Hey all, so I was doing some more prowling though the Dark Angel and Space Marine Codexes and found that, if you take a battle company, using the gladius or lions blade strike force, you can take 10 free Razerbacks using 6 squads of 5 tactical marines, 2 squads of 5 assault marines, 2 squads of 5 devastators and an HQ choice.... 10. Free. Razer backs. That only costs roughly 790pts as well, so you have plenty of room to spare in something like a 1500pts list for a good command squad and upgrades and such.

Thoughts and opinion? Anyone else found this out? Anyone else flipping tables?

it's 550pts free, you pay for any upgrades.

You pay a hefty tax.

Y'know: tactical, assault and devastator squads... they're pretty average.

It's great for maelstrom - you get a bazillion fairly resilient MSU obsec units. I'm certainly going to try it with my IF army (although, I have zero razorbacks, and I can't seem to find any bits shops that just sell the HB turret... gah).

Devastors have always been good in my view, tacs are pretty terrible, but grav cannons are nice.

Assault sqauds are... nice annoyance units. Leave em alone and they will kill something shooty, shoot them and you aren't shooting something that is shooty.
That said, you can take bikes in place of assault squads IIRC so just do that.

I don't know about SM, but DA can't take bikes instead. And even if you could, that's one less Razorback

SM can take the bikes. and yeah it's one less razorback, but it's also pretty cheap. and to take a razorback with assault marines you'd need to drop their jetpacks. which given you can't assault out of a razorback is a pretty crap way to deploy em.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Free points are generally frowned upon. Buttt tax, as others have said. 8 squads and 2 hq isn't exactly cheap...and for razorbacks? Is it worth it? Maybe for some, but I don't love rb's enough to buy/paint that many

880 points for two Demi companies leaves adequate room for upgrades. Assault marines in razorbacks just get used like tac marines armed with two flamers (or you put them in free drop pods). Given the average nature of troops compared to similarly or cheaper costed Necrons or Eldar, the free transports merely let the list compete, and even the, maelstrom plays a large part in that. IG need something similar. All the sexy bits of the marine codex (grav bikes, centurions, relics, flyers) are really better off in a CAD that cherry picks from the formations like Conclave or Storm Wing.

Yeah it's honestly not that good. Annoying, yes. In practice it becomes Marine Carnage pretty quick.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

So I have played using the Gladius Battle co, and it is very good. Vs Kill points, you have to table your opponent, but that is very possible with it. In other Objective missions it is ridiculously easy with so much objective secured units.

If you run the razorbacks, run them with assault cannons and either twin lascannons or las/plas. I also run 2x ironclads in free drop pods and looking at sternguard as my axillary or scouts. Also trying the command squad in a drop pod as that looks fun.

FYI I run heavy weapons (mm) in my tactical squads in razors. The amount of rerolls this formation gets through tactical doctrines is absurd!! 4 turns worth.... I also play Crimson Fist and bolter drill is very strong for this force.
