I picked up the legion carry case today, and I am awed by it. As big if not bigger than the superheavy case, with four double deep foam trays with zig-zag foam inserts rather than pluck or corragated foam. Transportation is really good, from dice and tape measures to tanks and even the Knights fitting well, Weight distribution is good, and it opens on one side, rather than the middle like the old big case, which was a major bad point about it.

Well, I think these zig zag foams are quite good for fragile units which hardly fit into plunk foam like Cryx Warwitches or Baneknights.

I'll have a look at the cases in the GW central store in Hamburg next week.
Definitely buy one of the two smaller cases.

Just to back up the previous comment, I think you will be surprised when you see the size of these cases. The largest (Crusade) case looks big in the videos and pictures, but is pretty small in real life.

The skirmish case you said you are interested in, has one set of foam in it (set meaning one "base" foam, then another top layer that sits inside the first). You would struggle to get more than one Ghost Arc or flyer in this. You'd have to take out the top layer of foam, and potentially cut a few of the zig zag pieces from the lower layer so you could get the vehicle in.

Best thing I can suggest is to pop into somewhere you can see and try the cases to make sure they fit your needs.

I picked up a crusade case for some Orks I'm starting as the foam works well for infantry and bikes (Evil Sunz!), and should work well for a couple of trukks and a battlewagon.

I watched the same video. Imagine my surprise when I saw them in person.

I was in WW yesterday, and i too thought that the size was very misleading, not really big enough for my needs, somehow I thought they would be deeper than they are as well.

I will stick with making my own for now.

The cases are terrible and the foam is terrible.

Get a KR, or wait for Black Friday and get Battlefoam.

The foam was ideal for my needs, just the size of the cases all wrong for me.

Never been a fan of KR, you can pick cardboard boxes up outside any major supermarket in the UK, I have also had issues with their very poor customer service which prevent me from wanting to try the rest of the range, I also find the battle foam far too stiff for my liking.

Compared to one of these babies, yes, it's tiny. And even that 1520XL isn't enough to transport my entire Pre-Heresy Emperor's Children legion. That zigzag foam would be ok if I didn't mind my models touching each other, but I like them all separate.

Traditional foam trays sucks for transporting my calvary heavy army. You have to cut foam for the Knights and no way to get my demigriffions into most trays. Let alone my war machines.

The new gw cases look promispromising For that situation.

Can someone that's got one, measure the length/width/depth of the foam trays and post please?

Thanks.

I took at look at it yesterday, its great if you don't have any fragile or snapping problems. Unfortunately I do, so its not going to replace my tablewar magnetic case anytime soon.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Do you like your demigriffs all mashed up together on the bottom of the case? If yes, buy this case

I went from "Oh, that's very reasonable for the cost!" to seeing it in person and thinking "I could not fit my lunch in this, and I am not even all that hungry."

Major major improvement on the hinge-front from older cases, for which they have my praise. I'll leave it at that.

I only mean that's what I thought. I think it's something that grew and shrank proportionately to my expectations (hurr hurr).

Kinda killed the impulse-buy. I still threw my hard earned paper at GW this weekend, just not for this.

Oh yeah the size threw me off, but when you actually look at it in the picture it is about twice as wide as the guys waist, which seems about right in person, so it might of been a forced perspective thing in the video done on accident.

I like my case ( I picked up the medium one today). It's absolutely horrible for MCs and FMCs, but i've only got to worry about transporting a couple at a time. It's great for my infantry, and that's all I really needed it for.

See this is where i'm at. I have a lot of storage and haulage. But i don't have a single good answer for storing and hauling something like a cauldron of blood. The company that comes up with that is going to get a gakload of my money.

The issue is i have 3 sabol bags, and a lot of totes that i use to store trays of foam for all the various armies. I don't really need another infantry storage mechanism. I need something that can store large models.

So i think i'm going to scratch the crusader case off my "maybe" list.

I'm reliably informed that these cases use the same tech as the TARDIS, so don't be fooled by their small size

In all honesty, I never bothered with cases myself - I chucked my models in a box, and the amount of varnish I used to put on them protected them. Never had any chipped models.

I use cloth shopping bags to carry 3 bins at a time. They have long handles so I can 12 bins at a time. With my backpack, I make only one trip to the store/venue. Yes, each bin is $13 and each shopping bag is $1.49. I don't have to dig for anything and as units are destroyed I put them back easily so no clean up after each game. This is not a transport system for plane travel, but I don't plan on taking a vacation with my minis.

So, I always pass on Battle foam and GW cases. They make transport too protective and they are really hard to use during the game.

So did anyone here get the Battle box? I'm hoping to get one to transport a 1500-2000 pt Woc army.

I do basically the same thing excepting that I get the plastic bins at my local dollar store. I use dishtowels from the same store to protect the models in the bins. All told, I think I spend about 10 USD to transport and store a ~1500 point army. I do own a Battlefoam Shield bag, but I picked that up at an auction for $15. I never would have spent the full price for it. I'd rather spend my money on more models.

the alternative being the card board box I use for them now?

Unless I spend a army and a leg on a battle foam case, they don't fit in the standard trays you get with kr, Feldherr, old go cases, etc.

If I cut up trays, I can't use the case for other armies anymore.

Having something out of the box good is nice.

If you have a few hours, make your own trays. Upholstery foam is cheap and better than any "gaming" foam on the market, available in any home improvement store, and you can buy foam-safe spray glue in the same place. Then all you need is a sharp knife and a plan!
