What kind of ogre list do you want to play? In competitive terms their really are only 2 kinds of lists: gunline and gutstar.

Now what i see here is you have a slight mix of both. There is nothing wrong with this list as it sits if you are just going to play some pick up games at the LFGS but if you dont want to have your pecker pushed in by a decent list, their are changes to be made.

Here is an example of a decent gunline list. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/638161.page

below is what I prefer to run and its a gutstar all about points denial and buffing regular troops. Some may say this list wont work but it does in illinois.....

Lords

Slaughtermaster Lvl 4 Lore of the maw. Crown of command, armor of destiny(magic items i use varies here)

Heros

Butcher lvl 1 beasts dispel scroll

Bruiser bsb HA Talisman of preservation charm shield

Core

Gnoblars x10 trappers

Gnoblars x10

Ironguts x10 FC standard of discipline BSB and SM here

I am just looking for an all rounder list tbh. Im not too concerned about ultra-competitive because I will only be playing, as you said, the odd pick up game or casual games with friends.

Ill bare this in mind though.

Both of those lists are realtively capable of handling most things. Right now the gunline seems to be a little better as it has the ability do almost point and click delete MSU units off the table with 6d6 str 4 shots.

Those are just 2 examples of ogre lists take from them what you want and adjust yours to how you want to play. Worst thing that happens is you lose a game but hey you got to play some warhammer.........

So Diggs, how about some thoughts on the list you posted?

First, buy all your special choices musicians. Next, combine those mournfangs together, and maybe drop the fourth one ... because what your list really needs is a BSB! This was IMO the change with 8E that made Ogres playable again, being able to reroll LD tests!

How to pay for the dude? Bruiser BSB w/ gw is probably as stripped down as you can get, and that guy costs 141 points, so time to mine points: 4th mournfang, 2nd level on firebelly, gw on the firebelly, grut's sickle, and maybe we start cutting into the ogres if need be.

Myself, I'd probably do 9 ogres and 6 ironguts, giving a lot of versatility for where you shove your characters - basically gutstar, ogrestar or mixed deployment depending on nastiness of enemy units.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

I would combine the Mournfang into a single unit and try to get a Musician and a Banner, and give them the Dragonhide banner.

That will get you a unit that can actually destroy enemy blocks and not just damage them.

Question about ranks and command guys. Say I ran the bulls in a rank of 3 (9 guys maybe) but had full command + the slaughtermaster. Would the slaughtermaster have to sit in the 2nd rank? If so, would that be a problem at all?

EDIT:

OK so I have jiggled the list around a bit. Got to a point where I had to either drop down the ogres or drop a unit of leadbelchers. I decided I would prefer to keep the belchers and run with a basic core. So here is the list as it stands now:

Lords
Slaughtermaster - WL4, Great Weapon, Grut's Sickle, Talisman of Preservation, Lore of the Great Maw

Heroes
Firebelly - WL1, Dispell Scroll, Lore of Fire
Bruiser - BSB, Heavy Armor, Ironfist

Core
Ogre Bulls x 6 - Ironfists, Full Command
Ironguts x 6 - Full Command

Special
Leadbelchers x 4 - Bellower
Leadbelchers x 4 - Bellower
Mournfang Cavalry x 3 - Heavy Armour, Ironfists, Bellower, Standard Bearer with Dragonhide Banner

Rare
Ironblaster

Seriously, as an Ogre player who suffered through 7E, you really want that Bruiser BSB. At 2000 points he's WAY more useful than that Firebelly is! And once you drop Grut's Sickle to pay for the leadbelchers' bellowers, you can just move the dispel scroll up to the Slaughtermaster. Because those musicians are WAY more useful than that Sickle is.

Seriously

Sorry I'm an idiot, I did actually but a BSB in, that was the whole point of the change! And the bellowers for the Leadbelchers.

Fixed

You know, I wondered where all your points went

Also as to your question about command options, you are correct, unit command must be in the front rank, pushing characters to the second rank if there's no room for them in the first.

This adds greatly to the power of the gutstar (or whatever you shove all your characters into), as you can use shenanigans to either hide your characters from return attaks - have them reach over the front rank of ogres to swat at the enemy with their three support attaks, without being targetable in return - or push them up to block out the enemy from generating significant CR. This all works because, while your characters are pushed to the second rank when cruising around, in combat you have the option of making way if and where you want with characters. Often this means that your super-tanky T5 4+ ward (or whatever) characters step up to the corners of the unit, leaving just the champ in the middle. The enemy has to allocate all attaks, often resulting in a dead champ (3W generated) and next to nothing against the wall of blubbery characters. Then the ironguts (+ BSB often) behind the front rank of ogres rips into the enemy with supporting attaks, not to mention your frontline characters, generating a buttload of CR (and killing gak!), which often breaks whatever the gutstar is fighting.

So, shenanigans. Combined with 8E's general bonuses to deathstar builds (VP denial and so on), this creates a style of play that many, many, many ogre armies inevitably gravitate towards. For better or worse.
