A cold wind howls relentlessly from the north, chilling the riders to the bone. "We stop here for the night" called the man at the head of the column, the Empire outriders had been scouting the lands west of the river Lynsk for 6 nights, so far no enemy had been seen.
With camp set up next to the river, the men took to sitting around the fire, keeping warm and discussing why no sign of the Norse warbands had been found. "Maybe they've settled for the winter or pushed off to bother someone?" asked one of the men. "No", replied the grim leader of the party, "I cannot remember a single winter undisturbed by these savages, we are missing something." There is a small splash from the river, the man looks towards it but soon turns his head back towards his comrades, "just a fish."

Ropes strain and boats creak aboard the longboat, a lone, ironclad figure stands tall at the bow, staring into the night ahead. Powerful metal shod footsteps thunk along deck as a warrior approaches the man from behind, "M'Lord?", "Speak!" snarls the figure. "There is a fire in the woods to the east, I fear our passage south is being watched." The figure turns to the man and laughs, his blood red armour glinting in the moonlight. "So the non-believers have come north? Our Lord shall receive his gifts early this season... drop the anchor."

Hello DAKKADAKKA.com,

I'm in the process of building my first Warhammer army in over a decade, Warriors of Chaos (Mark of Khorne)! Here I plan to post my WIP painting pictures and some rough painting guides. I am by no means an 'Eavy Metal painter, but I can paint to a tabletop standard and hopefully with your help, I'll get a lot better!

I also run a blog at:
https://www.facebook.com/scrollsfortheskullthrone
and
http://scrollsfromthescrollthrone.blog.com

So stay tuned for regular updates and plenty of questions from myself in regards to painting tips. In the future and with the potential changes in 9th Ed, I plan to branch to have a Khornate Beastherd and a Daemons of Khorne force.

To start with I'll show you what I have so far, apologies for the standard of the pictures.. when I get back to my army I'm going to retake a lot of these with backdrop/lighting.

Warriors with 2 hand weapons.

Warriors with hand weapons and shield.

Warriors with halberds and shields (From pre 2004, will be stripped, converted and turned into my Chosen with great weapons!)

Marauders with flails, they need a bit of touching up.

Converted Chaos Lord into my BSB.

WIP Knights of Khorne!

WIP bases for Skullcrushers and Knights

Update on my Crushers!

Nearly done, just need to add on the pesky shoulder plates/shields that hide a lot of the model and apply the final highlight. I went for a red basecoat, then 3 tiered drybrush on all the red before washing with Agrax.

The two on the right are not as red as I was hoping (guy on the left was painted on a black basecoat then Khorne Red, Meph,Wildrider highlights) so I need to tweak my colours slightly I think.

Hopefully I can fix it all up when I paint the champion, who will fill the empty space!

The musician's helmet is a conversion of a Marauder helmet with the Khorne bits/skull added to make him fit in. Reason for this was there is only one bare head in the kit, and it is a Daemon head (horns sprouting out of head).. I like to keep my Warriors fairly "human".

Next on the list after these guys is to rebase all my Warriors

Really nice work!

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the particulate.

Thanks!

Warriors all re-based, I sat them in boiling water up to their feet and the bases just dropped off!

Next up is my horde of 40 Marauders, can see these guys taking a while. Might do 10 at a time in between other projects.

So I've been out of action for a while, I sent skiing for a week and ended up slicing through my leg and ended up in surgery. Ironically I lost of a blood, hopefully the Blood God was pleased for my offering!

Breaking my theme of mortal units, I wanted to get some practice painting Daemons (ready for the new Bloodthirster!). Here is my first completed unit of Bloodletters, note the unit fillers. I have one cavalry base and one 50x50 base to break up the uniformity of the unit and gets me 3 free models. I'm keen to hear peoples opinions on unit fillers, personally as long as you don't go over the top, they are a fine edition to a unit.

Photo from above showing the unit fillers better.

Next up is to finish off my final Skullcrusher, making a unit of 4. I'm also trying to build up motivation to paint some marauders, but I might wait to see if they make it into 9th before I spend a lot of time on them.

Stay tuned!

Honestly, i'm not that much a fan of your colour scheme, but I do think you execute it quite good. The contrasts of your highlights are nice. What I like most about your work, I think, are the bases. Maybe it's more common for WHFB to make sort of a landscape for units, and in any case that would be a reason for me to pick up a fantasy army up one day ^^
That also means I like your unit filler It gives more dynamic effects, and I just really like the colours ^^

@soulcow. Thanks for the feedback, what don't you like about the colour scheme? Too bright for Khorne? I tried to follow a Blood Angels scheme. Yeah I love the bases, they make a nice contrast. Cheers!
