With the holiday season coming up I decided to reinvigorate my interest in Warmachine with a whole new army. Given that I like Art Deco, easy paint schemes (Mostly this) and the idea of a faction of machinists Convergence seemed like a good fit. What should I get after the battlebox? Some basic infantrymen or some Warjacks?

Battlebox + another heavy kit (magnetize it and the one in the battlebox) + Corollary + Mitigator (or whichever light isn't in the battlebox) + Optifex directive worked well for me.

Gives you a real feel of what running a bunch of jacks efficiently is like. Generally, what infantry you get after that depends on what caster you want to play next.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Convergence is the faction that plays most jack heavy of all factions.

A good example of this is Syntherion, who can easily run with nearly all of his points in warjacks.

When they do run infantry, there is lots of recursion. They have a solo(Enigma Foundry) who collects the souls of convergence models and can use the souls to create new infantry models.

So I would get the Battlebox, a Corollary(every list will have this), a unit of Optifex Directive, and another walker heavy kit. After that, expand as you desire. There is really nothing bad in the faction.

Sweet. Just ordered my battlegroup box. Can't wait to try them out!

I hear the Corollary is really good. Why is that?

A lot will depend on caster and your pmaying style. But if you face a lot of hordes I'd get some infantry.

Ok, here is how Induction and the Corollary work.

Induction is a rule that all Vectors(Convergence Warjacks) have. It basically allows them to, once per turn when they spend a point of focus, to allocate a focus point to another vector within 6" of it. A vector may only induct 1 point of focus to another vector a turn, but there is no limit(aside from the normal allocation limit of 3) to how many focus a vector can have inducted to itself. Say I have 3 galvanizers, I have allocated each of them 1 point of focus. They are all within 6" of an Inverter. Each galvinizer spends its focus point to do something, and each inducts the focus point to the Inverter. The Inverter now has 3 points of focus. Alternately, i allocate 1 focus point to 1 galvinizer, who runs, then inducts it to another vector, who runs, then inducts to another vector, who runs... and so on and so forth. you can have all your jacks run on turn 1 for only 1 point of focus.

Now the Corollary. The Corollary has several special rules.

1) Focus Battery. Normally, a model loses any excess points of focus it has on it from a previous turn. But Focus battery means that the model retains its focus. So you could allocate the corollary 3 on turn 1 and it would keep those 3 to the next turn if it didn't spend any.

2) *action Power Transfer. The Corollary may spend any amount of Focus on itself to allocate that same amount of focus to another Vector within a distance of itself. The Corrolary has 3 focus, it spends 3 focus to give another vector 3 focus. Now the sweet thing is this also triggers the Induction rule, creating a 4th focus for free out of thin air. Which can be inducted to another vector within 6".

3) Accumulator. The Corollary gets allocated a free point of focus if it begins its activation near a friendly Warcaster.

So between Power Transfer and Accumulator, the Correlary can generate 2 free focus a turn without being allocated anything(It activates near its warcaster, then it spends that point of focus to Power Transfer, then it uses Induction to generate another point of focus. Which it could give to the same or a different vector.

Then you can use induction on your other vectors to induct focus back to the Corrolary, which it then holds on to for the next turn. Its crazy.

this may seem to be a bit tongue in cheek but, after you get the battlebox and the corollory, get another battle box, and another, and another, etc. Another great choice is to actually pick up the Axiom, an absolute bastard to play, especially with Syntherion's Reconstruct or Hotshot upkeeps on it.If you do end up getting infantry, try to get the attachment and the foundry as well with your initial purchase, as both make them even better.

Lastly, if you like shooting as much as I do, get the Iron Mother. Her spell list and feat are comical against the proper opponents.

As said, a Corollary is a must-have if you field Vectors.
If you want infantry, an Enigma Foundry is a must-have too.
Reductors are a great unit with their sprays.
Syntherion is Vector heavy. If you want to play a more well-rounded caster, take Lucant.
Anyway, a Conservator is useful as it has shield guard.
Moreover, one unit of Optifex Directives is mandatory as they can boost your Vectors.

is suppose that way, an absolute essential would be magnets - so you could magnetize the jack kits.

Definitely a good idea. And they seem to be easy to magnetize as well. If you can assemble those spindly little legs you've basically mastered all the skills necessary

Indeed, there are two chassis and for each chassis (SPD 4 or 5) you'll get all weapon options.
I did this for the hoovering Vectors.

Reciprocators. Those heavy infantry with a mechanic are there to stay. Run them up, put em in shield wall and they'll hold that spot for a good long while. I've never had the entire unit killed in a game.

I love Modulators for anti-infantry. Probably my favorite Convergence jack.

Reductors, (shooty light infantry) with the mechanic lady that let's you re-roll misses is a great combo to put behind the recips because they get no penelty for shooting through friendlies.
