the planet.
the only material that we will produce these in is plastic styrene that is our top priority. no other material will really work for the scale and scope of what we're trying to achieve. we're talking about multi-part models with extra options including optional head and extras (loose arms reloading guns for example) including optional kits as well as multiple builds being not just encouraged but built into the design.
Kali is named special character, our units for infantry and mechanized infantry will have multiple builds possible right out of the box including things like alternative heads special weapons, hardware and weapon options represented with glue on Parts. Get a new bits box ready.
You'll see soon and just so you guys know this isn't make it up as we go along we're sitting on tons of stuff here we can't put it all out at once. Over 4 years of silent development holding beautiful beautiful secrets for you guys

I'll definitely keep an eye on this. Do you have casts of models, or a general window you're aiming at for release, etc? I just don't want to be teased too far out is all but this is definitely promising.
I like the designs so far. Definite Metal Gear Revengeance and Deus Ex vibes. Color me interested. Any chance to see a basic soldier design sometime soon?

Its tough we are getting much less feedback than I expected.
We have alot stuff to show. Our renders and concept match and everything has been draw and redrawn, rendered and re-rendered until everything is up to spec.
I believe our next blog post will be more 3d previews. Hopefully that will draw a little more dialog.
