So giving CSM one last shot at a list of models that i like before giving up hehe.

Thinking this list with a few minor tweeks could be deployed as Death guard Nurgle or Emperors Children Slaanesh or Black Legion Undivided or World Eaters/Khorne. No termi's or casters so won't bother with tzeentch/1k sons for flavor.

One pattern/habit i always find myself falling into is spam/repetition of units (like for loyalists my lists would be 3x same heavy, 3x same fast attack, 4x same troops, 3x same elites). Really would like to avoid that getting back into WH40K. Really really like helbrute models/mini's and vindicators but folks tend to reply with in some context that the any list with any helbrute or any CSM vindy warrants the poster to be flogged and dunked and locked up in jail for not making a min/max'ed list intended to table all possible opponents on turn two hehe.

Anyways,

I could swap out the heldrakes for 2 mobs of 5x chaos spawns with respective marks. having more boots/claws/treads/wheels on the ground seems better but i like the heldrake model

could also swap the bikers out for full squad of spawns too on the khorne list but i like the bikers as is.

could interchange maulerfiends with vindicators if anti-horde is an issue.

Have a black crusade varient list with VotLW and chosen squads for troops but seems less beefy.

thoughts on upgrades and loadouts?

any advice, suggestions, tips, constructive criticism, input, etc is always appreciated.

thanks,

Tak

(sorry if a unit is listed in wrong spot - typing in little window is a pita)

I said that same thing 1 year ago and I still come back here to help newbies of chaos because I love wh40k but I hate the rules and the company.

I play Death Guard and you list isn't that far off from being competitive, or as competitive as CSM is right now.

Here are the changes I would make.

Drop the MoS for MoN on the Oblits. Not sure what MoS is getting them. I like MoN so they don't get slayed by bolster fire.

I would also drop the Cultists and Mutilators. The cultists seem like they are there as a filler and the mutilators fare best coming out of a LR. If you dipstick them in they are going to get shot before they can charge and they probably won't make it across the field. Make the Biker melta vise Flamers and add a combo melta ago to the champ. I would also drop one of the bikers to give you 300 extra points that I would use to add a Mayhem Pack. I personally don't like auto cannon drakes. Being BS3 they are only going to hit on 2 and only going to average 1 glancing hit on an armor 12. As for going at infantry the flamers are stand ahead better.

As for the other lists I like them but I would keep MoN on the obits as they are not going to benefit from any other mark. The MoS list is solid I5 Bikers would crush most in CC, but i would still run Meltas on them

Thanks for the replies. so if i shuffle around the Slaanesh list a lil' bit i come up with this...

Headquarters: 165 points

165 - Chaos Lord - MoS, bike, power armor, lightning claw, power fist, sigil of corruption, warlord

Troops: 719 points

222 - Noise Marines Squad
- 6x Noise Marines - sonic blaster
- 1x Noise Champion - bolt pistol, lightning claw, doom siren, melta bombs
- Chaos Rhino - dirge caster

222 - Noise Marines Squad
- 6x Noise Marines - sonic blaster
- 1x Noise Champion - bolt pistol, lightning claw, doom siren, melta bombs
- Chaos Rhino - dirge caster

275 - Noise Marines Squad
- 7x Noise Marines - bolters
- 2x Noise Marines - blastmasters
- 1x Noise Champion - bolt pistol, lightning claw, doom siren, melta bombs

Fast Attack: 538 points

198 - Chaos Bikers Squad
- 3x Chaos Bikers - 2x meltaguns, MoS
- 1x Biker Champion - lightning claw, power fist, melta bombs, MoS
- Icon of Excess

170 - Heldrake - baleflamer

170 - Heldrake - baleflamer

Heavy Support: 478 points

125 - Maulerfiend

125 - Maulerfiend

228 - Obliterators x3 - MoN

Fortifications Detachment: 100 points

100 - Aegis Defense Line - gun emplacement w/ quad-gun

Tallies up to 2000 points on the dot.

Worried having MoN on the obliterators egregiously breaks some sort of cardinal fluff rule and will instigate some sort of /gtfo.thread.flame.war will ensue by have a nurgle mark in a slaanesh / emperor's themed list hehe. message board trolls can be quite fickle obiously.

Would park the full noise marine squad behind the ADL to man it. The quad-gun, pair of blastmasters, and trio of obliterators should pump out some decent long-range damage from the back of the board or near some rear objective.

thought about trying to sneak in a helbrute with reaper autocannon and power flail to guard the ADL. i really do like the brute model but 98.7654% of the folks don't want to hear that name mentioned and desire it stricken from the annals hehe. Also think the FW emperor's children helbrute model is kick@$$ too (blaster guns to go with hit)...

Wondering if i should swap out all the lightning claws on the lord and champions to power mauls (power swords would be fluffier i think for slaanesh). maybe spear-like power weapons converted from some WHFB models just to be a little different and get some converting/kitbashing in the mix.

Dirge casters on the pair of rhinos worth it or go with a second combi-bolter for both?

I do not have the CSM codex(s) or current BRB yet (using battlescribe to help do prudent research and planning before throwing money again at GWS). will probably nab the BRB or the starter box middle of this coming month for all the goodies inside and get me itching to build and paint again if i go CSM. So yeah didn't even notice the BS on heldrakes = 3 and thanks for mentioning it.

Always appreciate feedback tips, suggestions, constructive criticism, advice, insight, etc etc

Thanks,

Tak

That's still a lot of points tied up in Heldrakes. Spawn are probably a better Fast Attack choice and would synergize well with the Maulerfiends.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

I thought about that but I think he has enough on the board he shouldn't be worried about bringing them in reserve.

As for the formations, there are a lot. GWS has posted a lot of them on the black library . I recommend looking through the forums to find ones you like because3 there are a lot of really good ones.

I do like the heldrake model but it is large and might be beyond my painting skills at the moment

anyways, so tinkered around with the list on Saturday.

wondering about this now...

Emperor's Children / Slaanesh

Headquarters: 165 points

165 - Chaos Lord - MoS, bike, power armor, power fist, lightning claw. sigil of corruption, warlord

Troops: 637 points

205 - Chaos Space Marines Squad
- 8x Chaos Marines - boltgun
- 1x Chaos Marines - autocannon
- 1x Aspiring Champion - boltgun, bp/ccw,
- Chaos Rhino
- MoS

205 - Chaos Space Marines Squad
- 8x Chaos Marines - boltgun
- 1x Chaos Marines - autocannon
- 1x Aspiring Champion - boltgun, bp/ccw,
- Chaos Rhino
- MoS

227 - Noise Marine Squad
- 5x Noise Marines - sonic blasters
- 1x Noise Marines - blastmasters
- 1x Noise Champion - combi-bolter, ccw, doom siren
- Chaos Rhino

Fast Attack: 523 points

193 - Chaos Biker Squad
- 3x Chaos Bikers - 2x melta guns
- 1x Chaos Biker Champion - lightning claw, power fist
- Icon of Excess
- MoS

165 - Chaos Spawns x5 - MoS

165 - Chaos Spawns x5 - MoS

Heavy Support: 375 points

125 - Maulerfiend

125 - Maulerfiend

125 - Maulerfiend

Formation Detachment: 300 points

300 - Mayhem Pack
- 3x Helbrutes - power fist, multi melta

comes up to 2000 points on the dot.

Love the helbrute model so the mayhem pack formation is perfect for me

swapped the 2x heldrakes out for 2x full mobs of chaos spawn to run up the board. with 3x maulerfiends, 10x chaos spawns, and 3x helbrutes getting in your face seems pretty smash mouth punchy hehe

I could swap the boltguns and autocannons on the 2x CSM squads for 2x flamers and 7x ccw/bp to be more assault'ish. the bolters and autocannons would be better to park on objectives and give some LR attacks.

my thoughts would be to run the rhino's up and pop smokers for the maulerfiends to run into or behind for some covers on my first move. or could I run the maulerfiend up first to block for the rhino and save the smokers for 2nd move when troops disgorge to cover them. guess it comes down to target priorty for the person on other side of table.

oh well, I do appreciate the feedback, tips, suggestions, advice, insight, constructive criticism, etc...

Thanks,

Tak

It is actually a really easy model to paint. I have 3 of them and am very happy with the paiting that I was able to get. If you are looking to keep ot relatively simple all you have to do to really get it looking good is base it black and then use the metalic sharpie pens. I used paint on my first one and it took 2-3 hours to paint all the gold (in the typical looking HelDrake) for my second and third I used the Silver and the Bronze Sharpie and they only took 30-45 minutes each. Throw some wash on them to give a little depth and add a little detail if you want and your done.
