Now that I have my mojo back for the hobby, I've given myself the task of recording the constant war of the future from unusual angles, as if I was making a photographic journal. They will be based on the Imperium for the safety of the reporting staff. In the far future of the far future I may set up 'hidden cameras' to record alien races (and in rl collect thefigures)
Ideas I have, listed in order of material needed to make them;
Tanks transported to/away from battle
Soldiers relaxing on destroyed tank after battle
Medical tent
Officer and driver in staff car.
Deserters in hiding
Deserter being shot/eaten.
Others.
WIP photos to follow.

Some pictures, which I should have put in the OP, sorry. Must read rules before acting!
Further pics will be better and not affected by house move!
These are posing set ups, things may change.

I can't find the one in Imperial War Museam in Salford that had half a dozen men leaning agains the bottom of a tank in a ditch, drinking tea and being otherwise English.

Transporter primed. Now to add some armament, bits and pieces and then buy a big pot of regimental colour.

[iI've decided to concentrate on the Staff Car Diorama becausse there is more to do.
Sure, I like the transporter idea and it will get done, but apart from adding a weapon to the transporter and painting it in regimental colours, it's mostly a large basing task.
The Staff Car has some basing to do, plus I will be doing a wall of plasticard, stone steps, possible a window, bushes and possible reposing of figures (Commissar walking down stairs?
here's some materials that will be used.
The flock will be gravel, the kid's bracelet will provide the stone balls and the sticks will become steps.
Proof Concept from above. The blocks are obviously a place holder for the finished stairs. The line at the back will be wall of the HQ. Amount of damage to HQ to be decided.
Therre is a front view of this which I will put up as soon as they appear in the gallery. Automatically Appended Next Post:

I'm aware that the staff car scene is very static. I'll add someone coming down the steps and maybe a running messenger boy. May put in a surprise figure in the scene too.

Kataphron Conversion. Got plenty of heavy weapons left over from stuff, so Weapon shouldn't be a problem.
A 20 missile system that needs to be a Thud/Quad gun.
Back to the dioramas. Found this old camping underlay (and a ton of sprue) while tidying up. Will be easy to convert to stone steps. Automatically Appended Next Post:

Here I assemble some stairs... can I resist.. must. resist... I can't help myself.....Step by Step.
Steps Template
Steps cut out
Steps roughly assembled. Will be changing them around. I like how those naturally occuring lines on the second step resemble wear on real steps.
Mock up with fake wall. I like how that figure works. hell I l ike the whole thing and may make a mini diorama out of this.
The twisty piece of wood to the left on the floor will be one of the doorposts.
Iim thinking of putting the door way across a corner of the board to add some oomph to the composition.
Question: Would a robot-y messenger boy work in this to emphasise the scifi or should I leave it as non specific?

as for the steps... why not try to make the tiles/stones look smaller? as if true masonry work?

Now this is a fun project. The noncombat side of 40k is oft overlooked, and usually far darker and more horrifying than the actual battles. I tip my hat to you sir.

got you there...but smaller interlocking stone slabs would look more convincing... they need to be placed after all somehow...

I think he's saying that the single large slabs leave gaps and are therefore not as convincing? My advice for the stairs would be to take some PC Marine 15 minute epoxy (5 bucks at any hardware store, cheap effective putty for scenery) and coat the stairs. That would fill in the little gaps between the stairs, and you can etch the surface with a tile pattern after it's dried.

Oh, right. They aren't glued together yet, I have hidden stuff holding them up! I will use pva to connect them and then use my favourite 'hard as nails' type glue to close the gaps. Not sure about tiling. Seems like a lot of fiddly work, but I'll think on it.

and as boss fearless said, not just one big slap but just like tiles...in fact the way you cut the foam to make it stony and worn looking is the same way to make the seams....
