I'm posting this list not to ask input but to serve as a reference on strong synergy to those that search for it. This list is strong and some dubbed it as cheese, ideal for tournaments (and a bit fluffy). At least IMO.

Heroes: you have to keep things cheap, your heroes aren't really strong in combat (save Franz and gryphon mounted heroes) so focus them more in support.

1) General with pistol and sigmarite weapon, the cheapest loadout. This guy should never get in combat, instead he should be behind the linves of troops and spam each turn his special ability. 76ptd
2) Engineer with pistol. Keep him cheap, with just the chance of re-rolling even once the failed to hit rolls of a cannon this guy has made worth his 35 points. 35pts
3 Battlewizard. It should be always brought to give modicum of defence against the arcane to your armies. Use arcana shield on swordsman and give them marine level of armor. 66pts

Troops, were most your points will sink:

1) Mín unit of greatswords. they aren't that great in this edition. Use them as a cheap tax for the regiment and as a way to block enemies charging at your ranged forces. 80pts
2) Block of 30 archers. 330pts
3) Block of 30 handgunners. 330pts
4) Block of 36 swordsman with shields, whom will protect the other two blocks. 324pts

Warmachines:

1) two cannons. In all honesty this guys are the most reliable of the artillery pieces. The hellblaster is too prone to jamming and has too randomness involved and the mortar more often than not doesn't cut it. They aren't really worth their points, but the cannon is. 2

With this the key is placing the swordsman and greatswords in a line to cover the ranged troops. Alway in 6'' to keep the one to hit bonus. The engineer next to the cannons at the backfield. The general always in the middle giving his special abilities. It will wreck anything that charges at it.

What's left of Cadia

Seems like a strong list, I don't quite see how you'll lose friends with this, the only thing that might cause issues with your buddies is the handgunners, and that's just because of the potential they have to unleash loads of Dakka

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

What are the point values you are using?

And if there is space for another hero, I say double up on the Battle Wizard. If you cast 2 mystic shields on the swordsman they become 2+ save with rerollable 1s in combat.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Archers too are a threat. Think about it: with the detachment you get 2+ to hit and 3+ to wound, rerolling that one. You might scoff at the lack of rend but think of the potential of having to roll for 20 something wounds per turn. Even the most resilient units will feel the pain.

Swordsmen are a daunting force too, when coupled with magic shield. You're looking at a marine's armor save while re-rolling 1s and who will have (if put close to the greatswords and with the order and as long they have 20+ models, which won't be hard considering their resilience) will instahit and will need only a 3+ to wound. Your rolls will hardly err. Meaning your opponent will be looking at a lot of saves per round and eventually fail them by the load.

The cannons main issue is they only hid 1/2 the time, but with the engineer they only fail one out of four times and they only need a 2+ to wound. And with D6 wounds at -2 rend is something to shudder at.

And regarding the other question, it is the SDK system (used mostly by this guyshttp://scrollbuilder.com: ), it does fairly well to balance games. And no, you cannot fit in another battlemage at that level of points.
