    General:
    Weep at ludicrous backlog.
Don't start any more fething projects.

Double-Dakka (jet): - "Da Red Barrun"
From the moment I saw the box, I decided to make a "biplane" from a Dakkajet, because more wings and more dakka can only be more better.
Actually, it's because my other half is a huge fan of Manfred Von Richthofen, and by osmosis I became quite interested. And of course, it's an excellent excuse for a red plane.
I hope to make a yellow Lothar plane some day but I will be very glad to see the back of this work.

So far this has been primed (white), airbrushed (yellow) and then airbrushed red, washed, red.
Brighter red, etc. Hand painting everything comes next but I'm swinging back and forth on projects. Started fitting some Zinge rivets to hide my appalling putty work.

If anyone has some tips for the order to do decals/markings/scrapes and such, I'm all ears as I've never done a large flat panelled model before.

Some kind of bomber: - "If I paint it purple, is it a 'stealth jet'?"
    "That needs wings."
"No, it needs bigger jets ."

Basically I hate kit/figure waste, so I rummaged until I found a Star Wars ship (sebulba's racer) that was broken, hacksawed the engines, build the end caps out of pudding pots and a Zinge mould that has a propeller on it. Then I rammed a pencil through the fuselage, and wadded the entire thing together with Milliput and braced it. The "plating" is electrical tape that you won't really see later due to the weapons system. the cabling is an afternoon with an old bag of extension cables. I will be adding more I primed it once because it was so many different colours that I couldn't work out what i was looking at. I will prime again after.
The best part about this is that there is a tiny door in the side that opens. I haven't decided what is going in there, yet.

Also you may have noticed there are no bombs, or delivery system. I'm working on a magnetised system.

(For the record, I'm also working on very straight* Imperial Guard figures, but let out all of my inability to leave things alone with the Orks)
    *Matter of opinion.

Cheers fella(?), I'm having a ball with them. Whenever I have ten minutes I just weld another cable into the bomber.
Tomorrow I will be adding magnetic panelling under the supports that hold the engines, and sorting out the chained bombs. I could leave them on, but storage, breakage, etc.
That grot was an evening in itself, as its a warbike boss pole grot, I drilled it out by hand until it would take the chain correctly. There's not a lot of hand to begin with and I only had one, so it was a pretty stupid idea that paid off.

I have Baddruk's Flash Gitz, ammo runts, painboy and a grit herd to finish up, and after some advice on army lists, and a little padding, that'll be my Orks for a while.
I'm facing some flack for not doing them green per se.

I'm hopefully receiving my new "baby" tomorrow, a smashed up Aquila Lander... I may get distracted for the day by the TLC it requires.

Gah! You have the high award of being the reason I can no longer show this thread to the afore-mentioned other half. Very well done.

I've been told repeatedly that these are X and Y Wing Dakkas. *sigh*
I'll level with you, I just don't have the aptitude to make a parallel winged Dakkajet. I originally wanted to fuse two DJ together, one above the other, with scaffolding and two fuselages, but it would have been such a ludicrously top heavy model on a flight-stand that I backed out.
Another idea was a Blohm and Voss style combo on the bomber, one engine being a jet, the other a propeller, but again it suffered from perilous balancing.
If you haven't guessed by now, I'm very conscious of crushing models (mostly other people's).. "Buttery" doesn't quite cover my level of clumsy.

The other crit these face is that they would have to launch in a Star Fury manner, as the skids can't touch the ground. I work on the basis they won't have to deal with landing safely, however.

Thanks! It warms my sooty heart to see some love for the Orks. I've been throwing myself into this week because it has been, for lack of a better word, dark. I don't want too much time to think about things, so tinkering is perfect.

I'm also working on Commissar Yorkie, in what can only be described as a "very divisive" paint scheme.
I'm not happy with the front of the model yet, so here's a rough idea.

I like the second design there, it's actually not far off what I wanted to attempt, but knew my limitations. it's been 5-6 years since I picked up a brush in anger.

What I want to finish before I take on anything else... Hoo boy, are there a lot of things I started doing.

Firstly, my Flash Gitz paint scheme! This is the first thing I've painted in several years so I'm a bit wonky.
The two core colours are going to be this flesh green and dusty purple. I've been told that this green is blue, and I'm very sorry.

Commissar Yorkie: Do not accept Ice-Cream from this man. It is probably not going to end well.
Okay, when I picked this figure up, I honestly didn't know that Commissars always have a black uniform. I thought that the commissar on the packet just had a black coat, and that in general, they just wore what they wanted. I thought colours were open to interpretation, and as my Mordians are going to have ice white and blue uniforms with purple piping (because Iron Guard don't give an Iron Feth)... I gave my Commissar an even brighter colour set. I also kinda kicked against black is the blackest thing, wanting to prove that white and silver can be just as suave. Not sure that really worked out in my favour here.
Anyway, that is why I have a Commissar that has been very unkindly labelled "Yorkie" by my friends. UK folks may realise quite how un-PC that is. He shall take the smirks from their faces.

He's about 2/3 done. I want to re-work his shirt because the gold and blue simply don't work together, and I'm going to try a codex grey/ faux NMM on the sword.
Massive thanks to Iacton from CMON who happened to be playing the little Drop Assault game on iPhone when I was whining that I couldn't get the white to work, and told me to plop some purple in the mix.

    ~

Speaking of Commissars... I spied the little fellow with the book on eBay, and he tickled me so deeply that I had to have him and do something ridiculous. He came with a group of friends, and they're all so adorably short and lanky that I've decided instead to make a teenage Commissar Cadet squad, and run them as plain IG infantry. I'm now on the prowl for some buddies for them. I love how there's basically no continuity between their uniforms. Skull skull skull, BIG SKULL, bird, sandals. Yes, the dude with the book has sandals on as far as I can tell. I'm going to paint them as boots because even I'm not that warped.

Because I'm a soft-hearted feth, I ended up buying a second LOOK AT MY BOOK. MY BOOK IS AMAZING." figure for the original stupid idea (a commissar in a chef's hat holding up his cookbook/codex for a group of irritable IG being forced to work in a make-shift kitchen).

    ~

I am absolutely not going to dick about with this though. Look at my this.
Gaunt, Corbec and half a corpse!
Alright I'm going to dick about a little bit and magnetise Gaunt and Corbec's feet so they can be put back on the diorama or used as figures on the table. But no stupid colours, no conversions, just honest painting.

Gaunt has a really weirdly shaped head. His nose is paper-thin, though it doesn't show quite how bad it is, here. I'm like 90% sure you're not meant to view him from the front. Ever. Legit concerned about trying to paint that.

Okay finally something that isn't Commissars. It's... Tanith!

    No, I'm joking, it's a Sigvald.

Sigvald is in for some touching-up. No not like that. This was my fourth of fifth figure I ever painted, I found him today and realised that I never actually painted his front cloth, I want to sort that sword out and matt down his armour.

Oh and I found this old thing at the same time, so it's also time to give it a little tidy up.

Thank you! The jets are pretty much a constant WIP (well the twin-engine is anyway) that I add a little to every time I am at a loose end. A lot of bits and pieces from my friend's work in circuit building are ending up on there.

I love Sigvald, purely because of his name. This one originally had a rainbow pack of Chaos Warhounds that I painted in incredibly gaudy primary colours. I don't know why. I was 18, and I wanted a rainbow of dogs. I still have them, but quite frankly I neither like Chaos nor know how to play Warhammer, so it's not one of my most easily followed decisions.

Yorkie? It started because his trim is "Cadbury Purple" and went downhill from there. "Yorkie" is a a huge, chunky chocolate bar that was for at least a decade marketed over here as "Not for girls." as part of a humorous campaign. They did pink wrapped versions now and then that were "allowed" to be purchased by women. And one specifically for the military. It's really, really good chocolate for hiking.
It's one of those inexplicable cultural things that if you explain it, it sounds really quite bad. Like we have a soft drink here called Iron Bru, you may have heard of, it uses the the slogan "Made from girders." there's no real reason for that either.
Aaanyway, I genuinely don't care what side he butters his bread on. I do need to finish him up though, and get him off my bookcase.
Things just become slightly more confusing due to the fact my pseudonym is Yorke. So there's (Buttery) Commissar Yorke and this pretty little Commissar Yorkie.

    ~

Hookay, settling down to do some actual work, and chew down the project list. Today I gathered up my Tanith ready to start doing something. My thoughts on how to deal with their cloaks are here. I've been blending some grass tones specifically for them, and will be snaffling some modrock (plaster bandage) on Monday. Hopefully by Friday I might get to test something.

Very unexciting stripped model pic. These were originally primed, painted and primed again, so it was like peeling bandages off a mummy to get to see the features. Three cheers for Estasol.
    Spoiler:

Plus here's a hand full of Catachan snipers that I'll be adding in, and cloaking, along with a Vox Officer, it's a shame they're all so freakishly tall in comparison to the wee Tanith.
I also banged in Hero as a spare-but-unflashy generic Commissar. He just needs better friends than the ones in his own box set. I'll be seeking out an Ox as a Bragg base.
I'm building a Tanith standard bearer because why the feth not. If nothing else he can sit it on my hat at events to stop people trying it on, and stop people picking up my Aquila due to the terribly rickety repair.
Eventually decided against using the diorama Corbec because it is terrible, but will be subbing in diorama Gaunt now and then.
    Spoiler:

Yeah, that's a lot of lasguns. Roughly 30 before we get onto the character set. And I'm guessing variety is the spice of life. Unfortunately I am not about to take a blade to these little guys, so they're gonna have to make friends with people with better weapons, AKA the Mordian half of the army.
Making them look varied and unified is going to be fun. Thinking tats, piercings, hair and skin colours but I'm too squeamish to headswap.

All Tanith bar one and the 2nd Gaunt are now primed in grey (so exciting that I forgot to photograph it), and I'm starting the delightful process of painting their uniforms black.
I took them to my parents' house to get the painting done, and should have known better. One of the Catachans is now named "Jesus" by my father, in a bewildering and absolutely inexplicable conversation, and my mother has learned the word "Grot" (she likes them) and "Commissar" ("Morale officers? Does that mean they help make people cheerful?").

Next step is sorting them by skin tone and then hair colour, a mild distraction before going back to all the identical parts (cloaks, guns, bases). A store in town sells Vallejo flesh tone sets, so I may pop down tomorrow and have a look.

My sympathies. It absolutely sucks when you miss out on something like that (I was unemployed when many amazing ranges were released, so I know the yearning).
I'm not trying to brag (maybe I should) but I snagged the initial thirty in one go, at just over £3 each last month. I am absolutely aware that this is insane.

They make Iron Bru chew-bars here, they're basically the most addictive substance ever because they are Iron Bru you can roll up and stuff in your mouth.
Find some. Plait them into a rope, chew to victory!

I'm not sure if I condone Commissar abuse, I may have to report you to the NSPCC(ommissars).

In his defense, Commissar Yorkie will be accompanied by Mordians, so any attempt at stealth and guile would be absolutely pointless.

God-Emperor on a pogo stick, Buttery actually painted something.

I hand mixed those greens due to only owning green ink, which was probably a bad idea because after being punched in the face as a kid, I can't tell greens or browns apart. You may now understand why i have blue orks. It is because I can see them well enough to shade.
Judge Minty. Due to accidents, I own three copies of this guy, so some day I'll go back and have another go. Needs re-varnishing when I can borrow some.

Also! I've been working on something other than figure painting lately, but as it's crafty AND roughly themed to my Mordian army, I'll bang it in here rather than its own thread.

Here's some parts of the NPC character diary for Mouse and his "friend", Commissar Yorke.
It's actually a player handout of highly damning Inquisitorial evidence for my RPG group. Because if something worth doing, it's worth doing weirdly.

You can see approximately where the child I bribed to help with this book lost interest and I had to forge the handwriting.
Hint: Commissar Yorke is supposed to be saying "The Emporer!" and not "Jake are you listening?"

These are technically spoilers for the accompanying story that I'm writing, but they're fairly unfathomable out of context.

My fave is a tie between sadface-stabbissar and the skull.

Thank you! I've really been enjoying it, it opened a vein that I was completely unaware of.

    It's on the right:

Call of Cthulhu log of an overly curious priest is on the left, and that is physically unpleasant to put your hand to, I glued sand and flung all sorts of gak over that thing.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't show you the funnier contents because it's so old that I can't remember which parts are part of the adventure, and which parts are the character being gak-the-bath loco.
One page just says ("...Centipedes"?) which I'm sure had some meaning at one point.

Cat & Mouse's book is less foul, but will end up looking like it was retrieved from the jungle (forcibly or not depends on how well things go) and left on a desk.

At first, I started writing a short story to accompany the stabbing picture, part of a log for the players to use.
The Commissar decided that was boring, and he started writing more bits and pieces. It extended out to being an NPC's viewpoint of the ongoing campaign, with a lot of behind the scenes things that players will likely never know or care about. I love making character diaries, so making one as a casual observer and occasional victim of their investigation was not so different.

Then... backstory happened, and future-story, and it's now a 68k word (and growing) Imperial Guard story with the middle section missing because the players haven't run all of the campaign yet. Quite honestly the only thing set in stone is that some of the NPCs don't die early on.
What I'll do with it (because it can no longer be pasted into the little green book) I'm really not sure. I might share it online and then print-on-demand a copy in a plain black cover so I can have a go at binding it up.

That is amazing man. For me it was creating monsters/creatures for my group to fight, my favorite one was a tall shambling creature that the group tried to kill with incendiary grenades only to set themselves on fire

Wow! I'm really not sure I want to know how they managed to do that. Player feth ups are the best (usually).

I've actually had to kick one entire group of players from playing Only War with me because they tortured the above Commissar to such an extent that he had an actual nervous breakdown. They actually inflicted insanity points and trauma on their own friendly NPC.
Purely because he made them scrub toilets for being ridiculously late to their own briefing and then trying to flirt with him.

I wrote down what happened for future inspection when I eventually feel less angry with them.

A combination of standing too close and a terrible throw/roll. Wow I have never heard that happening before, only thing close was in only war when I was playing a death korp commissar and I role played it as a real krieger. Long story short my character was not well liked by the NPCs.

    Abridged from the text file:
After ascertaining he has an aversion to servitors, the players locked an extremely drunken, drugged, but quite friendly Commissar (unarmed), and their almost comatose drunk Captain (also unarmed) in a small room, after sending in spare servitor. One that they had manipulated their local gearhead into modifying ever-so-slightly.
"Clicky" the servitor was programmed by request to "move erratically", which upon questioning the players meant, "...very helpful, but with lots of weird jerky movements and no personal space boundaries".

    For ninety minutes.

At 30 mins in-game I upped the effect due to the poor bastard probably being mentally exhausted. Before rolling I decided not to stack any possible Insanity gains, just pick one if it happened.
Being a Commissar the NPC did get Unshakeable Faith - Willpower re-rolls. Unfortunately one of his re-rolls went from a simple 2 degree fail to the resulting roll taking him off the bottom of the fear table, earning Insanity and flying the flag into Unsettled, and a Trauma roll.
At this point I skip the last 30 minutes, and call it, because short of actively vomiting on himself, there's very little left to go wrong.

The PCs return to find the captain sat on a chair, calmly staring into space, the servitor sitting in the corner facing the wall, and the Commissar curled up in a ball under a nearby desk with his hands over his head, unresponsive.

I had 'em the players shot by the captain for being sadistic pricks.

We tried a second adventure where I sent a top-brass to inspect the regiment, accompanied by a Lord Commissar, to put the fear of the Emperor into them. they were to prove themselves competent, and capable of typical duties.
They responded by successfully getting to the end of the mission, and then murdering both new NPCs in the hospital room of the original Commissar (who had "accidentally" caught a lasrifle shot and lost his entire arm), they then planted the gun on the unconscious NPC and fled the scene.

And that is how you get yourself ejected from my campaign.

Nice work. I can only assume that "Mouse" is an Ogryn? Or maybe a Gretchin from that second-last picture?
