From what i've read around the net, the conclave is considered fairly cheesy, but, what if I took the conclave for the sole purpose of have a Libby in each of my 5 man tact squads?

I only ask, because I'm modelling my Libbys as Tech Priests (If I could take a Techmarine Conclave, I would) who lead each squad into battle. I'm using my own fluff to say that the psyker powers are just the Libbys pushing the bionic implants to the maximum (á la Skitarii Imperatives).

Is it the formation bonus that makes them cheese, or getting 3-5 ML2 psykers on the battlefield cheaply that makes it so?

It is the fact that you can share powers and if they are close enough the harness role becomes easier. That is why people bitch. I have done the same thing as you using them as juiced Vet Sgts.

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

I use the Convclave with Sevrin Loth to get some good powers (as he can pick them)
The better casting is a bonus too as you almost never get perils (especially when you decide to use Terrors of the Warp and not Perils of the Warp)
Its a shame the you can only cast a maximum of 3 powers a turn tho (hopefully CSM will get a sorceror conclave with Ahriman allowing for 4 powers to be cast each turn)

Loth can't be in the formation. It only allows regular librarians and tiggy. There is almost no way to field FW units in SM formations.

I think it's the bonus to harnessing warp charges that makes it kinda cheesy. That and the fact that many people use it to take Tiggy and it's cheesy. The way you have it would be fine with me though, it seems cool and fluffy.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

This, only FW Chapter Tactics are currently allowed. They may update FW units in (at least characters) when they update Badab War.

Sure if you're being that guy

But the formations are clearly marked for certain types of guys, if they're the right rank they may as well be added in, hell we know that when FW update the Badab rules it'll happen anyway so why delay

Because we don't know that. And it's not about being 'that guy', it's about following the rules and not cherry picking the strongest individuals in the best Formations. Someone using that Formation for the specific reason of getting Invisibility on a 2+ (which might not even be the case in this instance) wouldn't sit well with me. I don't use my Astral Claws characters in a Gladius and do expect others to follow the rules to that extent. If they need a replacement Librarian because they are missing the model, I'll provide it. I have plenty of Librarians. CAD or Unbound Loth into the army.

And for another point, where does it stop? Using a named Librarian, using a special Chaplain/Captain/Chapter Master or Contemptor Dreadnought in a Gladius, using a Laser Destroyer Vindicator or Deimos Predator in the Armoured Spearhead. If you are good with Loth, you wouldn't stop these other examples right? That's playing very fast and loose with the rules and I wouldn't be comfortable with that.

Pretty sure he can
(This is the reply i got from FW, The question i asked was "Can Sevrin Loth be used in a Librarius Conclave?")

Hi .

Our rules guys will be working on an errata/faq to cover how the Forge World Space Marine characters and units interact with the new Codex: Space Marines. We can't tell you when this this will happen as we simply don't know at the moment but hopefully it shouldn't be too far away.

In the meantime we think it's perfectly acceptable to replace any of the characters mentioned in the Codex: Space Marines formations with any of the Badab War characters where appropriate. By this last point we mean Captains exchanged for Captains, Chaplains for Chaplains and Chapter Masters or Chapters Masters etc.

How would you rate my reply?

This.
That said, if you do want Loth in your cheddar strength formation then you can ask your opponents permission first.

If your opponents are cool with you scorping it up and having loth running in a conclave, that's cool. But please don't try to convince people that it is book-legal when it isn't.

In all honesty though the Conclave is already OP as hell and really does not need Loth added in to it.
