On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Just received news of this in my inbox, looks very interesting!

The Great War Strategy Board Game launches on Kickstarter!

The Plastic Soldier Company will launch the game with a crowdfunding campaign – commencing Friday, 6th February.
The launch of The Great War Strategy Board Game will begin on Kickstarter with a campaign to fund the pre-production and publication of the game, setting the foundation for future development of the line. The campaign has an initial funding goal of £25,000 and will end on 8th March.

The Great War Strategy Board Game
The Great War is the latest adaptation of Richard Borg’s tried and tested Command and Colours game system bringing the epic battles of the First World War to the gaming table. Players can command armies of detailed, hard plastic, 1/100th scale miniature figures representing British and German troops of the time.

The confusion of battle and challenges of command and control are provided through command cards, combat cards and HQ tokens that limit what can be done each turn and custom dice are used to resolve the effects of any combat that occurs.

The game includes scenarios to allow the re-enactment of battles such as Loos, The Somme and Vimy Ridge as well as many other actions. The board can be reconfigured using terrain tiles to reflect any battlefield of the period and allows additional scenarios to be created.

This is the first game in a series that will in time cover all aspects of the war on land with additional figures including cavalry, tanks and artillery and additional nationalities (France, USA and Russia) being added in subsequent modules.

Future expansions will add other new mechanics and game elements, and open up more opportunities for player-vs-player action.

Pledges and Rewards
In the The Great War Strategy Board Game project on Kickstarter, backers can choose to support the game at many different pledge levels.
The project starts with five initial stretch goals of between £25,000 and £125,000 and will be reviewed throughout depending on the success of the campaign.

The Great War Strategy Board Game is planned to ship to backers in June 2015,

For more information and to pledge, visit The Great War Strategy Board Game Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1992455033/the-great-war-0

To know more about the game and the expansion check out www.pscgames.co.uk/thegreatwar

This is our first venture into the world of boardgames. Hopefully the start of many boardgame ventures.

Best wishes
Will

Wonder if they'll ever sell the miniatures separately, I know a lot of people who would like some plastic WWI infantry.

There are pledge levels for just the minis - £15 for 81 of them (just British and German so far). Looking at the KS pics of the sprues it looks like these have already been made.

I LOVE the system, and its way of representing the fog-of-war, in the sense that giving orders isn't exactly a precise science. The minis look nice enough here... but this sounds like a case of me actually *gasp* wanting to back on the likely strength of the game.

Some good stretch-goals, and hopefully non-insane US shipping costs and i'll be in.

I'm going to be all over this. I really just want the mini's (and the shirt and mug) but I could totally go for the game as well. The fog of war seems like a good mechanic.

And backed. I fear painting the minis though.

15mm isn't bad to paint, though obviously there a lot less detail involved.

Assembling multi-part infantry models will be the hardest part!

Oh, that is awesome. I'm obsessed with Memoir '44 and Battles of Westeros, I'm all over this. And for once I'm in early enough for Early Bird. That never happens.

I'm hoping this becomes available at retail after the KS is over so the game/minis get traction. Very impressed by this.

Definitely backing this one, PSCs minis are usually fantastic and whilst I've never played a game that uses the Commands and Colors system I've been meaning to for some time.

Another plus of this is that once the moulds are set up for the infantry figures they will be able to issue them separately as add-on packs that other wargames will be able to use for other rules sets.

The downside is that being 15mm, there are very few vehicle and artillery models available.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Well the Kickstarter page does list planned expansions. So it's not hard to believe that over time PSC will be producing a pretty complete WW1 plastics range.

Infact have a quote from the kickstarter page

In this core game, the main focus is on a number of WWI trench warfare battles. However, a series of expansions, which will feature early war, Eastern Front scenarios, tanks, airplanes, other national armies, plus more special personnel figures, are already in the planning stage to enhance your WWI gaming experience.

I like the Richard Borg games and have been hoping for a range of WW1 plastics for a while now. This makes me very happy indeed.

Happily backed this. More WW1 boardgames? Yes please.

Plastic WW1 figures? More yes.

And that email they sent out showing a link to this thread totally didn't send me here...

Looks like most of it is done, it's just a question of printing the components. And yes, that could result in SNAFU's and hold-ups, but at least there's no long development period.

Yeah the sprues look about ready so they are confident it'll be shipped on time. They added a £10 credit stretch goal as they don't want to risk adding more stuff to delay it, so I assume the rest of the goals are more or less ready to start production.

It's now hit £50k, so the £45k goal of 2 extra missions is done and we're coming up on the £55k goal of the metal personalities.

I'm not sure it's going to go much higher but if we get the personalities and the tin I'll be happy. I'll be happier with plastic tanks too of course!

There's been a bit of a re-org of stretch goals as follows:

£25k base target

£35k 2 extra scenarios exclusive to Kickstarter set - UNLOCKED!

£53k metal command figure sets exclusive to Kickstarter set - UNLOCKED!

£60k £10 voucher towards a future Great War expansion set

£70k Plastic artillery guns and crews to replace the reserve artillery card tokens ( 5 British guns and crews and 5 German guns and crews) exclusive to Kickstarter core game sets but will be available to purchase as separate sets in the future.

£80k replica Princess Mary 1914 Christmas tin, for storing cards and dice

£100k plastic Mk IV tank

£125k plastic A7 tank

And it's currently sitting at £54,556, so the command figures are in and the £10 credit is looking likely.

Hopefully we'll at least hit the plastic artillery and the replica tin but things have slowed down quite a bit.

Only 3 days to go now, and at £61,769 so the £10 credit is in, but the artillery is looking uncertain.

It's not *that* far away and will hopefully be hit by a final push.

Slightly surprised this didn't gain a bit more traction. Hopefully we get the artillery. It looks great.

While the rules are undoubtedly good (Memoir '44, Battle Cry, BattleLore, C&C Ancients, etc.), and PSC makes great 15mm and 1/72 scale minis, I'm not so surprised this didn't do that well.

PSC didn't have a very strong marketing team to push the word out to the various websites, and it's was up against Conan and now CMoN's Blood Rage - both very high profile games that are taking a lot of dollars. Plus, it's not like the campaign was launched on for 100th anniversary of start of the war to piggyback off of the general news interest.

Further, it's denominated in British Pounds instead of US dollars, which is where the bulk of the money goes. Non-USD reduces interest because it kind of locks out the biggest games

Had PSC gone through CMoN, with their massive mailing list and marketing reach, this would have easily eclipsed Rivet Wars. Especially if tied to the anniversary this summer.

I think the result is about right for how this was launched.

Yeah, GBP projects never seem to do quite so well, as IIRC they only take credit cards directly and not indirectly via Amazon, and the shipping costs will be higher for the US (which IIRC has to be free for US based projects)

Only £3,500 to get the artillery and 18 hours left, so it's very possible.

The problem is that it won't open the British or German Tanks.

Everybody wants the tanks.
