Hello all! Running a demo game for a buddy that has never played or seen anything 40k. First of the lists;

*Chaos Space Marines*

HQ:
Be'lakor

Elites:
3 * 5 Plague Marines - Plasma Gun - Rhino

Troops:
10 Cultists
5 Chaos Space Marines - MON

*Space Marines*

HQ:
Khan on Moondraken
Liberian ML2

Elites:
5 Command Squad - 4 gravs - Apothecary

Troops:
8 Bike Squad - 1 Grave - H.Bolter Attack Bike
9 Man Tac Squad - 1 Melta Gun - Drop Pod
10 Man Tac Aquad - 1 ML - 1 Grav Gun

We do have extra models and unique models to indicate HQ's.
Chaos has a ton of troops, a pred, mutilators , good amount of heavy weapons at least 4 of each type and bloodletters.
Space marines just have about 25 extra tac marines, 4 missle launchers, 6 more bikes, and a stormtalon.

Just want to have a even but diverse fight to show the differences between armies. We are going to play maelstrom of war missions to show the tactical nature of the game besides just a death match. Any help is appreciated and welcome.

What's left of Cadia

If it's your buddy's first game I would advise against bringing psykers. Let him learn the basics of the game before you bring in the more complicated things such as the psychic phase (especially w/belakor)

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

If this is your buddy's very first game, make it SUPER simple. When I worked at GW, we'd always do the demo as no more than 15 models per side and no psykers, no named characters, no transports, etc.

The goal is to teach the game mechanics and give a TASTE of what a bigger game would be like. If he likes the core mechanics, ask if he'd like to play a bigger game.

10 Tactical Marines vs. 10 Chaos Space Marines starting ~18 inches apart is a pretty good demo of how the game works.

You'd be best off with Tactical Squad vs. Chaos Marines squad just for demos. Maybe give the Chaos Marines a Mark to differentiate them a little and make up for the points and capability discrepancy.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

I defiantly will do just a basic 10 vs 10 game to get his feet wet and thank you all for the really fast responses. I was thinking past that were he has a good feel for the rules and is ready to play with the big toys. Does the army I posted look fair and even for both sides?

A fair fight would not include Belakor. He gets annoying for beginners

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.
