So, what exactly would happen if, say, the healthy God-Emperor fell out of his ship while traveling through the Warp, and was stranded?

He is naked, could he breathe in the Warp, and can he make his own FTL drive/mind drive to escape?

Er, he's the Emperor of Man and the single most powerful psyker in history. Not only did he already use the warp to travel across the galaxy without any ship, he just rips a portal to wherever he wants to go.

Also that implies the Emperor even needs to breathe.

Oh, um, is that a common task for the Emperor alone? Or does he require millions of psykers to do it? I mean, if he was his own 100% safe spaceship, why did he use spaceships at all?

And why didn't everyone important just attach wires going from the Emperor to their ship?

I don't know, but I don't quite believe the Emperor can just portal anywhere he wanted, since then why didn't he just portal right into all of mankind's worst enemies, and just end them all?

Why did he bother with spaceships and great crusades, and the like when he can just portal himself in the Chaos Gods, then Gork and Mork, and then the Eye of Terror?

I haven't actually read any Warhammer books at all, so I'm obviously quite ignorant of the finer points in Warhammer.

For the illusion. The Emperor is a statesman and just traveling through the warp by himself doesn't bring along seventeen kilometers of pure dakka. And he was doing this centuries/millennia prior to the Great Crusade.

Wut.

Did the point of the Great Crusade fly over your head? If the Emperor coddles humanity it will never learn, and an empire cannot exist if a single man, no matter how powerful, is all that binds them. They have to bleed to cement the Imperium and ensure it will stand for ten millennia. And he did portal wherever he wanted, that was what he was doing prior to the unification wars and stealing power from the Chaos Gods. Coddling humanity also doesn't save them from Chaos, which is the Emperor's ultimate goal- to liberate humanity from all potential threats, especially the Warp.

Why did he bother with spaceships and great crusades, and the like when he can just portal himself in the Chaos Gods, then Gork and Mork, and then the Eye of Terror?

Wat. Exactly how much of 40k do you even know anything about?

Well, if all the high-end Space Marine divisions have attached cables or links from the Emperor to their starship, maybe Warp travel would be far, far safer for them. Hell, the Emperor could have just opened a portal for them, or they could ride on the Emperor when going on an important mission.

Also, the Emperor could have just eliminated enemies which actually pose a credible threat to mankind (Chaos Gods, Mork and Dork, Eye of Terror, etc.) and let mankind take care of lesser factions which don't pose an immediate threat to mankinds survival.

Why would the Emperor need "seventeen kilometers of pure dakka" when he can just use his own power? Surely he would have looked far more powerful and 'badass' riding naked through the Warp, blasting daemons from his supernova eye, rather than doing it from a armada of ships each time.

Then we finaly know if he is alive or just a puppeteered corps

If he is alive -> He will simply step back of find a way to come back.
If he is dead -> His dead corps will just be sucked into the warp and the puppeteers risk the possibility of being unmasked.

For those who love grey instead of white/black worlds.

If he is strong enough -> He will come back
If he is too weak -> He will be the prey of some daemon or lost forever.
