Hi,
I am back. If you want to know what I was doing, PM me.
I have a few questions about hive tyrants.
1. Why are Hive tyrants with wings called Flyrants?
2. How are hive tyrants and tyranid primes different in 7th?
3. How tall are they with and without wings?
4. Are they complete failures like the prime?
Thanks.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

1. Flying Hive Tyrant = Flyrant. Nothing more to it.

2. Hive Tyrants are level 2 Psykers, have more wounds, better stat lines, the option to take wings and heavy weapons, can take e-grubs for a haywire template, and are MCs. And cost only marginally more than Primes. So, all around better in every way. The only thing the Prime has that makes it stand out is that it is an Independent Character, and that trait is only worth it in a horde list, which is currently generally agreed to be the worst way to play the 7 ed Nid Codex.

3. With wings, about 7". Without, about 4-5".

4. No, not at all. Walking Tyrants are on the weaker side, but the Flyrant is the best unit in the entire Codex by a long mile.

1. It's easier to say that "Hive Tyrant with Wings"
2. Hive Tyrants are just as bad. Flyrants are ~10 times better.
3. 5-6 inches tall.
4. The only HQ any Tyranid player should ever take is 2 Flyrants with double devourers and Electro grubs. They are borderline OP.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

False. Take a Hive Fleet detachment, take 3 Flyrants and enjoy the sweet, sweet tears of your enemies.

A detachment... From a hive fleet...

It's a detachment from Death storm that has 3 HQ slots.

Actually it's from the Leviathan book in the Shield of Baal campaign series. Definitely worth picking up if you're a nid player.
