So, looking at our section of the forum I notice we are so much more slow than the 40k and AoS (Previously Fantasy, which is sadly gone). Come on guys! Let's prove that as a crowd we are growing! One thing I will not complain about now that Fantasy is gone, is that Warmachine and Hordes has been on the rise in my area, my home town, and the forts that I had been stationed at while I was in the army. With the continuous rise in GW prices, and more and more models needed in 40k, our community has been exploding, I put in ten new players to Warmachine and Hordes just last month (been a busy month teaching the system to my new players!). So lets get more active in our forum section!

I know that the Privateer Press forums are the place to go for Warmachine and Hordes, but I have been loyal to Dakka since it was a brick and mortar store in Manchester, New Hampshire before it shut it's doors. We are THE gaming forum, let's give the official forum a run for it's money guys! Sorry for the rant, but we need to kick itup a notch and prove that Dakka is the best!

-John

Dakka was a brick and mortar?

Yeah, no I usually go to the official PP forums for my warmahordes discussions.

Its a slow forum because PP has their own forums, which are quite excellent.

If Dakka had more discussions about WMH I would make some of my own here, but I have little incentive to create any when everyone who is anyone in WMH frequents the PP forums.

I try to help the newbies here when ever I see a new post.

I kinda wish this section was a little more active, but the PP forums are just really good, but Idunno, I like this part of Dakka, but it really is just not the place for it, I myself mostly come for the P&M section of the forum, but I like this little area too, especially since WMH has been picking up in my area, seriously, I'm teaching about 3 people how to play because I can't find the local press ganger, who knows, I might try and become one if it keeps up like this

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

you really cant compete with the PP forums unfortunately, although even then it can be a bit slow at times since its not a very big community. facebook groups are great though

Hah, Russ and John were the ones who taught me how to play Fantasy, and 40k. At the mill building location on Canal, I had the best games of Mordheim with our Sunday crew and got to play a lot of BF:G.

And yea, I know we will never be larger than the official forums, but this forum is a good place. I have an account on the official forums, but it has less than five posts because I prefer us that much more. There is no reason we can't make our section larger, assist new players, get more discussion going. We aren't the official forum, but there is no reason we can't get them to reference us, for BattleCollege to mention us a good place for newer players to go to.

With how many people already have an account on Dakka, why can't we get our section larger, bring our discussions here and get them to be seen by the larger community and help grow the game.

Oh, for those of you didn't know Dakka used to be a store. Go to the picture search and look up "history of Dakka" and you will see pictures of the old location, and the bigger location after they moved before shutting down after they sold the store. Juan did a good job with it when he could, than it got run into the ground after another gentleman moved the location and had to change the name to Battlefield: Manchester. I grew up in Dakka playing games. Still is the best store I have ever gone to.

Never knew dakka had a store, guess you learn something new everyday. I have a account on pp forum but never really check on it.

Also a more frequent poster at the PP forums. These forums tend to see streaks of activity, there will be a slew of new posts for a bit, then it will die down for a while.

As to the old Dakka, I miss the old army profiles from the original site. They were amazingly creative, and one of the things that motivated me back when I first got into 40k.

Hah, it is still fun to use the Way back Machine or whatever it is called and you can go check the old website a little bit. I forgot how much fun a lot of the stuff was on there.

But, let's bring it back home to our forum guys! We have a larger target audience than the official forums, we have all kinds of games from different companies represented here. Getting people to notice us and get exposure to our discussions and game is only going to help us. We should at least be able to get ourselves in the Recent and Popular Threads on the Forum Index!

Personally I prefer to stick to Dakka because it covers many systems. I have joined other forums but I don't use them. Until recently I had avoided Facebook however my LGS has now moved their forum to there so I have no alternative... understandable when you look at how things progress.

As for Dakka,

For me...

Problem:
Too much of the same questions, specially from new players. I'm more than happy to help but after a long day at work I don't want to log on to see the same old questions been asked over and over again. Sorry but I'm too tired (and probably too old ) for this day after day!

Answer?:
Maybe we could get some stickies for each faction to point the new guys in the right direction. I know its not 100% but Battle College is a great place for newbies to start. Also War Room is probably the best app around from any wargame company. Non of GW, Spartan, Hawk, Corvus Belli, Wyrd, or KMs have anything close so perhaps this needs some advertising?

If we could sort out the welcome party then I feel the more experienced of us could enjoy more indepth discussion as well as helping out our new additions!

P.s....... long live the Dragon Father!

I'll raise you one. I beat his Cygnar with my Cryx once. Great guy, joined Dakka before I knew he started it. Very surreal moment when I realized the connection.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Emporer's Champ- There already is a sticky on this board addressing beginers. It's the 2nd thread on the page.

The same thing with every other "I just started..." I stopped reading them just because everyone gets about the same answer and I'm not going to waste my time.

Well, it looks like our sticky needs a lot of updating. It has links that just went to editing because there isn't anything there, and there are a good chunk of models recently released that aren't there yet. Do you knows know if there would be any way to split that sticky? Make it a little more obvious. Have a Warmachine specific sticky and a Hordes specific one? Or is that just too much of a hassle

Yea, I can understand the lack of wanting to post in every single "Hey I just started, what do I need" thread. That does seem to be the one thing that this section gets flooded with. Hmm, I guess what do you guys think we can do to help remedy that?

Drop an email to malfred since he started the thread. IIRC he's also a moderator so he might be able to do what you suggest or at least send it to the proper people.

Hmm, I will have to give that a try this week. I am more than happy to help our section improve.

Or just start throwing a list of stuff here and I'll add it. Because I'd like to see these forums grow as well.

Every faction has a link now, and a brief outline of the faction, except Convergence. They still need an article made for them. The rest of them will just need some solid updating, let's get to it

If people can maybe, before creating pages etc, make sure the lists of units are up to date? For example Khador had nothing from the book where Butcher3 dropped, so I added everything from there to the current book. If we could do that for every faction then we can use this thread to make sure we don't create multiple pages for the same unit (e.g. 2 Butcher3 pages)

Okay motyak! I will start browsing through the faction outline for Khador and see what I can help with. I am a bit weaker on the other factions, so we should try and draft some people and start goung through them as well.

Also, is there any way to break the sticky into a few seperate pages? Have one that is just a how to get started, some basic rule concepts, with a quick faction overview(just a couple sentances for each Warmachine and Hordes faction) and than have a separate Warmachine and Hordes sticky where we can go more into depth for each faction with model and unit description, having a few tactica pages for each faction.

Of am I just trying to complicate things haha.

Beauty of PP Forums is the Rules Inquiry. Unlike Dakka, where homespun experts argue for days about a rules interpretation, PP has people on the forums issuing rulings frequently.

If you want to be a competitive player that you have to be on the forums over there just so you can follow the FAQ/Errata/Rules Clarification posts.

That said, I find the Facebook groups to be friendlier. PP Forums have their share of trolls just as Dakka does.

That has less to do with Pp Infernal and more to do with Pp rules. The Ymdc for warmahordes post rarely go past a handful of posts. This isn't 40k.
