Here a list I thought up of last night and im wondering how you guys feel it would fair in a competitive setting.

Combined Arms Detachment

385 1x Swarmlord / 2x Hive Guard
240 1x Flyrant / Wings / 2x TL Devourer BLW / Egrub

15 1x Mucolid Spore
15 1x Mucolid Spore
15 1x Mucolid Spore
15 1x Mucolid Spore

50 1x Zoanthrope
50 1x Zoanthrope

140 1x Mawloc
140 1x Mawloc

Hive Fleet Leviathan Detachment

240 1x Flyrant / Wings / 2x TL Devourer BLW / Egrub
240 1x Flyrant / Wings / 2x TL Devourer BLW / Egrub
240 1x Flyrant / Wings / 2x TL Devourer BLW / Egrub

85 1x Malanthrope
85 1x Malanthrope

15 1x Mucolid Spore
15 1x Mucolid Spore
15 1x Mucolid Spore

2000pts Total

So its pretty straightforward, 1 CAD and one Leviathan detachment.

4 flyrants for air superiority (also because their just awesome), the Swarmlord allows my Mawlocs and Mucolid to deepstrike more dependably on 2nd turn (maybe a few Mucolid could start on the board to offer cover for the rest of my units if I feel I need it)

the Malanthropes are there to give moving shrouding and the Swarmlord is also the main piece in the middle which can hurt mostly anything that gets close (area denial) and would definitely be a big target so I'm going for 2 Tyrant Guards to increase his survivability.... and 2 Malanthrope to give my opponent something else to shoot at.

Lots of psykers, 15 levels total so I would hope for lots of Catalyst.

Mawlocs add a certain dimension and can deal with the invisibility Deathstar if it shows up.

Quite a bit of anti tank, Warp blast should be fairly present, 4 Electroshoc Grubs and plenty of Smash attacks for heavy armour and 48 TL Str6 shots for lighter armour.

No issue with synapse in this list at all.

whatchu think dakkanaught?
Is this competitive?

Well...if you take a good list and add Swarmy, you still have a good list. But what does Swarmy bring? By that I am asking "How does Swarmey add 285+ points of effectiveness?" And I don't see it. Couldn't you grab a Fort, and a Comms relay?

Heck swarmey runs 2 Mawlocs, and change without Tyrant Guards. And I would rather have the Mawlocs... The only Swarmey list that I've seen that seems "worth it" is using Swarmy to bodyguard, and buff a LOW. Swarmey becomes durable, because there is a bigger target right next to her.... I think that if you are going to get full value, you need to add componites that benefit from the rest of Swarmeys bag of tricks.....

If you are set on swarmy maybe just drop him in a pod. With 4 flyrants he becomes a serious threat once dropped, hopefully turn 2, this may deter people shooting at flyrants and put you really close to a target unit you want swarmy to fight. Hopefully placing him in ruins and then assaulting next turn. Any shooting at him isn't at your flyrants. Just an idea. Walking up the board just feels like 385pts that may or may not ever get to do any killing which is fun. Any extra points drop the extra mucolids in your CAD to get Objective secured DS rippers.

thanks for the responses guys,
What i see that swarmey brings to this list is, first, + 1 to reserve roll, considering the 9 units in reserve comming out I feel theres something there.
Second, he brings more psykic power which is always a good thing to help counter those invisibility spells and get more feel no pain.
Third, giving prefered enemy or furious charge to somebody can still have its value.
Fourth is the biggest reason though, its also to give a strong middle point and area deny unit. He can protect those malanthropes and Zoanthropes from close combat threats and wherever he goes the enemy will try to stay away from.

Dont get me wrong, I dont think this is the strongest list out there. the Swarmlord isnt that good, I know that but I feel that a list like this could allow him to have his place. I was kindof considering losing one more flyrant to get 2 units of 15 gaunts and 2 more single Zoanthropes, the Hormagaunts are a nice complement to Swarmey since he gives them furious charge without me needing to pay 2pts a piece. and they give some bodies for swarmey to send around and take bullets

the issue I see with swarmey in a pod is that then he doesnt have a shrouding cover save and doesnt help the zoanthropes feel protected

Have you considered a "Bugstar" using Swarmy? A Veno, and 25 to 30 Hormies could make for a terrifying escort for Swarmy. You lose the auto "Loook ooout!" but gain an exelent cover save. Being able to toss PE, or FC on a big block of Hormagaunts sounds very cool.

I did, but I much prefer Malanthropes over venomthropes

They are better, but the Synapse is less useful, with Swarmy in the same group, and even the extra PE buff is less critical. I like Malan for a "Bugstar" but as the Synapse source...so the Big Bug would be something else...I suppose twin Dakkafexen are only slightly more expensive than Swarmy though...
