Hi !!

You probably want something different for your Defiler/Soulgrinder ; something like this ?

This year I've done a second one :

And this time I've done a tutorial with lot of pictures.
Don't hesitate to show us your own realisation

Let's go :

* First you need this

* Prepare all the stuff to check if you have all you need

* Let's go with the first difficult part : the tail

* If you put correctly this specific plate then you'll have a slight inclination

* Use the third arm without the claw

* Be carefull to sticking the tail well in line with the body

* The top plate should be parallel with the bottom one

* Adjust and paste

* Paste the second plate and insert the blade in the gap

* Second hard part : the front

* Cut to obtain an 90° angle with the cannon

* The green part is a bit larger than the red one, adjust the width until it fits perfectly

* The "head" (that's why I use a soulgrinder, you don't find this in the defiler box)

* Cut the right cable length

* Insert the cables under the plates and paste the pipes on each side

* Lower the front, it'll look more agressive

* Don't use glue now, just check if it fits correctly between the gap

* Finish the weapon

* Third and last difficult part

* Be sure the third leg fits between the two others before paste

* Ok it's time to add the third leg to each side (If you are sure, you can paste after painting)

* You can use green stuff to complete the third leg support

* At this step I suggest starting the paintjob before finishing the glue

* New stuff with his old bro'

PS : I don't speak English very well so I didn't wrote lot of comments

However if you have questions about this tutorial I can reply I'm often connected.

Amazing work. I'd be interested to see what is leftover from the v two kits.

Excellent tutorial! Exalted.

I appreciate the really clear pics you took of each step. That will be very helpful in the building process.

In addition to using this as a Defiler or Soul Grinder, this would also make a great substitute for the FW Brass Scorpion
super heavy walker.

Thanks,
Tom

This is amazing! Great tutorial!

Can you use double defiler kits rather than defiler + Soul grinder?

The daemon face plate used for the "head" is only available in the soulgrinder kit

WOW. Fantastic work and great painting.

Great tutorial. I have seen very similar conversions but, it's a little small for a Khorne Brass Scorpion for my tastes.

Yes it is basically a Defiler / Soulgrinder and by far not as big as the FW Scorpion.
But how fun could be an army with a FW scorpion and his little brothers !!

Blooooooood

Oh I agree it's a nice conversion and a great substitute or addition to any chaos army.

I think this is very similar to what GW did for the first round of Apoc. They just called it a brass scorpion. Then FW made the giant greater one.

I love the detailed tutorial though, great work!

Genius work. Great tutorial that covers the actual work which needs done.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Just wanted to echo that both the conversion and the tutorial are amazing. As soon as I have the money to spare on the necessary kits, I will be enthusiastically following in your footsteps. Thank you for your hard work!

This is amazing. Exalted and subbed. Thank you very much! You definitely captured the feel of the Brass Scorpion in that!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Do you have any scale-comparisons for the original Defiler?

Also, do you need either the Defiler or Soul Grinder, or do you have to have both?

Sure I have

You need both to have enough material (2 additionnal legs and a tail...) despite it costs more than a bloodthirster.

Interesting. I'll probably buy the kits and then ebay the remaining parts...

Do you have any pics of what parts were left over from both kits after assembly?

I got very lucky recently and managed to pick up a scorpion like this on eBay for £30 including postage. It's a lovely model.

If it's painted, 30£ is a very good deal

Do you have pictures ?

It's painted to an OK gaming standard, am planning on doing some detailing on it. But extremely happy for the price!

The paintjob is not very good (note that I'm not an amazing painter myself but I like to do something well finished) ;
but sure, for the price you paid, this scorpion is quite similar to the ones I did and with appropriates details that'll be very good on the table.

Very nice tutorial, too bad I just build a defiler kit I had from somewhere some months ago. As a Scorpion it would have been way cooler

Compared to all my stuff that is half finished at best, it looks OK! But yes, it does need some work to bring it up to a standard I'm happy with.

Will try to post some pictures once it's finished, but you might be waiting a while...
