I'm so freaking excited for this guy! Paladins are my favourite thing in Menoth, so I guess this will be what makes me join the crazies. Weeee

Begin the speculation! What if he's the necessary paladin type to benefit from vilmon's ability, now you have to use magical attacks/magic to assassinate him! Eat it farrow.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Damnit Privateer Press, stop making me want to pick up new armies. That's an awesome model IMO

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Like that! Hopefully this will get my Menoth playing (or rather, not playing) mate interested again!

I can see stupid levels of ARM shenanigans on this guy!

Don't expect any "wow" in the mechanics department. PP already game out and said they don't plan on having any power releases for Protectorate this cycle. I'd expect something roughly in-line with Thyra power wise.

When did they ever say that? When have they ever commented on the power of releases..? That would be good marketing wouldn't it 'yeah your faction isn't actually getting any strong releases this book, enjoy Reckoning!'

It was at a recent con. One of the bigger Protectorate tourney players asked the PP guys "As a competitive player is there anything for me to get really excited about in Reckoning?". and he got a pretty flat out "No". He also got a lot of answers to other questions too, there was a big thread about it on the PP menoth forums a little while back.

I went to find it, and this is the quote:
Power Curve

Will had a very good way of describing power curve to me. And it came off the back of a comment I made about the last 2 books not being super exciting for protectorate.

Something Will explained to me is that theres a certain power curve for each faction. And releases sit on either side of the power curve. Those releases move the curve up or down depending on how good they are.

The past 2 books, will admitted were on the weaker side of the curve for us. But PP are happy with where protectorate are in terms of playability at the minute. I asked if I should be excited about the next book and his reaction was so so. What I took from that is theres stuff in the book we should be excited about, but we definitely shouldn't be betting on another Harby/bradigus/haley2 level power release.

So that's not what they said at all. Just that there isn't anything bonkers powerful in it, it seems.

How in the world is that any different from what I said? I said there wasn't going to be any "Wow" or "Power Release" that quote is basically saying the exact same thing. I said the tourney play asked if was getting anything to excite him and they said he wasn't. You can see where he says that in the quote above right here:
"I asked if I should be excited about the next book and his reaction was so so."

Protectorate isn't getting anything that's going to make a splash or shake things up because they're happy with where protectorate is right now.

Here is my prediction:
6 Focus
Roughly Kreoss 2 level offense.
Roughly Kreoss 3 level defense.
ARM Buff
Cute Defensive Trick
maybe Wall of Stone.

What he doesn't have:

High P+S /w Weapon master
31+ Combined ARM/DEF
Paladin-like stances or denial
Field Marshal
Rough Terrain Mitigation
Battlegroup-wide armor buffs.

You said he was told a straight no to whether he should be excited about the book. A so-so reaction is not a no. So-so could mean 'depends on your playstyle' or 'yeah it's good, but not Haley2 good' or even 'I was distracted by something so my answer didn't seem overly enthusiastic' or a whole host of things. Doesn't mean we can't expect anything tournament good for Menoth, which is what it seemed you were saying.

"So-so" reads as a pretty straight way of saying "No" to me in this context, but maybe that's me being cynical. I'd love to be wrong on this one at any rate, bring on the brick power house.

It does sound quite cynical haha. But maybe I'm too hopeful. I guess we'll see soon!

I'd be OK with a Thyra level caster. She's a fun one.

His fluff blurb makes it sound like he may be a 'Jack Caster.

You can't put out a Haley 2 every book otherwise you'd get the Games workshop powercreep.
