Hola!

I'd just like to draw attention to my new page

http://thedicebaglady.net/female-miniatures/

It's a bit of a personal project that came about by being hacked off at having to trawl the web for cool female miniatures that weren't overtly sexualised or ridiculous, and then having to spend more on postage than the models in some cases, buying one from here, one from there.

So basically I've been trawling the web, so you don't have to, and handpicking some of the coolest mini women out there so you can get it from one place. I'll start taking all these to shows (Starting with SALUTE), along with a growing display cabinet. It must already be the biggest place to exclusively get female models [from various manufacturers] and I want it to keep growing.

I'm currently working on categorising them into different pages by type (fantasy, historical etc) then even further (equipment) so it's easy to find what you're looking for, especially as it starts expanding even further.

So far I have Copplestone Castings, CP Models, Crooked Dice, Dark Sword, Dragon Bait Miniatures, Heresy, Mierce Miniatures, Otherworld Miniatures, Pulp Figures, Reaper and Wargames Factory.

Coming very soon are Fenris Games, Hasslefree, Westwind, Bombshell and Statuesque Miniatures.

The community has been really awesome and encouraging with this, and the project/page has been getting a tonne of coverage on various sites, including Beasts of War http://www.beastsofwar.com/the-dice-bag-lady/qa-time-dice-bag-lady/

If you want to see your models here, or have a suggestion, please let me know. I'm trying to avoid the super big companies purely because most places stock them, and I'd like it to be a little emporium of models you might not have seen before (or can't actually get at every LGS, so no Malifaux, Warhammer, Hordes, Raging Heroes etc)

Cheers
Annie

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Excellent resource. Oathsworn Miniatures do some nice female Halflings and Dwarfs in decent armour that might be of interest, and Red Box Games have a decent few options for Humans and Elves.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The web needs more places like this. Very much yes! [bounces]

How will it work out at wargaming shows where a lot of the companies (Hasslefree, Heresy, Crooked Dice, Westwind, etc) will already be attending though?

I don't know yet, I'll find out at Salute!

I think it will be fine, these minis get lost among large collections, so the same with stopping people from having to trawl online, they also won't have to trawl at shows. Want a cool female model without having to trawl through blisters? ta daaa!

Also a lot of the manufacturer's don't attend that many shows, and I do quite a lot. As far as I am aware, Hasslefree and Heresy only do Salute currently, and I've never seen Westwind anywhere other than Salute. The crux of my company is dice bags (although currently on hold as my hands have stopped working - RSI) and I sell other accessories and a load of SAGA (again, Gripping Beast do a tiny amount of shows) , so I'm not totally dependent on it, so I won't crash and burn and run away if it's not that great! But I have taken that into account and that's why I'm looking for quirky smaller companies that you may not have heard of, especially from overseas (such as Dragon Bait, I'm the first to stock from the UK)

Cheers!

My suggestion is definitely more non-UK companies because you're right, shipping for one figure just puts me off. I've ogled Dark Sword so so many times and gone "Nah." or felt I have to make a huge order.

http://www.eurekamin.com.au have some good plain-daft-without-being-sexualised ladies, including cheerleading or football playing nuns. I just feel everybody needs those in their life.

Yeah, thinking about it... Heresy and Hasslefree have pulled back a lot, I used to see them at several shows throughout the year but they only do Salute and the very odd spot around Derbyshire AFAIK. Westwind are only officially stocked by Figures in Comfort outside Salute other than Recon in Pudsey. Fenris do a lot of the Newark shows, not sure about around the country though. Crooked Dice are covered by Ainsty Castings who are at a lot of shows, but thinking about it that's the exception to the majority mentioned.
It's exceptionally rare these days to find all of them in one room outside of Salute. I'm just blurring all the past years into one big happy convention where you could do. Nostalgia fog.

Eureka has insane shipping fees, outright criminal really. I've seen plenty of stuff I'd love to order from them, but those fees!

Fighting 15 is their UK supplier, which presumably has much cheaper shipping fees to the rest of Europe than Eureka does.

It's you! Your posts on LAF on women miniatures were spot on! Thanks for that And supporting the venture with wallets is my favourite kind! (Seriously, the more people buy, the more ranges I can stock!)

The Otherworlds are some of my favourites. I was chatting to the chaps about my project and they were saying about how the whole focus of that range is "archetypal fantasy characters wearing practical clothing and armour and carrying realistic weapons and equipment. " so it's really positive that other people already have this idea. At the start I was worried it was just me and some female chums, but to find there are already people actively doing something about it (and male!) is super cool, and I want to give those guys some promotion too.

Exactly that! At Salute on the 24th, there's 4 planned, but delays with production so it might just be two, but they're looking super cool....one is called Lagertha

USA is exceedingly hard due to import tax and shipping, but I am getting some in. I would love some from Europe but I haven't seen any yet.

Even shipping with UK though, my standard is £3 first class, so say you just want one from Heresy and one from Otherworld, and maybe pop a new company one in there you haven't heard of.. you already save a load of shipping. Sometimes models are around £3-4 each, and the shipping doubles that, so shopping around can add up.

The first personal Reaper order I made in about 2011, I was young and bright eyed, knew nothing of import tax. Ordered a fair amount of things to make the shipping feel worthwhile, then got stung for £25 at the post office, and wanted to have a little cry.

That's basically still happening, but I'm prepared now

This is indeed great! Something that I have been needing for a long time without knowing it. I can´t even count the times I have found some senisible female mini in a range but just a few of them and have not been able to fill out the order or justify shipping! Now to consider if I should order immedialtley or wait for some more producers to come in.

Great work!

Yeah, I bought some nuns, some villains and some dogs, and I ended up having to drop the other half of my order because it added $20 to shipping.
Poor Australia, their shipping is some of the worst priced out there.

That's a load of crap. I order regularly from Victoria Lamb and she's got reasonable shipping fees.

edit.

I've bought Eureka from an ebay store (in the UK) before, they had a wide range if I recall (I've got the nuns as my bloodbowl team, they don't quite fit in with what I'm stocking though, need to be fairly strict or the "point" will be diluted)

I want the crazy cat lady!! I'll check them out. The bloodbowl team posted though isn't quite what I'm after with the whole "non sexualised, practically clothed" idea

Nick - Cheers! if it helps, the next wave will be the end of April (as I'm picking up a load of stock at Salute from the manufacturers to save postage!). It's £4 postage to the EU, no matter how many you buy [of the female miniatures]

Praise from Caesar! Tho seriously, glad it went over well. I was slightly concerned that I was just doing some counter-mansplaining; although those comics blogs like Escher Girls, Repair Her Armor, She Has No Head etc. already had my arguments all prepared. And while my problems are lesser, I'm fond of 'realistic', subtle, immersive fantasy (armour practicality, creature design etc.) and feel slightly insulted that I'm expected to just roll with aaall the daft, superficial, segregating, suspension-of-disbelief-breaking cheesecake minis out there, like those Greebo examples, that folk release and show off with a nudge and a wink. I like women, but I can scrape by without Page 3 in my toy soldier hobby, y'know?

Also, thanks to 'Answer' over at the LAF, and you, for pointing out these minis. The Otherworld female barbarian is excellent - if someone made a dozen like her or a plastic kit along those lines, I'd snap them up for ASoIaF wildlings. (I'm not a huge fan of most of Jeff Grace's sculpting on the Dark Sword official ASoIaF range, and they're priced even less appropriately for battle games than the Otherworld RPG characters... )

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.
