I'm finally starting my army for BA Nationals at Adepticon 2016. After reading Krisztin Ungvry's amazing book Battle For Budapest: 100 Days In World War 2, I just knew I had to try modeling this crucial battle in miniature. As such, this force is meant to represent the odd assortment of units trapped inside the Budapest cauldron during the winter of 1944-45. Unfortunately, Warlord's Hungarian army list for Bolt Action is riddled with inaccuracies and missing units; so this build will show many units that aren't available under the generic Hungarian list. As such, for casual play, I will be utilizing the German Last Levy army list and switching back to the generic Hungarian army list for tournament play.

After much too much procrastination, I'm finally ready to paint my Hungarian infantry. I made a couple of last minute purchases to add to the army, notably Brigade Games WW1 Austrians for use as Hungarian Border Guards, Warlord Games Last Levy Volksturmm for use as University Assault Battalion, and Brigade Games Gebirgsjager of which one squad will do double duty as Hungarian Mountain Troops and the rest will be used for my planned Winter German army.

Finally finished with most of my Hungarians for Bolt Action Nationals next weekend. I went with the color guides from Flames of War Grey Wolf book as well as reenactor uniform photos for the Honved uniform. Please tell me what you think, thanks!

Finally got around to finishing up some new Hungarian minis in anticipation of the upcoming World at War tournament this Saturday. First up, is a 12-man squad of Hungarian Border Guards made from Brigade Games' WW1 Austrians. As well as a statue to revive the "Cult of the Hussar", Andras Hadik in Budapest

Though they've been totally neglictable in importance all along WW2 and even in the defence of Budapest which was actually sustained by german forces (if i remind correctly), I really find it awesome as a kinda homage to people who gave their lives in combat as every other did. So, I do support this army. Thus, you're a very good painter!

Would you know any good sources about the units your featuring in your army so that I might dig into them in depth? That'd be kind of you!

Two more Hungarian AFVs for this weekend's early war tournament World at War, Blitzkrieg Miniatures' Skoda T-38 (more colloquially known as the Panzer 38(t)) light tank and Warlord Games' Lancia 1ZM armored car. I tried some new techniques and changes to my old techniques on both these models and they are, I believe, the best I've done to date.

A lot of Hungarian units fought in the Battle of Budapest - some great fighters, other not so much. A lot of the fighting was carried by the SS and other German forces, simply because Hungary had lost so much fighting strength in the retreat from the border.

If you are interested in reading more, I highly recommend the following books:

Battle for Budapest - Kristztian Ungvary
Days of Battle - Nortbert Számvéber
A Magyar Kiralyi Honvedseg Kulfodi Gyartasu Pancelos Harcjarmuvei 1920-1945
Magyar Steel
Tanks of Hitler's Eastern Allies 1941-45

Looks great, but I think that armored car is Italian.

The Lancia 1ZM was an Italian-made armored car, used by both Italy and Austria-Hungarian Empire pre-WW2. The Hungarians used the leftover AH vehicles in their motorised brigades which took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia and anti-partisan duties thereafter. As both an Italian and Hungarian player, it's very appealing to me since I can use it in either army (the Italians used them in the Spanish Civil War, Africa, and the Balkans).

It's just the flag is wrong, see my flag for Hungarian it should be mirrored. We had also Tigers, but changed the marks on them. I would assume these were repainted too, but maybe not.

I painted these troops to represent lorried Hussar (mobile) infantry, using the Rubicon Opel Blitz I had painted up earlier this year for their transport. With the inclusion of the WW1-era Bergmann SMG and MG08/15, these could represent either very early (pre-1940) Hussars during the Slovakian invasion or those of late 1944-45 when pre-war stocks were raided to resupply troops during the Soviet invasion.
