Hello Dakka!
Here's my situation: A small tourney is being run by my FLGS, in which competitors are required to bring an army of between 500-520pts for the first games... the irregular points annoys me greatly, but it's obviously to allow a certain list to be run by a certain player...probably the manager's own entry. The rules require 1 HQ, 2 Troops, then any extras. No fliers/FMC's, No 2+ saves with the exception of your warlord. the meta will be along the lines of Tyranids- Infantry horde, 'Mekanised' orks, foot imperial guard and Black Legion chaos.
I'm not list tailoring however, just running my themed raven guard, that I always run in such low point games...with minute alterations to allow for the irregularity of the points. comments and criticisms welcome, though I'd rather not change my list too much as it's a themed army in it's models, in that they are my cloaked raven guard infiltration and assassination force.

Raven Guard Chapter Tactics:
Captain (Shadow Captain Adriel) (Artificer armour, Jump Pack & Burning Blade)...180pts
Assault Squad U.N.O (5 Additional Assault Marines)...170pts
Tactical Squad D.O.S (Missile Launcher)...85pts
Tactical Squad T.R.E.S (Heavy Bolter)...80pts
Total:515ptsany

this tourney could potentially become an escalation league, so recommendations as to what to add to the force next would be appreciated...

Depending on your collection, I'd think a 500 point list with Korvydae and Assault Marines as troops would be a lot of fun, Kor's Thunder Hammer and some meltabombs for whatever AT you might need, lots of flamers and cheap ASM's with pods or packs or some of each.

He's the Captain & a Forge World character whose rules are in IA8. Points wise, he is a captain with artificer armour, a jump pack and a thunder hammer. However, he gets free melts bombs, gives his squad hit and run and allows assault marines to be taken as troops in a Raven Guard army (Though you do have to take at least 1 scout squad if he is your warlord). Altogether, a character that I would recommend to any Raven Guard player who wanted to do a fast moving assault-themed army. He is almost entirely better than Shrike except in close combat (A Thunder Hammer vs Master Crafted Rending Lightning Claws).
