... from the Flames of War forums:

SuperTaco wrote:I'm sure there's a reason, but, why not have army specific starter sets? Just a medium sized 750-1000 pt. Force for each of the major late war nations... It'd make starting this hobby far easier and honestly, more approachable. There's just so much ground work that needs to be done, just to start a collection, in my opinion...

Chris at Battlefront wrote:Hi SuperTaco,

what you are looking for is not too far away. Cannot go into any details yet but with our range of plastics increasing at a steady pace we are now in a better position to do it than ever before.

Chris

Interesting. I guess we'll see starter sets for the 'basic' company types (Armoured, Infantry, Motorised Infantry, etc.).

With the new plastics BF is making it will make the cost a lot more gamer friendly also. The previous starts at 220 or 225 dollars were steep to get into the game with but if they could release a 100 dollar starter army it would entice a lot more people to get Into the game. That's my opinion anyways

Good to know. I miss the old company boxsets, like the US 7th Armored tank company or the Panzer Lehr company.

The army box sets didn't sell very well, though, from what I've heard.

There have been starter "core" forces. But they're never advertised as such. For instance, the SS Panzergrenadier box contains not only the usual Company HQ and infantry platoons, but also HMG teams, and PaK 40s.

Figuring something out would definitely be a good move, though, if they can come up with something that players want to dive into. There will be multiple good opportunities for something like that during the coming year, with Brown Water Navy (which appears to have two army box-type releases slated), Cold War Gone Hot (which will require entirely new armies), and Pacific (same).

I wonder if they'll actually be able to get them to stores.

As BF has plastic infantry , APCs and tanks for USA, German and Commonwealth countries.
And Tanks and Tank destroyers for Soviets.
With the addition of ,(much needed IMO ),plastic soviet infantry.
They would have the ability to do all plastic starter armies for the main 4 factions.

From On Military Matters via The Miniatures Page:

Ramsch's Charge - Twelve vehicles and 48 figures for WWII German forces. $100.00 USD
Vasily's Hammer - Twelve vehicles and 48 figures for WWII Soviet forces. $100.00 USD

1-208230 FLAMES OF WAR: Ramsch's Charge Contains 12 vehicles and 48 figures for German Forces. This specific company can be fielded by using the FOW 'Grey Wolf' publication which also includes detailed platoon options, historical background, and inspirational photographs.1 vol, 12 pgs 2015 UK, BATTLEFRONT USA

1-208240 FLAMES OF WAR: Vasily's Hammer Contains 12 vehicles and 48 figures for Soviet Forces. This specific company can be fielded by using the FOW 'Desperate Measure' publication which also includes detailed platoon options, historical background, and inspirational photographs.1 vol, 12 pgs 2015 UK, BATTLEFRONT USA

$100 US isn't a bad price, considering you would normally be paying $90 US for just ten vehicles (two plastic kits). Note these starters have been confirmed to be all plastic.

I'm concerned that the description for Vasily's hammer is incorrect. Looking at the picture of the box art from OMM, it's 13 vehicles and no infantry.

Yeah, that's been mentioned on the Flames of War forums Probably a copy and paste error in the preorder email to the retailer. I guess we'll find out more details in the coming weeks

Ok, And I thought I might not get the panzerkompanie, but that's a perfect compliment for my Germans - I need another full Panzer IV platoon, another StuG platoon, and a Panzergrenadier platoon never hurts.

That and the other two army boxes pictured look really nice. Cool stuff.

And that is always the $64 question with BF. Getting the stock in stores AND keeping it, if it does actually sell decently*.

*See also Battlefield in a Box forests, buildings and the original Open Fire set. In fact, one guy argues on the BF forums that veteran players shouldn't buy Open Fire sets because they prevented newbies from seeing them/buying them (instead of, you know, the supply chain working and bought stuff being replaced in timely restock).

Nice,I like all of the sets so far. I wonder what we will get for the British kit? Comets,Cromwells or Shermans ,since most of the sets seem to be more geared towards armor.
I do like the fact that they remind me of the old GW 40k battleforce sets from back in the day.

If that box had plastic easy 8's and jumbos instead of Pershings I would have been sorely tempted. I know they don't exist yet but I was hoping.....

I think these boxes are a great idea.

Anyone able to do a price comparison with PSC on these? I think they can match the German one product for product. The other two are missing a couple of like for like kits AFAIK.

For 130 plastic infantry, 5 StuG's, 5 panzer 4's and 5 half tracks I make it about £77

Honestly that's a close run deal imho

I don't think the BF plastic Russian infantry is set to come out till June or so.

They put CV HQ points (205) along with RV points for the rest of the Shermans and ARP.

It should be 190pts for the HQ, not 205.

As mentioned, there is no plastic Soviet infantry currently available. Its expected in June with the Berlin Intelligence Briefing.

Why do businesses make any of the questionable decisions that they do? If we knew that, we'd be running the companies instead of them

True, true. I mean, I look at the American and Nazi starters and they are a fantastic grab bag of stuff - tanks, anti-tank, infantry and transport. Great!

And then the Russians have unthematic all-armor. Ugh.

All armor is thematic, its just "Hero" and that is more the exception to Russians. Now two of those boxes, and you have a damn interesting Desperate Measures list.

Nah. Even the Russian armor selections are really samey; had it been 2+3 T-34s, 3 SU-100s and 100+ infantry, that would have been perfect.

If they do mid war starters from the Barbarossa book I'll be all over them lol....will be waiting some time for that though. So in the mean time will grab one one of the German boxes to bulk out my latewar forces.
