Based on the releases for April and May there are a few surprises for Brown Water Navy, (I wasn't expecting Navy SEALS). Overall, I think the releases demonstrate that the book will be heavily focused on riverine combat. My big question is whether VC Local Forces will get a list in the book based on the "Giap's Guerrillas" release (needing to duplicate many special rules, etc. in the first book), or if the release is just to support the already available PDF.

Mez

  • VUSBX11 Kelley's Heroes (US Riverine Army Deal)

  • FW903A Mekong Delta River Mat Set (3 x 6'x4' mats)

  • VPABX13 Giap's Guerrillas (Local Forces Army Deal)

  • VUSBX13 Monitor (with ATC(F) Zippo and CCB Monitor options)

  • BB187 Jungle Bushes (x6)

  • FW903B River Mat - Reverse S Bend (Direct Only)

  • VAC02 A-4E Skyhawk

  • VUSBX14 ATC(H) (Armored Troop Carrier, Helicopter)

  • VSO112 ATC Tent (Armored Troop Carrier plug-in for VUSBX14) (Special Order)

  • VUS782 Navy Seals

  • VUSBX15 ASPB (Assault Support Patrol Boat)

  • VUSBX12 PBR (Patrol Boat, River) (x2)

Some tidbits from the BF forums:

The seals can represented by up to three small stands purchased as a unit. They have several special rules which I do not remember at this point. I was more focused on the core company and how hits on the Monitors and gun boats were to be handled.

Brown Water Navy explicitly references Tour of Duty for some of it rules.

They are in fact VC local and Main Force with a new painting guide, black PJs or Green. Don't remember much of anything else as I was pressed for time and it's been a couple weeks. I don't recall if we get a Sapper Battalion or not.

The FoW website should have a list of April releases up on Thursday. And I suspect that a Brown Water Navy preview will go up at the same time.

Actually it will most likely be a week from Thursday. That month's releases generally get posted with the first update in that month.

And a week from Thursday is now tomorrow.

    ^_^

Hopefully they'll have a nice preview posted on the website tomorrow.

It will most likely go up late tonight (around 10-11 PM EDT).

    Yeah.

Though depending on whether they still have the "issue" (that no one minded...) that allowed people to pull up articles before they were officially unveiled, it might be spotted earlier than that.

The new articles usually show up in the 'Recent Articles' list found on the right side of the home page beneath the links to the various landing pages and the 'Latest News' box a couple of hours before the page is actually updated.

The preview's up. But there are no pictures of the force org charts inside the book.

However, four lists are already up on Forces of War - two ARVN river lists (rangers and marines, iirc), a US river list, and a VC list. Four lists is pretty small for a book (off-hand, I can't think of any books prior to this that have only had four lists; the Orsha book was the previous low with five lists, iirc), so I don't know whether that's the entirety of what will be available.

Unfortunately, the April release schedule hasn't been posted on the site yet.

There was also an announcement on FoW site about a new iOS-app only "book" that will contain the unique rules for the Vietnam-era.

Edit - I've learned that there are apparently only *two* lists in the hard copy of the book - the US list and the VC list. Both of the ARVN lists are digital-only.

that book sounds pretty disappointing, BF got me so excited with their release line-up for 2015 but this buy a book buy the other half digital crap is really pissing me off.

BF needs to really take their head out of their butts and stop this day 1 DLC garbage. I will not buy digital only lists, and frankly stuff like this makes me want to spend less money with them.

I would think that the book will have to contain lots of special rules about boats and fighting on rivers. It makes sense to me that it would contain less lists then, and aren't the number of options in a list more important than the list itself?

Thirdly for me, I would rather make my lists online and then print them rather than writing them out of the book, but I understand why people have issues with DLC. I just think in this case we are going to be well compensated with special rules and new scenarios.

Considering the previous Nam book had tons of pages with Nam special rules, terrain guides and missions while still having room for 15+ lists. I think this new book is garbage with only two lists. I'll glady give BF the two bucks for those lists on forces, but I will not spend the amont they demand for a half-finished book.

Looks like the prices are up on The Warstore. Prices for the ships aren't as bad as I feared they would be. The monitor and ATC (H) are $37 USD each, and the ASPB is $30 USD. For May you'll also see the A-4E Skyhawk and Navy SEALs, along with 7.5cm PaK 40 platoon, plastic Cromwells and several paint releases including brushes and spraypaints. June has a lot of Soviet plastics (Strelkovy, ZIS 2/3 and 122/152mm batteries) and the Waffentrager.

According to Battlefront's State of the Union article, Berlin is slated to drop in June.

Still no April release list on the front page of the web site. And the only Thursday left in the month is the last day.

What in the world is going on?

They did just release the railway cars for Nachtjäger which were due back in March. Unless it has something to do with the Dust Kickstarter debacle I really have no idea.

In a van down by the river

Could it be they finally noticed that there was an immense lag between when they were putting stuff up as "released" and when it was actually "something someone could buy in most of the world"?

If they simply stopped putting up "releases" for a month and then picked up where they left off with what they were actually shipping now as "May releases", that would actually work out pretty well without really changing any other parts of the operation at all other than to slow shipments to more local markets (which isn't particularly onerous). Then when they post that these things are "released" in May it would be in UK and US shops a week or two later, which likely would really help sales much more. I noticed that BF seemed put out by the nearly two month lag between the Jagdpanther spotlight and when it was something available at retail, so perhaps that prompted a bit of introspection?

I'm giving BF way too much credit in all likelihood, but we'll find out soon enough if Vietnam is the "May" releases and they're in stores shortly after they're listed.

The longer they take the more likely I am to get distracted by something else especially if I can't get a accurate release date/or trust it and have to check every week.

In late March I was pretty keen on getting a VC army but now my club looks like they might get into Samurai and Warlord have those new plastic Germans that need a new home.

The book is in stores now. I picked up a copy at my FLGS last night. Haven't had a chance to look through it yet, though, so I can't comment on the contents.

The book is a bit on the thin side. The page count that I mentioned above appears to be accurate.

Still no April Releases list on the main site, which is very odd, imo.

This is going to be a good year for my 15mm collection. Looking forward to plastic soviet infantry soon as Battlefront's infantry are top of the line.

Nam stuff looks interesting.....but Cold War stuff even more so.

edit: also glad to see BF's use of the starter box model. Should be a good gateway to historicals for the shifting gamer population.
