Very distinct style, I like it on the troops, I do wonder what it will look like on some of their larger models though.

Thanks, and yea I'm a little worried about it for larger things, but I don't think it will be that bad. One thing I did notice on the smaller models is that I don't really paint them as a whole but rather by parts. So things like the thigh guard things tend to look very busy due to each segment having its own set of highlights as opposed to treating it as one large section. Larger areas tend to look better in my opinion, such as the helmet and shoulder pad since there's more room to work with. Probably doesn't hurt that all the larger things are also metallic in nature, and I find painting black to look metallic a lot more easier than painting it to look like cloth or leather.

Though on the other hand yellow can look really weird on especially large areas like tanks, so I'm not sure how I'll handle those when I get to them, but at least they're all curvy and stuff so I can play with some of the lighting which is nice.

Oh, and probably isn't the best thing in the world that I'm working with a total of seven paints basically, and as a result have to mix my own colours like brown as I simply don't have access to it otherwise.

I'll pluck you like a flower.

I remember having reservations about the scheme on larger models, however on the suit it looks ace, well done. Don't beat yourself up to much on the photo taking, it's taken me a long time to get to where I am now, and it's still not 100%

@Vineheart01: Thanks

@Knightly: Don't be so sure just yet, I still have no idea how this will look on a Riptide or Skyray, that's where the real test comes in. Then again I always viewed a Crisis Suit as a small model, until I painted on that is D:

Also, it's just when you think you did well on something more subtle and you can't communicate it in a photo, it feels real bad D:

@Evildrcheese: Kind of. I actually started with the concept of NMM gold Tau, but during the first model I wanted to shift more towards a NMM yellow, with a slight cell shaded look.

I'm actually still experimenting with what I want, so much so the Crisis Suit has a lot of different methods of painting in on it, in that style. I actually painted both sides differently, wanting to see which way I liked more. Which do you think is better, the left or right?

The one thing I'd change is the target lock or whatever on his shoulder, by painting the pips a none-black colour. I wanted to originally do one in the same gem effect as the eye, which you can't see in the photo, and the remainder black, but now I'm thinking about doing that and then painting the others in a less vibrant form of the gem effect as to make them look dormant.

@Warboss_Waaazag: Thanks

Either you used actual rocks on that base or you did fake rocks very well. I get comments on my cork rocks alot but theyre obviously fake basing material.

And yeah the rebasing was a pain. I had to file down the feet of my crisis suits because they ripped up grass/cork when i pulled them off their old bases lol.

Nope, I'm a total cheater, I got some rocks from my yard and painted over them, like I did with the sand.

I got lucky that I heard about the new bases around the same time I was ready to base the first one and just held off until I got conformation of the new base size. It's a real pain the rebase things :/.

Oh, and what do you think of the Fusion suit? I went for more extreme contrast in the colours but I don't really like how it turned out and at parts reverted to a more traditional dampened scheme. I like the black more in the higher contrast though, but it might also be because of the wide blocky nature of the Fusion Blasters.

I'll pluck you like a flower.

Fusion suit looks identical to the plasma one, minus the weapons obviously lol. Consistency in an army is a bigger thing than anything else to me. I'll field Farsight among my purple tau, but i wont field a wintery scheme mixed in with my purple scheme because it just looks odd - Farsight is the only exception because Farsight lol.

I use sand and cork on my bases, but i paint over them. I dont like the bright, deserty color of my sand since i dont base them in a desert, so i paint it brown before adding the flock over top. Cork is great for flat rocks or ruins but for the legit rock feel...not so much lol.

Yeah, rebasing is a pain. I've got three Crisis suits of my own that will need the bigger bases (fortunately their bases are not already finished), and I've been busy rebasing my DA space marines, so I feel your pain. Your suits look good btw!

I used the same colour scheme so it might only pop out if you're looking for it, but the way I did the suits was to do a full black base coat, and then a dark red coat for all the yellow parts. With the plasma suit I left almost no red showing, and with the melta suit the darker areas are basically the red alone. It's not a huge difference, but the plasma one looks like a much colder yellow as a whole, as it tends towards green in the dark areas, while the fusion is much more bright and warm, since the dark spots are red in nature.

I should really buy some cork, I like how it looks for slate rock, maybe some combination of the cork and regular rock will make it look more mountainous?

The 50mm bases feel really nice compared to the 40mm, and look on the bright side, the new missile turrets for Fire Warrior squads use that base size D:

On the topic of bases, do you cover the flier bases for small fliers or leave them clear? I think I'm tending towards covering and painting them D:

I totally agree, the black looks a little better in person than in the pictures, but I'm really not doing that much work on it, while the yellow is far more complex, so it's left with a very disjointed look.

Maybe if I do it in three sections instead of two, where I have yellow, black, and then silver-grey, which is kind of what I'm doing with all the bolts and that black reactor area on the back, but a lot of it gets covered up by accessories, so it doesn't show as much.

One thing I don't like is that in the photos and in person it's hard to see the gem eye socket thing as I think I did a really good job on it, but it just doesn't show up when looking at the model. I was thinking of extending it to the shoulder targetlock/EWO/etc thing, making one pip look like it was active and bright while the others were a dull version of that, but mostly didn't as a time constraint. What are your thoughts on that?

I'll pluck you like a flower.

If you mean things like drone bases, or even skimmer bases, I leave mine clear. I think it looks more like the model is just hovering over the table that way.

Yup, those things. I'm not sure which way to go with mine, I was going to go with clear but the GW shows them based like any other unit and it doesn't look bad at all, and it makes the army look more uniform.

Awesome to see people still find this at time.

I'm sad I haven't had much updates lately, but there was a month of me having a horrifically long commute, along with planning and executing a move. Though now i'm settled in and I'm working on models again, even though I switched from a half done (or more) Crisis Suit to a Riptide that I'm pretty sure is a re-cast at this point. Even then, I'm pretty happy with the model, the cleaning and modeling took ages, but right now painting it feels like a lot less of a burden to paint than I'd expect. I'm oddly happy with how it's turning out, but there's still a ton of work left on the model, so hopefully I'll get there sooner or later with it.

I'll pluck you like a flower.
