I have been considering getting into Flames of War for a while now and have brought a few book already: the V3 rulebook, Grey Wolf, Atlantik Wall and Road to Rome. After looking through all the books I decided to start playing a German infantry list (although I did consider playing German Armoured as well) and chose the Strumkompanie from Grey Wolf to build my army. Here it is:
Compulsory SturmKompanie HQ (p.53) - CinC SMG, 2iC SMG (45 pts)
- 2x Panzerschrek (50 pts)
- Warrior Feldwebel Dietrich Uthoff (50 pts)
Compulsory Sturm Platoon (p.53) - Command MG, 6x MG (180 pts)
- Upgrade Command SMG to Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)
Compulsory Sturm Platoon (p.53) - Command MG, 6x MG (180 pts)
- Upgrade Command SMG to Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)
Sturm Platoon (third platoon) (p.53) - Command MG, 6x MG (180 pts)
- Upgrade Command SMG to Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)
Sturm Heavy Platoon (p.54) - Command SMG, 2x MG42 HMG (70 pts)
Sturm Anti-tank Gun Platoon (p.54) - Command SMG, 2x 7.5cm PaK40 gun, 2x RSO (110 pts)
Sturm Machine-gun Platoon (p.55) - Command SMG, 2x MG42 HMG (70 pts)
Sturm Machine-gun Platoon (p.55) - Command SMG, 2x MG42 HMG (70 pts)
Sturm Heavy Anti-tank Gun Platoon (p.56) - Command SMG, 2x 7.5cm PaK40 gun (105 pts)
- RSO per gun (5 pts)
Tank-Hunter Platoon (p.153) - Command Jagdpanzer IV, 3x Jagdpanzer IV (380 pts)
Artillery Battery (p.156) - Command SMG, Staff, Observer Rifle, 4x 10.5cm leFH18/40 howitzer (215 pts)
- RSO, RSO per gun (5 pts)
1745 Points, 10 Platoons
2 of the Sturm platoons would camp on each of the objectives, with a PAK40 platoon each and support from the HQ as needed. In the attack, I would concentrate my entire army on a single objective. 2 of the machine gun platoons would be used as comabt attachments to the Sturm platoons, who would camp on objectives. The other platoon would be used in an ambush against a infantry army or attached to the third Sturm platoon. If I'd be facing an armoured list, the Jagpanzer IV's would be used in ambush instead. Uthoff would be used in ambush to take out a prize tank of the opponent (A King Tiger if I was facing another German army, for example) or supporting the Sturm platoons in an attacking scenario.
I'd like to have some advice on this list. Is the strategy described above good? Should I change anything?
Also, on an unrelated note, does anyone know of a game club where I could play FoW that is easily accesable by train from Witham, Essex?
