So this is my first attempt at a plog. It will be all sorts of random stuff. But hopefully if I regain focus mostly Black Templars and Imperiatl Guard (I'm never going to call them Astra Militarum). I have recently, over the past year bought far too much stuff from eBay and am slowly working my way through it.

Things I want to do:
Paint lots of diffferent Space Marine Chapters.
Expand my Crusade
Maybe make a viable list for an army and get my first game in since the start of 5th?
Create more inquisitorial bands and expand my current ones
Finish at least half of the miniatures that I have bought
Not buy anything more that I don't need/ can't paint for ages and just slowly work through my pile of plastic.
Not paint any miniature to a standard that I am not proud of.

In doing this plog I hope to keep myself more focussed and to keep my enthusiasm on painting and modelling rather than on buying and planning. There is some hope!

So here are some pictures of what I have. And what I'm going to be doing. This first update is not much to look at I know but there is better, and more random stuff to come!

Cheers

Ig

So in a bid to keep up my momentum with painting I have decided to enter the monthly challenge for painting space marines, in fact I wish to do the maximum number of entries so as to inspire myself to do as much as possible, well I sure ain't getting that from the comments on here

So I decided to do some Templars. Here are the models at the building stage. These pictures will be used as my WIPs for them and to prove that they are mine! I am really excited about this and am looking forward to seeing these through to completion.

Cheers

So I did a bit of painting last night and quite alot happened. Guess this five marines in a month thing might have to become 5 marines in a week for me!

I'm liking working at this pace as it means that I've got to keep focussed and get it done. It could really help me work through my crazy piles of unpainted and unbuilt plastic and metal.

I started out working on some basing which I find quite boring- but I had fun doing the details on each base. I try to do this to limit my own boredom but also to make the miniatures a bit more exciting rather than just having exactly the same base. I think this is especially true of urban basing as plain grey looks terrible. From this I then went on a bitz box dive and created two completely new guys that I had no intention of making until last night. It was quite fun and I really think that this imposed goal has energised me.

I'm quite pleased with these two and although they aren't completely done I thought I would share them. I'm particularly pleased with the flamer-thing on the guy who has a helmet and the freehand on the shield on the guy who is unhelmeted. I tried a new technique with the sword on the flamer guy and I quite like it, but I'm not too happy with the sword on the shield guy.

Any C&C welcome, especially about the skin tone as I tried a new recipe

Cheers

Just another update on the marines for the monthly competition.

I've made some progress on the second two in the squad, with another power sword armoured crusader and a brother who has got a cybernetic replacement for his arm. I am quite pleased with how my quick and basic bronzeish gold has worked out on all the models, and particuarly on his arm. Hopefully I'll get a picture of the whole lot together at some point soon.

If anyone wants to comment, c&c always welcome, and in particular maybe the pink flames and the colour balance of the squad as a whole if you get what I'm trying to say.

I've also been doing some more freehand stuff and recently been thinking of adding small bitz and grenades, purity seals etc to the models so expect a tiny update soon with all of this fine work added.

I'm pretty pleased with progress at the moment, even if they aren't generating any response!

Well now I'll leave it to the pictures

Cheers

Thankyou for the feedback optometris and dubovac it's nice to get some written responses so soon!

Have't got any pictures for updates just yet but just for you dubovac I'll do the brother with the powerfist next. I am pretty pleased with him myself and I feel like he would be a great addition to the group now and for the rest of the week, and hopefully for the majority of the blog optometris there will be plenty of Templars for you to look at.

I love your VIII Legion dubovac and thanks for the feedback on the pose, I'm pretty pleased with all of them but I do feel like I have captured some of the Templar feeling with the powerfist brother.

And optometris I love your Landraider Crusader and any feedback on painting would be greatly appreciated and I might have to steal your alternative painting and headswap of Helbrecht, and I love finding another Templar player that hand paints his crosses.

I all thanks for stopping by and I hope that I can provide you with some mildly interesting pictures for you guys on here to look at.

Cheers

Thanks My paint schemes are actually really simple - keep the black simple, with very dark grey highlights. focus on highlighting bolters, chainswords, tabbards or chest aquillas. Love the marshall guy with the shield and the heresy flamers is great. I like using bits from Dark Angels, GK, empire greatswords, bretonnian helmets.

Thanks for the tips Optometrisn and thanks for the continued feedback. I love your painting style and at the moment I'm focusing, rather obviously on getting my blacks, reds and my whites just how I want them. I feel like my whites are less streaky now and hopefully I'm starting to get the hang of highlighting the black without making 'Grey Templars' as I want to do dark black as it were, like you do.

I love using bitz from all over the place although despite my trawling through bitz sites and the like I always miss out on the Bretonnian helmets- its all the other Templar players nabbing them!

This next guy is for dubovac and this post sees the return of the powerfist armed crusader. He is a much darker palette at the moment, and I'm hoping to leave him this way and he seems to me to be a more monastic darker marine than the others who are displaying gold and heraldry etc.

He is only blu-tacked together right now as I haven't had as much time as I wanted today to spend on him but hopefully I'll get him finished tomorrow.

Lastly the bottom picture of this update shows a shield on the flaming power sword marines left arm. I was wondering if any fellow marine players would have any suggestions on how to affix said shield as there is an approximately 1/2 centimetre gap inbetween the shield and the arm in the middle

Cheers

Yeah I know blurry pictures but the camera was kind of dying and faffing around with it eats into valuable painting time. And thanks for the feedback on the sword conversion, I had my doubts but I'm actually quite pleased with it now.

have you tried fixing it more onto the bolt pistol like on the assault squad shield??

I plan on having a big clear out of my bitz and stuff in the next few weeks. I plan on rounding up all my unfinished squads and sticking them in baggies and working on them one bag at a time so its less daunting lol I'll try to see if theres anything cool I can put aside for you if you like as I'm running out of space. anything youre particularly interested in?

I have tried fixing it to the bolt pistol but the problem is that it is an old empire shield and its quite curved so there is a big gap in the middle of the shield where I want to fix it. Guess I just need to think about it a bit more and maybe have a rummage around the flat to look for a suitably sized widget to stick in the gap to secure it. In fact I'm pretty sure now that this is the way to go then as it shouldn't be visible from any angle except maybe the top-down view but I'll put something there.

Regarding bitz anything cool and templary would be most welcome. I get as much inspired by bitz a I do looking at other peoples models so if you don't want it I'm sure it can inspire me and find a place in one of my armies.

If you want to set up a trade just PM me. I've got all sorts of random stuff tucked away and who knows you might want some of it! Thanks for the continued involvement and helping me to motivate myself towards painting.

Hi guys its time for an update.

Well just for dubovac I've made some progress on the brother with the power fist. Hope he's got the same feel and templary-ness that made him stand out in the first place.

I tried out my new method for trying out power fists and power effects which I think turned out quite well. I haven't tried to do any OSL as I feel like his darkness is quite good and is a nice offest to the power fist. He has been good fun to paint so far and I liked all the wibbly wobbly purity seal stuff I had to do on him.

Not much else to add really so I'll let you look at the pictures

Cheers

So I haven't had any time for painting today which is sad- boo having to actually do some work.

I thought though I should at least try and upload some pictures to add some interest and to make sure that I don't abandon the plog even for one day.[img]

In the spirit of Throwback Thursday then I have decided to present my first black templars I uploaded onto DakkaDakka, hopefully there has been some improvements since then!

Obviously I've just messed this up and cannot work pictures that already exist on Dakka, my bad. So instead I shall link to my earlier thread

If you have a digital camera, you can set it to "macro" which will focus on closer stuff easier and better. Set it to autofocus, too.

Thanks for the advice re photography Warboss_Waaazag

Armed with some more things to try with my camera I have decided to upload some more pictures. I got distracted while rummaging around my collection of space marine bitz and I got inspired to make a marine wielding a bolter and bot pistol simultaneously.

Things started to happen and I realised this was not very Templary so he became a Consecrator. I had great fun and I love the colour scheme, although the chapter badge is a pita!

He will probably end up playing alongside my Dark Angels when I possibly paint up one marine for all their successor chapters. He wouldn't fit with my paint scheme test squads of battle for macragge marines painted all different chapters as having read the fluff the Consecrators are grumpy and perhaps even dodgydoge.

Hope the pictures are mildly interesting.

So I know its been a while, well a couple of days, but life and work have got in the way. Which is a pita but does happen occasionally.

Got some more pictures as I've finished the squad that I'm doing for the monthly competition. I'm really pleased with these guys given the time that I've spent on them and also considering that they've achieved their primary objective of motivating me to the extent of doing some painting and starting a plog. Well hooray for them, and I've also managed to get some comments on them.

So I guess I'll leave it to the pictures. C&C would be most welcome, and I'm sure there is stuff that you might want to tell me to do, ask me about, point out, advise etc.

Cheers
