Just quickly curious if units from IA 5-7 Renegades and Heretics are still applicable with IA 13. They're all Renegades and Heretics and it APPEARS that it is allowed. 'In some cases entire entries from other codexes and Imperial Armour books are used and...()...not included here for the sake of berevity'. Why haven't I actually seen any Renegade lists using those older book units? I'm a little surprised to be honest since some of them were very very interesting. Alpha Legion for instance.

Units, yes, not Army Lists. IA 13, according to pg 150 about the Renegades and Heretics Army List, only units substantially altered or added to have been included. Doesn't mention cutting out units like Alpha Legion, Plague Marine Exalted Champions, Apostate Preachers of Khorne and so on. For units like Zombies or Command Squads, yes there's a new unit entry so the new rules would be used.

That's referring to using rules and weapon not posted in the IA13 such as the weapon profiles for Leman Russes and such. It's not permission to use an outdated army list.

That makes me sad... The idea of having a single Plague Marine leading a human army would have been fun.

It's still doable. Take a CAD from CSM with a Nurgle-themed Chaos Lord and 2 minimum squads of Cultists, fill out the rest of the list with an IA13 detachment.
