Well I for one am very, very happy with the AM infantry that's coming and can't wait to see more.

The walkers not quite so much, especially at $50 a pop but maybe if I see more...

Regardless over the years a lot of other companies have taken inspiration from GW's AM art so I thought it might be interesting to throw up a thread of alternate models for those interested. Some will be cheaper than GW's, some better, some just different and interesting things to spice up an army.

I'm sure there's more out there than even I, the great and powerful gallery mod know of, so please throw in your own.

Note-I'm just linking to a few samples, there's a lot more on the various company's sites.

For the walkers and spider tanks Dust has ones that should work, at least as a basis for conversions.

Given Dust's current woes though who can be sure if they'll be available for long.

http://www.thewarstore.com/Dust.html

Hitech Miniatures has some incredible AM character models and gun servitors.

They ain't cheap but they're cool. Once we see the whole AM line I might get some of these.

http://hitechminiatures.com/2_4/product/product/
http://www.thewarstore.com/hitechminiatures.html

A small steampunk start up called Meridian Miniatures went nuts with head options and offers some that can turn any human infantry into techno cultists.

http://meridianminiatures.com/steam-and-aether/

Love the Olde Timey diving suit helmets, no use for them but I do love them.

The infantry ain't bad either

Micro Art Studio's line of Iron Brotherhood pretty much set the standard for what the AM should look like. they even have a spider tank. Maybe they should sue?

Ramshackle has a ton of crazy tanks and cyborgs to check out.

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/

And there's Robogear out of Russia. Who are, um... cheap and plastic, and well... not a bad start.

There's usually tons of kits on ebay.

http://www.robogear.ru/eng/
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xrobogear.TRS0&_nkw=robogear&ghostText=&_sacat=0

And finally there's Reaper. Because whether you're looking for Victorian Gentemen or Dwarf Weresharks, or Victorian Weresharks Reaper has it covered.

There's more of course, Anvil has some great bionics, Wyrd and Warmachine have some wonderful steampunk constructions and then there's Raging Heroes who manage to take GW's aesthetic and take it up to 12 or even 13 sometimes.

Anyone else want to throw ideas in?

Their gun tractors are good too:

Good bionics too

If we're going to look at Anvil, you can't forget these guys:

http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/Regiments/ARC

There are multiple buying options and you get to decide which of Anvil's range of guns yours come with. You can also get flamer, melta and not-plasma torsos, that you can buy separate legs for

It's so interesting looking at these models and considering the legal issues and IP protecting that GW is supposedly up to. It seems almost counterintuitive that they released admech the way that they did. I love the admech models but seeing these I would definitely like to incorporate them. I know that spider tak is gonna get a lot of sales from the dunecrawler haters. GW really did these companies a favor. I just hope theyre ready to answer the demand

Thanks everyone for the links. Can't believe that Meridian Miniatures had slipped past my radar, those miniatures look seriously cool.

Btw, I've been looking for this model for an eternity or two, but everytime I find an european retailer it seems to have gone out of stock, never to be restocked again.

I've been toying with the idea of using some of the Covenant of Antarctica models from Dystopian Legions. The scale is a little big for 40K for the basic troops, but the Automata Robots would be perfect if you wanted to add some forbidden Legio Cybernetica tech.

Also they have a yet to be unreleased Xenophon Class Small Walker.

That crab walker is sweet, and it has a groin gun!

Some other ideas came to me. An obvious low cost option is Wargames Factory's Shock Troops.

http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/alien-suns/shock-troops-sci-fi-greatcoat-troopers

Paint the coats red, use the industrial lasers and welding mask heads and you'll have some fair (and fairly cheap) Skitarii for about 1/4 of the price. They ain't great but they'll do.

And if you're into converting...

Yeah they'll do.

Miniatures of the North did these 'techno communion' guys a while back. They were a limited run but maybe if enough people ask for them?

I found this at some point and hope to eventually get one (whenever it is released, if ever)

It would make a good imposing Arch Magos or something, fix the scythes into Gear axes or something is all you would really need (or not change them at all).

I personally want to change to gear axes and find a different female head with less mask (that's just me. Id prefer the half goggles over one eye thing some have)

I can certainly recommend the MicroArt studio dudes, nice designs and good quality resin, they're not exactly "cheap" though. I have two of these to represent servitors for my IG Techpriest:

Spoiler:

They are really tall, this is a comparison with an em4 "space ranger" who is actually a bit taller than your average GW space marine.

Spoiler:

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

It looks like the Vangard/Ranger kit will NOT have enough special weapons, just one of each.

Some possible alternate sources are:

Vic's Miniatures

http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/products/weapons-and-gear?pagesize=12

And Anvil

http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/The-Armoury/Specialist-and-Energy-Weapons

The really big musket thing looks hard to replace (Anvil's rail gun looks like the best option), the Empire Handgunners, Engineer and Outriders all have a good baroque long rifle though.
