I'm currently weighing up buying the apocalypse rulebook. I'm really interested in playing some of the war zone campaign books and I assume that these require the main apoc book to use.

My question is, is there any point now that 7th allows super heavies and unbound anyway? I've never played apoc but I gather that was the main difference. Is there something more to it to justify dropping £45 on a book?

Also do I actually need it to play the warzone books? And do these books offer fully fleshed out narative campaigns, which is what I'm after.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My local GW store is having an Apoc event next weekend. I'm not playing in it, but I am really looking forward to seeing like 30,000 points of models on each side of the table. That's just gonna be epic!

The Apocalypse book has some of the formations. If you plan on using the formations then you might want to get it. I know the rules for my Revenants and Phantom are in there so thats partly why I have it (the sunstrike formation is pretty awesome too with its apocalyptic megablast).

If you are looking to run your own apocalypse game, I would say it is worth it. It contains a lot of nice ideas for organising and running a game and some nice inspiration for terrain. I know I use it a lot when planning apocalypse games.

I would not pay full price for it. There is some fun stuff in there, but as others have said, 7th edition has most of the things you need to play.

There's also plenty of ways to view the Apoc. rulebook in .pdf online before deciding to buy it or not. In my opinion the books are worth it just for the art and lore on those nice glossy pages. But no need throwing money into something you'll never use.

I bought the book because of the formations, information on superheavies, ideas for terrain, games, and fluff. It also sends the message that APOC sells which could encourge GW to make more awesome APOC money saving bundles.

Apoc book also has several of its own rulesets, like psychic choirs (big fancy psyker squads with really scary POTW effects), finest hours, unnatural disasters, and a lot of very juicy apoc-only formations for every race.

But, honestly, if you were to just play a really big 7th ed game between unbound armies, you'd be pretty damn close.

Pretty much this. I bought it because I love apoc games. They are my favorite way to play 40k, and the book provides a ton of extra rules, formations, and just good advice on setting up games. Its the same reason I have the original 4th ed apoc book and the 5th ed apoc reloaded.
