Hi fellow-rats!

I will battle against High Elves the coming weekend and probably Dark Elves aswell.

I am expecting a PG-unit with broken banner, bolt throwers, an eagle or two and something else flying around. As for the DE, I know he will use a lot of flankers and RXB, no monsters that I know of.

I am considering this line-up, but would be happy to receive any inputs.

Lord
Grey Seer - Earthing Rod, Talisman of Pres. (310p)

Heroes
Chieftain - BSB, Shield, Storm Banner (122p)
Warlock - Doomrocket (45p)
Warlock - Lv1, Condenser, Dispel scroll (110p)
Chieftain - AHW 2, Poison attacks, Tail Weap (70)

Core
Clanrats x24 - Shields, Muso, Banner, Poison Wind Mortar (185p)
Clanrats x30 - Shields, Muso, Banner, Warpfire Thrower (217p)
Slaves x30 - Shields, muso (77p)
Slaves x30 - Shields, muso (77p)

Rare
WLC (90p)
DOOMWHEEL (150p)

Special
Rat darts x 2 (46p)

//1499p if I am correct.

I'm thinking of putting BSB and GS in the smaller unit of clanrats and keep them behind everything else. The bigger unit of clanrats will include the second chieftan, that I hope will pack some punch. Warlock each in the block of slaves until hell breaks loose. Rat darts to interfere with flankers and chargers and DOOMWHEEL doing its thing on the flank. WLC sitting back hammering away, hopefully.

Good luck versus those damn Elves, may you poke their frail T3 bodies with furious abandon ... and 13th the Cheese Banner unit into more pokey Skaven to poke with

Speaking of pokes, two things on the list:

The Condenser and the Scroll are both arcane items, so you have to pick one. My money is on the Condenser, since it works all the time against everyone, and can help power up your Seer.

On the fighty chieftain, I'm not feeling it. He's T4 W2 with a 5+ armor save? This dude is toast as soon as he reaches combat, and his fight potential is only so-so - 4 WS5 S4 poisoned attaks? And the plip from the tail. Death Frenzy helps push him up a bit with 6 S4 poison ... but then I still think he'll just be ASF'd out by the Elves.

I'd take his 70 points + the dropped scroll and figure out something killy to help your rats out. 5x Gutter Runners w/ poison + slings (90) fits the bill nicely, with a few points left over for whatever.

OR what I would do myself is drop the WLC and get a second Doomwheel Great at doing many things - including killing single targets that the WLC is there to do - without being so vulnerable to anti-war machine units like eagles, etc. If you're tooling for HE, there isn't a lot your WLC is gunning for, while your Doomwheel wants to zzap or run over everything, while driving the Elf player crazy as they try to deal with it's T6 and 360 charge.

I agree with most of this except the scroll part....not taking a dispel scroll is a mistake. Not much else to say... Also I would drop the earthing rod and put on a power scroll. You will need to find 10 points somewhere though. Also, you should join TheUnderEmpire forums, it's the Skaven specific forums. You will find lots of endless help there

I'm not sure about the storm banner. It could make it hard for your shooty stuff to work. So maybe think about switching it for the armour of destiny, if I'm doing points right. Definitely stick with the scroll ant think about the power scroll, and for the DE think about the scroll of shielding.

Drop Earthing Rod and risk loosing my general?

Storm Banner wouldn't affect my shooty stuff, since they are magical and don't use BS to fire their stuff. At least that is how our group agreed it would work, so all good I guess.

I've spent the last year or more playing DoC. Obligatory Scroll is not Obligatory (but Suffering often is )

I guess I'm more comfortable with that than you it seems.

Also, the dispel scroll works everytime against everybody. When you get a low number of dispel dice and you need to block a spell that you don't have the dice for because you were stopping other spells.... You will want the scroll. It's a fail safe.

Not Dwarfs. Or Daemons of Khorne. Or magic light armies relying on IF to cast.

Now the Earthing Rod, that actually does work against everybody

Not really feeling this list. Although 1500 points can be a tough nut for us skaven players since its better to bring lots of toys!

I'd say drop that's tail weapon chieftain (he's a waste of points)
Drop either both of those weapon teams (which is what I would do) or keep the warpfire thrower
Use those points to get yourself a warlord (then you don't have to worry about loosing your greyseer general to miscast shenanigans)

Need some more bodies I think its not enough and they won't win against any elve units (which is what your going to use magic and the doomwheel for)

Drop the second Chieftain and the level 1 Warlock Engineer. Give the Dispel Scroll to the Seer (protecting against enemy magic is better than protecting against your own miscast).

Drop the Weapon Teams.

Upgrade one of the Clanrat blocks to Stormvermin. Give them the Stormbanner. Get your BSB a 4+ Ward.
The Stormbanner specifically states models that don't use BS to shoot only shoot on a 4+. That includes your stuff. But even so, it is absolutely worth it.

If you're really worried about the Banner of the World Dragon, an A-bomb will work wonders.
Otherwise, Rat-Darts and the Dreaded 13th and Slaves.

Drop the shieldshields on your Slaves. You want one block of 50.
