Buttons Should Be Brass, Not Gold!
|
I thought I would keep all my Rogue Trader and Warhammer 2nd Edition Fantasy Oldhammer stuff in a neat new thread, and try to use it to keep the momentum going!
The aim is to collect armies compiled from old figures and to also use them in gaming, not just to hoard them as an obbsesive!
I stopped gaming with GW around 1989 pretty much... Since then I have been a mainly historical gamer, with the odd bit of fantasy and sci-fi being done. But late last year, for the 30th anniversary of when I first bought my copy of Warhammer, I dedcided to embark on the mad quest of buying back all the figures I had as a kid, and a few more that I missed. What originally started as a small project has now ballooned into something quite large. My aim is to use as many figures from 1982 to 1989 as is possible, but on occasion I have added in later models, but in all cases they should be out of production or limited in supply. In fact the only army that has later figures in it so far is my Empire army as I really like the Dogs of War figures so added a few units of them. But really 95% of all the model fit in my 1980s bracket, which for me, was the golden age of Citadel.
Last week I finally got a big delivery of old Rogue Tradder figures, I'm pretty much sorted with the figures I want, just five or six still elude me, but it's time to start painting. Anyway, after a good sort out, these are the various factions that make up my little RT project... With this half of the Oldhammer project, all figures are produced between 1985 and 1989. I have a few more figures due to arrive this week, some more Squats and a few Genestealer Hybrids, but still a few 'classics' to get...
Here is the overall group...
Rotgrim Rotgrub and his band of Ork Mercenaries...
Colonel Jakob Koch and the 'Last Survivors' of the Squat 101st Abhuman Infantry Regiment...
Inquisitor Mordroth and a detachment of Space Marines...
The Koranski Raiders, an Eldar Pirate warband...
Malgor Grosse and his band of Renegades...
Imperial Infantry platoon from the 12th Laguna Rifles...
The Rogue Trader and his entourage - though the Inquisitor model has been replaced with a more suitable one for the Rogue Trader and these fellows will double as all manner of things...
I have been doing the final building work on the Rogue Trader figures, starting with arming, literally, my Squats. I have been doing the tedious job of cutting down Adepts Mechanicus rifles I to Squat carbines. Three done, six to go and then tidy up with some green stuff...
Once all the h'armless figures are done, sand all the bases and then get undercoating...

So many memories! If I knew how to subscribe to a thread I certainly would subscribe to this one.
The use of modern plastic weapons is really effective, best of luck with your project.

Noooooooo!
These are before the infamous 'Red Period'! Thank god! And no hideous Goblin Green bases in Rogue Trader, though I'm not going with hex bases though!

Your Night Lords almost tempt me to paint my own batch of Renegades as Night Lords instead of Black Legion...
Out of interest - what 40k models are you missing? My own collection of 80s models is probably as large, though not as varied as yours, but I do have a fair few oddities tucked away, and if it something I could bear to part with, I'd love to help you out.
I might even have some fantasy models you need.

Fifty,
Many thanks for the offer and I will drop you a PM. There is a few bits that I'd like to add.
All of this is for gaming, I enjoy collecting the miniatures but for me its with a view to actually gaming with them, hopefully with more models than I ever could afford as a kid, and certainly a bit better painted than I could manage back then!

When I got back into GW after a gap from age 17 to 32, I went a bit mad getting all of my favourite things, like a good-condtiion Eldar Harlequin boxed set, a Chaos Toilet, a bunch of Thrud miniatures, LOADS of Harlequin jetbikes, loads of Chaos Champions. Being an adult was like I imagined winning the survey prize that they used to offer would be. Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't own an Empire Army, and I doubt I ever will, but one of my all-time favourite models is the guy with the huge head plumage, two to the left of the painted guy in that squad. I bought him as one of my first ever eBay purchases when I got back into gaming.
Ashamed to say I've still not painted him. As an excuse, I almost feel like painting the model would detract from the beauty of it in its unpainted form.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |
