EDIT: Sorry about that, anybody who saw that a moment ago, It appeared to double post, but then when I edited it, it edited the OP!

Hello all, Lately I have been doing something I call a 'Month of Orks', in which I paint a whole 2000 point Orks army in one month. But I decided recently that Painting and modeling are my favorite parts of this hobby, and that I wanted my work in that regard to be as good as it can be. This wasn't possible in a month, so I stopped.

Anyways, I have been experimenting with the color scheme of my army; the Blue is what i have right now and the orange is what I'm considering switching to. Though I might follow Iain's suggestion and do both. Below them is Mek-lord Garzok; the Leader of my Orks Army. His conversion isn't done, so constructive criticism is most welcome!

This is the color scheme that I use now.

And this one I am considering using, what do you think?

Garzok here will have more armor on his shoulders, and the box on his back will be given a more scrapped-look.

I worked a bit on Garzok, I think he is about done, with some touching up to do.

Because we’re here,lad...

Great work there. That conversion looks fantastic.

Just a suggestion. Adding a coat of wash to your figures helps the detail 'pop'. I find that it can transform a figure from looking slightly flat.

Thanks, Bash!

And yes, I know, washes. The second picture I actually did put some on, IDK, maybe I forgot. The first picture is old, though.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I personally think they should remain blue, it just looks a bit better.

Blue is certainley more eye-catching. It'll go great for a mass of trukks and koptas.

Made my way over to the FLGS today, and bought all the paints I needed to follow GW's tutorial for painting Ork skin. I also followed a tutorial on Drybrushing, the results are below, and they are pretty good compared to my other work. I have to decide whether I want to go with the blue or orange scheme, but I'm torn; I'm partial to the orange, but it seems pretty unanimous that the blue is superior. Hm...

Blue definitely is more eye-catching. And the your dry-brushing is very effective. Simple things done well are the foundation to more complex techniques.

Nice start to the new P&M blog. That Ork Boy is looking good. Oh, and I vote for blue.

Update time! Below is what I have been doing the past few days, hobby-related, anyways. And yes, I know, they aren't blue. I don't know, I just as a preference liked the orange better, I suppose. So please don't throw full wine bottles at your screen and/or unsubscribe to my thread, as I will most likely keep existing models blue for now.

Anyways, for some reason, I couldn't get good pictures today. Maybe tomorrow I can after I do some touch ups.

I finished one! It came out pretty good, I'm a little disappointed with how touching up went, seems like what I did to fix it made it a bit worse, specifically the back of the right arm. But let me know what you think, constructive criticism is very welcome!

Updates have been a little thin lately, I know, I have been busy with other projects. One actually is hobby related, but it is currently in the planning phase. I'm gonna build a 28mm scale Ork spacecraft, which will be a pretty big project and will take me a good long time, but I'm excited about it none-the-less. Still working on the blueprints and such, but it will be modular and I will be able to take it apart, to see inside. Of course I will be posting pictures of my progress every step of the way.

Anyways, I finish another Boy. The small details are pretty good on this one, except for the highlights. You may notice I did the eyes on this one, though I did them black instead of red, so they don't stand out.

Can't wait to see some designs for the Ork ship you're going to build. I can only assume you are mad!

Boys are looking good too.

Hey guys, I'm back. It has been some time since I last posted here, that is because I have been tied up by other projects and interests. I've been working on planning out the Ship, though. No blueprints yet, but I'm working on those.

Anyways, recently I decided to start playing D&D. So, lacking cash, I converted one of my unfinished nobs (easily one of the most useful kits I've received) into a Half-Orc Barbarian, or maybe a ranger. I haven't ever played D&D before. Below is my unpainted character, Nox the Kin-slayer.

Good to have you back.

Cool conversion with the Ork Nob, it works really well as a 'fantasy' ork.

It's great to be back!

Here's a WiP shot of Nox I took today; tomorrow sometime I should have a picture of it finished.

Okay, Nox the Kinslayer is done. Now I'm not sure what to do, I'm bored of doing Boyz and I don't think I have the practice to do my Warboss... Either I'll do a brand new conversion or go full steam ahead on my Spacecraft, or maybe just some nobs.

Anyways:

Man, Has it really been almost a month? I've been doing things other than 40k this month, but that started to change following my birthday, on which I got a bunch of stuff to work towards my ideal army! I have been researching Ork tactics and I think I came up with a pretty good list, so I'm gonna work towards getting that up and running. The list; broken down into modeling terms, is below:

30 - 33 Cybork Boys (Slugga boys, might have 'Eavy Armor)
3 Meganobs
6 Warbikers
4 Trukks
2 Deffkoptas (Might use the ones I painted in my last blog)
6 Smasha Guns and a 12 Grot Crew
Big Mek on bike
Painboy on bike
Warboss with Mega-armor

I got a box of boys for my Birthday, and today got to work on my Cyborks:

I finished a couple Cyborks! I'm gonna make at least five to ten of them before I get to painting, though.

Woohoo, cyborks!

Are those toothpicks? Make sure you seal that wood with something before you paint, so they will take the paint better. I prefer DecoArt Americana Multi-purpose Sealer for paper/cardboard/wood/etc. A small amount of PVA glue might work.

I didn't think of doing that, thank you.

Switching gears momentarily, I just got a dump of eleven minis from Reaper. I'm going to use a silicone mold-making kit I got for my birthday to duplicate them, and make a few armies to play with my friends a game I'm inventing. Though, I'm having trouble figuring out how i'm gonna do it. It looks like reaper use a different method than I have to use.

Basically, the game is going to be a simplified version of 40k (since it's the only wargame I know) set in a fantasy universe me and my friends invented while LARPing. We have a particular story arc we just can't decide on, so I volunteered to make a game to resolve it fairly. Their are three armies; Orcs, Wood Elves, and Blood Elves.

Anyways, below are the masters I bought to base the armies off of, as well as some custom sculpts I did:
