Hey -

So I dont know what Im doing but here is 1,500 Mono Nurgle Daemons - I plan to play roughly the same list for 40k.

The concept is -

Fat Blob Shats out P suns like there is no tomorrow - Plague Bearers with Herald Become a rocksolid block (rank guidance appreciated) and the Beasts Flank Crush / engage the other strong unit and GUO Flank Crushes.

Would this stand up against a a non-comp but varied and strong local meta?

+ Lords (555pts) +

Great Unclean One (555pts) [Greater Gifts, Lesser Gifts, Lore of Death, Wizard Level 4]

+ Heroes (160pts) +

Herald of Nurgle (160pts) [Battle Standard Bearer, Greater Locus of Fecundity]

+ Core (407pts) +

Plaguebearers of Nurgle (407pts) [Champion, Musician, 29x Plaguebearer of Nurgle, Standard Bearer]

+ Special (360pts) +

Beasts of Nurgle (360pts) [6x Beast of Nurgle]

: 1000+
: 1000+
1500+ (they didnt have one for Bretonnians)
Also + BFG Fleets
Oh and now

For the exalted and lesser gifts I would almost always default to the eternal blade and Always Strikes First sword out of the BrB. You can swing with the ASF sword and the eternal blade's +d3 to all offensive combat stats always applies as per the FAQ.

In some rare cases when I roll an extra lesser gift from the exalted or roll ASF (6) on the lesser I change this up. Also sometimes if I get the Aura of Disruption on the exalted then I stick with that. Dispelling magic is key with this army because you are full of low Initiative models. If you are afraid of the Reign of Chaos table then you can take the reroll winds exalted gift.

For the Herald of Nurgle others on Dakka have recommended me to take a greater gift on him and swap out for Fencer's Blades (WS10). By doing this you guarantee rank and file will have to hit you on 6s and every big baddie in the game will hit you on 5s due to -1 to hit. This has now become a staple and has won me games outright. Before my herald was getting murdered and now he is able to survive and increase my combat resolution.

For the block of plaguebearers run them in horde formation 10 wide.

For the beasts of nurgle I would run 2 of the beasts solo as chaff, anti-chaff, and redirectors. They tend to win outright against all chaff and cost the same as them. They can also strike ethereal chaff obviously as all daemons can. This makes them insanely good against those armies that deploy these tactics. You may not like this idea but it is extremely important and probably the most important thing that I have written on here because your Great Unclean One NEEDS A BEAST OF NURGLE to charge with him otherwise the inevitable challenge will come and slow down your monstrous assault. With one beast whether or not hes in base contact he can accept the challenge and your opponent can start to cry at this point.

From there you can either run a block of 4 beasts of nurgle 4 wide or remove 1 beast of nurgle to pay for those fencer's blades and add plaguebearers.

Also your list is awesome BTW.

Pbakes, thank you for your high quality analysis and guidance.

My Current list I have amended as below.

+ Lords (580pts) +

Great Unclean One (580pts) [Exalted Gifts, Lesser Gifts, Lore of Death, Wizard Level 4] - ++Subbing Gift Roles for Eternal Blade for +d3 attacks and the ASF Sword of Swift Slaying unless Aura of Disruption roll to taste ++ (as an aside I read this as 5A base +1A for 2 specialist weapons +d3A for a total possible of 9A right? cos thats pretty filthy)

+ Heroes (210pts) +

Herald of Nurgle (210pts) [Battle Standard Bearer, Greater Gifts, Greater Locus of Fecundity] - ++ Subbing fencers blades for WS10 - a trick I remember to try and make my Bret BSB less killable - Will keep things close to him to stop double 6 death roles ++

+ Core (407pts) +

Plaguebearers of Nurgle (407pts) [Champion, Musician, 29x Plaguebearer of Nurgle, Standard Bearer] - ++ 10 wide hordes - is this because my killing ability is preference over my rank bonus / steadfast removal - that said - with 29 attacks in horde maybe I'll just kill enough to remove steadfast - or at least convince people to die on turn 2 when my beast / GUO will be flank attacking.... against 5 wide opponents I suppose my damage output is 21, but thats still pretty good +++

+ Special (300pts) +

Beasts of Nurgle (180pts) [3x Beast of Nurgle] (main 3rd Unit)

Beasts of Nurgle (60pts) [Beast of Nurgle] (GUO challenge accepting friend - I liked your idea and it made good sense)

Beasts of Nurgle (60pts) [Beast of Nurgle] (Chaff Eater)

: 1000+
: 1000+
1500+ (they didnt have one for Bretonnians)
Also + BFG Fleets

I actually think you're best left running this 6-wide most times, then adding files if you really want to grind. 6-wide gives a decent number of attaks (12+) while maintaining ranks, which often are more important, since the plaguers are meant to lock down their opponent until the GUO / beasts can flank in for all the Nurgley cuddles.

^ This is doubly so as you've taken the locus of regen. I often run into heralds with the locus of 5+ poison, which is a bit more conducive to bearers killing things, rather than bearers sticking around.

On the list itself, all looks good to me!

Yep you read that right WallofMeat a possible total of 9 attacks haha awesome.

That is great advice Salvage I guess it depends on how you like to play the plaguebearers. I've never thought of running them 6 wide. I think I have had VERY good luck with the horde formation so I may be running it that way for that reason.

Considering I have never lost my plaguebearer squad in a game of Warhammer Fantasy I always figured horde was best, however I see now that there are a ton of ways to run them effectively.

Hi Chaps,

Just one note on this - you cant have 2 magic weapons at the same time on the GUO.

Other than that, the army performs well and is fun to play - I have beefed it up to 2k (mo beasts) as per the below pic.
